Danish Saint Posted 8 August, 2011 Share Posted 8 August, 2011 Football is back.... Huge win over Leeds in our season opener... AOC getting sold for a reported £15 mill.... and all the transfer targets in the world to look at... ..and this board is coming back to life with good threads (not this one!) Actually ....the thing that is most satisfying to me is winning the opening game of the season, which used to be a regular event - in the last millenium. Also that it was Leeds on the receiving end, which is some comfort to those who can still feel the pain of the drubbing we got at Elland Road in 1972 ! Eaststander Posted 9 August, 2011 Share Posted 9 August, 2011 Glad I wasn't the only to be wishing for 7 on Saturday. Won't be happy until that one is avenged. It still hurts now, and it's nealy 30 years later.

bender Posted 10 August, 2011 Share Posted 10 August, 2011 What is great is that the Saints are back now well and truly ! A good strong team and with money in the bank for more. For me the Prem is only just around the corner. Who remembers the Charlton home game 2 and a half years ago and where we were then.
Dalek2003 Posted 10 August, 2011 Share Posted 10 August, 2011 We have made a good start, which we should all be grateful for.

For me the Prem is only just around the corner. Who remembers the Charlton home game 2 and a half years ago and where we were then. Couldn't agree more. That match was probably the worst experience I've ever had watching Saints. I've seen us lose at home and away; I've seen us get well and truly stuffed and lose narrowly and frustratingly; I've seen us lose to teams far better than us and I've seen us lose to teams we really should have beaten easily. I've seen us play appallingly and lose, I've seen us play well and still lose. At least in all those games our players looked as if they cared, as if it mattered to them. Even in the worst defeats there was always some level of spirit and fight. That Charlton game was something else altogether. We'd just gone into administration; there was some uncertainty about the points deduction (though in reality we were never going to get off without one, and nor should we have done); and we were playing the only team below us in the league. What really marked that game out was how limply and feebly we seemed to accept it all - watching that match I knew we'd be going down, deduction or no deduction. It was almost unbearable - dispiriting, depressing, demeaning even. And just look at us now. It's been one hell of a turnaround in just two and a half years. Long may it continue. Dellman Posted 10 August, 2011 Share Posted 10 August, 2011 I remember that Charlton match, before it began Lawrie McM came on the pitch and appealed for everyone to put their hand in their pocket to save the Club, we'd just paid to get in to see that dross, I wondered how much he put it, and he hadn't paid to get in, I went off him at that point

A friend had got me into a box. The booze was flowing, the Chicken Kiev was decent (if not award winning) and the football and the motivation was simply dire. Luckily the telly was on in the box and towards the end of the game everyone was watching it. So yes, this feeling we now have - bloody wonderful. Make the most of it, life comes around & goes around
