Is it reverse psychology or are you generally this negative??

Yes, a bit of reverse psychology, but also realism.

I think people are riding the crest of a wave, but the wave will not last forever. Honestly, we have a decent squad but we are more mid to lower league position than promotion material IMO !

Also, would be delighted with this as long as we are building for next season.

Having said that if we did a Norwich I would be delighted but I am not convinced.

Calm down dears. We haven't signed ether of these players yet and both their clubs say that neither player is for sale. In the meantime we have a great pairing of Lambert and Connolly with LB and Guly in reserve. Seven goals in two games doesn't suggest there is a problem in finding the net. A CB will do and a back up striker, but you can only have so many people standing on the bus after all the seats have been taken.

If we get both I can see it being a case of replacing Rickie and Conners when we get to the Prem and they will be out strike force. Love the fact we're getting youngster in that will will be a massive force to be reckoned with in 3+ years time when we're challenging for top 10 in the prem!

Think thats exactly why we may get both. However much it takes now to buy them it will no doubt save us money for when we are up in the Prem. As much as I like Rickie and Connolly there is no way that they will be good enough when we get to the Prem to fire us to the top 10 at least. Barney niether. To get to the top ten or higher we would need to spend 40-50 million at the absolute bare minimum.

Getting young players in now will allow them to progress as players but more importantly as a team so when we do hit the Prem which is looking increasigly like next season, the transition will be as smooth as possible without wholesale changes!!

Excellent policy....very excited for the next few years.....still desparate for a Centre-back though!!

Great plan - Young, hungry, talented British players down the spine of the team - buy them now, let them grow and improve with coaching and hopefully when we're in the prem we'll have a team of potential England internationals.

It makes so much sense, and may even reduce the need to spend stupid money to retain our status.

Yeah, I liked that post, too. It does makes sense, when you think about it.

Armitage Shanks is I believe a solicitor in the midlands so could well have relative contacts in that area.

Derry - hello again! I am a solicitor - in Leicester. Still going to happen from what ive heard today.

What exactly did you hear today?

Leicester thought they had him and we nipped in and outbid them and our offer had been accepted by Bristol City. The player was keen to join us. Personal terms have to be finalised.

Leicester are now pushing for Robbie Keane, so it seems as if their targets have indeed changed.

If a deal is indeed this advanced would we have asked that he doesn't play today? Soon find out I guess...

Aye just seen that. Still' date=' if he's that close to signing you'd expect him to be left out.[/quote']

Didn't make much difference with Rickie, he played for Rovers on the Saturday and signed for us on Monday - the deal was going through over the weekend.

Is that so. I was certain that the transfer had to be confirmed by the Football League by the close of business on the Friday, which is probably 5.00pm, and that they then open up again 9.00am on Monday morning. Am I wrong about that?

The negotiations between us and rovers went on over the weekend, Rickie knew about it and still played and scored for Rovers (great attitude from him tbf). But the deal couldn't be announced until Monday.

I probably misunderstood you there. Negotiations are going on all the time, with no respect for office hours. Whether the player will still play for his club on the Saturday probably has more to do with how close to a deal they are and what alternative players the club has got available. In the case of Rovers: None.

Gordon Simpson of the Daily Echo told me on Twitter that we haven't made a bid for Maynard and Burnley want a lot more than we are offering for Rodriguez.

Jez Butler, North East reporter, reckons, they want closer to to £10m but he will be worth twice that in 3 years! 7m could get him if we want him imo!

Posted
7m for a Champ striker is a lot! That nearly doubles our record fee, not sure we would go that high!

I think you weigh it up, £7m now may be a snip for a player of his ability in a few years time. He's tipped by many as a future England striker, so £7m now wouldn't seem to bad if his value rises to £15-20m over the coming years.

I think we're building a team for now and the premiership. The likes of Cork, Fox, Lallana, De Ridder and potentially Jay Rod are all potentially premiership quality IMO. Keep that lot together once promoted and we could end up staying up without needing to spend zillions.

...and we'd have a young British heart to the team. Seems a sensible way to go about it IMO.

To be fair he also said AOC wasn't at Arsenal having a medical when everyone else was saying he was (and were right) so he's not always correct.

Great thing is that we've got options: Maynard, Rodriguez, Ebanks-Blake, Sordell - any one of them would be great and I'm not sure we need a new striker that desperately anyway.

Gordon Simpson really doesn't seem to be in the know to the degree a journalist covering the club should be, if Monday is anything to go by, his "sources," are about as ITK as football-rumours.co.uk

I thought we already had a bid accepted?

Nope, we've never had a bid accepted. (not sure where that was said tbh?) Only enquiries at this stage.

Danny Ings coming in could see Burnley letting Jay Rodriguez go to Southampton for a fee in excess of £5m #Saintsfc

They're welcome to Ings, stroppy little git apparently.

I honestly can't see us getting both, we're playing our cards close to our chest here. If one doesn't happen, we have another nicely developed deal to fall back on.

Who is fourth_official? Seems a tad obsessed with saints no?

A tweeter who has a pretty good strike rate with rumours and transfers. Not always right but seems to know more than your average fan. He reckons we are gonna be spending pretty big over the next few weeks, hence he has backed us for the title!

Didn't take as gospel but post 212:

Apparently he's handed in a transfer request according to the Bristol City forums. Will be interesting to see if he plays tomorrow.

One poster on there is quite right though, pointing out it's all just conjecture.

Got to love the guy with the David James 'Pride of Bristol - Pride of England' signature. Simpleton.

I agree. Can't see us landing two 5M+ strikers

Bristol City were brave to reject the 5.2M from Leicester for Maynard. I'd imagine if Maynard tells them he won't be signing a contract and/or hands in a transfer request, then a similar bid would be accepted.

Posted

I think the intentions are clear, and if you ignore the money and just think 'swap AOC for a striker and a centre back of future prem quality' then I think that's good business.

I honestly think you'll see us spending up to 10m on those 2 positions in this window, so in fact we'll have a few million left for the jan window to reassess the situation.

He's like a wine gum,

tasty.

In the star today (i know!) there is a story saying we had a 4.5m bid turned down and a quote from the ops director Brendon Flood saying there is nothing that would tempt them to sale him!

You're talking about J-rod, right? Not maynard - Bristol C are in a position of weakness. They know that if they don't cash in on him sooner rather than later, he'll walk on a free.

Yeah, seems like some of the rumours going around are pretty close to reality as the rumour about fox and j-rod came out last week before fox signed so at least part was true. This quote seems to back up that we are still after J-rod too?

The rumours about maynard and j-rod refuse to die down so it could be assumed we are pushing quite hard for a signing and it depends which club or player who buckles first! Could also of course make Maynard realise that if he wants to move he needs to make the switch happen as we may sign another striker and lose interest?

Really exciting times!!!!
