How much realistically would people be happy with us spending on Maynard? I'd be the first to admit I haven't seen to much of him, but what I have seen (various Youtube clips) he does look decent.

Could someone who has seen a lot of him play give a fair valuation?

Realistically you've got a player with one season left on his contract that at the moment only looks as if he's interesting other champ clubs and not prem ones. Given that Danny Graham went for 3.5m and Shane Long for 6m(which is well over the odds) then he really should only be going for about 3m. You could probably get Frazier Campbell or Ebanks-Blake for around 4m so financially it doesn't make sense to spend more on Maynard. That said he's a good player - just not worth what City are asking.

Is that official?

Deal hasn't been don yet but that's the figure doing the rounds. Long is a class act - the complete striker who has excelled at international level in recent months. Will be at least as good as Kevin Doyle, and arguably has more to his game.

If Maynard isn't going to be renewing his contract with City, then i think come Jan12 City will be needing to sell to get something for him rather than lose him for nothing. Hopefully, if we are interested we can use this point to help not pay over the odds for him. £3M is ok, i wouldn't pay anymore for someone when he will be even cheaper in Jan12. I know others might be interested then but we shouldn't just pay what they are asking if we think it's too much. Plenty of other forwards we could buy with that cash.

Shame Bristol City's game has been called off. If he had had a medical with us, I doubt whether he'd have played for them tonight. Hopefully irons were in the fire from the moment we were aware Oxo was off & someone will be joining soon. The rumours of 'massive' bid(s) on Friday, if true, would tend to support this theory.

Wishful thinking.
