As long as the manager genuinely wants him here and the chairman concurs then I'm pretty hopeful we'll sign him. We will find out soon enough. I would love to see us sign Maynard, but until its confirmed on the OS I will put this one down as very unlikely as it seems far to good to be true. Saint_Ash Posted 11 August, 2011 Share Posted 11 August, 2011 To be honest, if we spend 5m+ on a champ player with only 1 year left on his contract we're either very rich or very stupid. I hope it's the former. I bet 80% of the people jumping on the Maynard bandwagon had never heard of him until we were linked with him, in Nigel I trust though and if he wants Maynard and gets NC to spend big then I hope it pays off, I'm pretty clueless about him like most of the people on here about him, we can all look at stats but who's watched him, I bet most of the people getting excited here about him have seen nothing but figures on a website. To be fair with regards to the £5m, most Burnley fans think he's worth far more and he's only 22. Looks like a cracking prospect.

True, but one is injury prone and one could be facing a prison sentence. Guly can play out right so that leaves only Lambert as a dedicated forward. Admittredly, I'm stretching the truth quite a bit here but I would love nothing more than to see Jay-Rod and The Nicky Maynard Experience snapped up by Southampton. s0108787 Posted 12 August, 2011 Share Posted 12 August, 2011 Let's not forget that the ultimate plan is to have this club run sustainably. We should not go down the route the skates did and the route that West Ham may well end up taking. Frankly, until we were linked with him i had never heard of Maynard. I would prefer that we do shrewd good value business that is sustainable in the long term than throw money at players that are a minor improvement on what we have. It wouldn't suprise me if we didn't make any "massive" signings until the January window as the team we have can, and i believe will, hold its own. CanadaSaint Posted 12 August, 2011 Share Posted 12 August, 2011 I'm in two minds about Maynard. I haven't seen much of him but plenty of good minds on here rate him highly. My worry is that if he's to come here for the kind of fee being discussed, they have to negotiate a longer term contract with him. Here's where the Club's salary structure could be challenged, and that could create some resentments that could damage the great chemistry we seem to have in the dressing room. I guess that's going to happen sooner or later but it's still a rather worrying prospect.

Saint_Ash Posted 12 August, 2011 Share Posted 12 August, 2011 If we get both I can see it being a case of replacing Rickie and Conners when we get to the Prem and they will be out strike force. Love the fact we're getting youngster in that will will be a massive force to be reckoned with in 3+ years time when we're challenging for top 10 in the prem! revolution saint Posted 12 August, 2011 Share Posted 12 August, 2011 On the face of it signing both Rodriguez and Maynard would seem to be mental but Rodriguez can play out wide, or we could play a front three. The other thing is Lambert definitely wouldn't be a guaranteed starter and I suppose we all accept he is at the moment. Still can't see that we'll end up getting both though......
