Lowest ever attendance SMS

I would expect it to be across the board of fixtures here. There are more important things to be worried about tonight then football, the safety of our families being number 1..... And if that means staying at home, we stay at home.

So you're expecting riots in Southampton? The main reason for the low attendance is money.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were attempted copycat attacks in any urban area. There has already been 'incidents' in Coventry that havn't escalated thankfully, Salford is now burning, West Bromwich is now burning..... hell, even Oxford experienced trouble.

There are generally low attendances in the lower rounds of this competition anyway, now there will be two reasons for people to not go.

Attendance of 6541, 348 from Torquay.

Blimey! We've gone from expecting the lowest attendance ever to getting what is surely one of the highest in the world ever. Do we know how many Saints fans there were in addition to the six and a half million from Torquay?

Fair play to them.

Makes it sound like entire cities are on fire, rather than small incidents. A news reporter compared Croydon with Dresden. Terrible fire though it was, that's a retarded comparison.

I'm sure there could be minor trouble anywhere. I'm all for people keeping families safe first and foremost, but whatever happened to not letting such actions stop you doing anything? Best response would surely be no fear. Instead we all seem to have gone a bit daily mail.

I think you'll find it was actually the store owner who made the comparison.

I'll get back to you when I find someone who found that funny.

A bit harsh, it made me smile.

Oh, look no further...

I chuckled as well tbh.

Incidentally, bournemouth are winning four nil, I bet they are wetting their geriatric knickers at the prospect of a second round game against us...our most bitter rivals after brighton.....

I don't think many people are particularly bothered about watching football tonight, and I expect tonight and tomorrow's attendances to reflect that. Plus it's the Carling Cup 1st Round against Torquay. C'mon, who gives a **** about that - REALLY!

I can't imagine not giving a **** about any game Saints played in. To me that makes no sense.

Oh well, those who couldn't be bothered missed some good football and a couple of excellent goals.

Pompey attendance 4464 must be happy with that...

The way Cotterill keeps on bleating about the size of his squad every bloody week on Solent, I wouldn't be surprised if sometime soon the tickets to get into Notarf Krap have the added line: Bring your boots you might get a game!!

That must have smarted for the bulk of them to watch their side go out to a team who flirted with a trip to the Blue Square Premiership for the bulk of last season.

I would imagine BHA is somewhat disappointed with the miserably low number of bites on his post above. Come on guys, let's have some more reaction, especially given the intellectual effort that he put into the quip in the first place.

To be fair he gave it his everything:rolleyes:

I doubt he'd have seen them anyway, he'll have been gazing at the telly coverage of the manchester riots.

Honest question: haven't they got a youth setup they could use to boost the squad in a situation like this? If so, then Cotterill's moaning is just ridiculous...

Not sure they have.

Several texts on Solent last night from Poopey fans were blaming Cotterill and saying he's manager, he should sign players !

Are they so thick that they dont realise the club still dont have a pot to **** in and cannot afford players. Its hardly Cotterill's fault.

Having said that I love to listen to him bleating on Solent most weeks on my way home from St Marys....you can almost hear the violins starting up in the background everytime he comes on, hilarious !

TBF there was rumours flying around yesterday of it all being about to kick off in Southampton. My kids are with my dad this week back home and im sure he was going to take them all last night and also my sis was going to take them into town during the day. She had a couple of texts to say about the rumours so stayed at home with them. Im pretty sure my dad would of not gone to the match with them just in case the rumours were true.

This game would of had low numbers anyway but the rumours would of defo made decissions for some.

For the first time that I can remember I chose not to go to a midweek evening game, and surprisingly I didn't miss it. The high ticket price, removal of concession and having to sit in the wings all combined to put me off going.

Make you mind up man - did you or did you not go

Glad to see they just about managed more for last nights home game than they brought to SMS for Their Cup Final L C 1 match last year!!!

Admittedly Daggers aren't the same attraction now that they don't have Lambo and Barney up front.

With the utmost respect to you and your family members, anyone who decided not to go to Southampton v Torquay becasue they were worried about riots is an absolute cretin, it's not f****g Hackney.

I'd have gone had the prices been a bit more realistic. £14 + the booking fee/ticket tax, whatever want to call it. Rather save it for the 2 up coming away games.

What ticket tax is that?

Paid when I got there and and it was £14 like it said on the tin. £14 to watch 4 saints goals, decent price to me.

I know to some it may seem trivial, but over the last few seasons, season ticket holders were unable to obtain their own seat, Saints for doing this for the early round(s), appear to be making these games seem less important. Then this comes accross to some that as the games are less imprtant why bother.

Add into the cost of £14 for a match against an unfashionable team, then what do they expect.

Perhaps the football league should make this first round part of the 'friendlies' set of games, ie. play them before the first games proper in the league. Then you might get more people paying to be able to see a competitive game before the season actually kicks off, not 3 days after you have probably seen a competitve game, to wet your appetite for football.
