Saints sign Danny Fox - OS

Welcome to the club Danny! Thanks for the nice words!

Now wih regards to the competition debate, Harding was quality on Saturday, Dickson was gash on Tuesday. I still rate Dickson, but at the moment I think Harding has to be first choice, pushed hard now by fox. It's up to whoever isn't in the starting 11 to prove that they should be.

I didn't think he was that good on Saturday. Kept giving the ball away in and around the penalty area, probably our weakest player on the day. Thankfully Leeds didn't switch Gradel and Snodgrass, Gradel would have destroyed Harding.

Fox appears to be not our fourth, but our fifth LB, counting Reeves. I have no personal opinion either way about him. I don't think I've ever seen him, but NA wouldn't do this without having a plan, which I think is something to do with Dickson, who originally was bought as competition for Harding, who saw him off quickly. I'm sure all the jigsaw pieces will be revealed in a couple of weeks. With No 5 and 19 left to be filled we are definitely looking for a CB and a striker as well.

Adkins is practically creaming himself in the latest video about Fox... Like a kid at christmas. Next present opening please!

Adkins also mentions that we would look to sign 'two, three, four players that could improve the team.' The number seems to be increasing every week!

Think he was refferring to what they said a few weeks ago, about signing that many players. Reckon we can only expect another one and maybe a couple more renewed contracts realistically..

No one can be negative about this signing, the only reason to be negative is if he's not better than what we currently have. On the face of it he could be a lot better than what we have at left back so therefore it's a great signing.

Nigel did say that the only players coming in will be ones that are better than what we have. We don't owe the weaker players a living, Harding and Dickson will have to work harder now.

Great stuff! Hopefully more to come.

I hope this isn't just signing a player for the sake of it, I thought the same when we signed Dickson last year and that turned out to be pretty pointless. I like the idea that he has a decent set piece delivery on him, we really lack anyone who can put a decent ball into the box and have done since probably Dodd/Le Tissier I guess.

Hopefully he turns out to be a marked improvement on Harding, who I think is very under-rated.

It will probably come down to wheather the new guy can play with Adam then. Say what you like about Harding but he and Adam play very well together two seasons of playing together means they read each others game pretty well. Dickson never seemed to get that going with Adam.

Maybe the plan to get a new defender was never about buying a CB but get a better left back? Could be the original idea was to use Jemal at LB rather than in the centre?

Fox does seem a step up from what we've already got whatever.

Which would be a big mistake IMO. We clearly need a cb.

As much as I like Harding and Dickson, I do feel both are prone to mistakes when defending. A number of goals conceded seem to come as a result of crosses especially from that side not being cut out. Also neither Harding or Dickson would cut it in the Premiership so if the intention is give promotion a real go this season then Fox seems a very good signing with his previous experience of playing at a higher level. PLayers we bought whilst in Div 1 were with the Championship in mind now it seems we are looking at players with the Premiership in mind.

The future looks bright, the future is red and white.

As someone who saw Fox play most of his Celtic games I would say this , He is a very good left back and I cant remember him ever letting anyone down , I can also remember thinking how strange it was when Celtic let him go as he seemed a vital part of the team at that time. My overiding question seems to be is he any better than Harding , I dont think he is, personally I dont think there is much between them so I view this as a strange signing, Dont get me wrong Danny Fox is a good player to have in the squad but I dont know how often he will play if Dan Harding is on form.

Adkins, believe it or not, has been looking for a LB since the close of last season. We tried for Aaron Cressell (Former tranmere, went to Ipswich I believe) but that didn't come off, so I'm really not surprised to see us sign one.

Harding has been terrific for us, but he doesn't have any real competition if I'm honest. I see Dicko as more of an Left Mid, that's where Adkins has played him alot of the time. Mills will be off before the close of the window, so Adkins felt that Harding needed some real competition - and boy has he got it now.

It's great that we can have 2 quality players for each position, it's just brilliant.

Probably Play Saturday if cleared in time then, as DH has only ever put in average performances and has not once ever stood out to me in any single display.

Spoke my Burnley mate and he is livid that Fox has been sold. They now have only one left back (Easton) who, incidently, he rates higher than Fox. The reason he's mad is that their Chairman said he wasn't selling anyone then has shipped out Eagles, Mears & now Fox. He said there will be mass protests if they sell Rodriquez as that will mean they only have Charlie Austin fit and available. I was very sympathetic :

Harding was one of my favourites last year, but I did not think he got forward very much V Leeds. May be the difference in class with this league and League 1. Early days though but NA has obviously wanted a proven Premiership player without doubt and this is why a versatile LB has been bought.

Wow, we have more LBs than the Cheats have players available for their bench.

Just spoke to a Celtic mate he said fox has a good left foot is good

At taking corners but ropey at defending only lasted six months at celtic

In Nigel we trust

Opinions! I asked my Celtic ST holder mate and he said he's quality and should do a very good job for us.

Welcome Danny... Bit of Leighton Baines about him; I look forward to seeing his set piece delivery, and bombing forward. Does beg the question of how much money we're prepared to spend on our known weak points in the squad (I.e. CB and CF) if we're spending a reputed £1.5-2m in a player that, whilst enhances our squad, we wouldn't have called a weak area.exciting times indeed!
