EBS1980 Posted 8 August, 2011 Share Posted 8 August, 2011 So who's the next one off our academy conveyor belt to go to Arsenal then?

alpine_saint Posted 8 August, 2011 Share Posted 8 August, 2011 Must admit, the one irritation in all of this is that it perpetuates the impression we are Arsenal's feeder club.

pap Posted 8 August, 2011 Share Posted 8 August, 2011 (edited) I know people moan about Arsenal, but from the Rupes thread, it appears like they've treated us with respect. Someone in the Rupes thread mentioned that Theo could have just gone for tribunal money, while £12 million up-front for AOC is no insult. As long as they continue to be as 'respectful' when whipping out their wallets, they can have who they like (except Lallana). Saint_lambden Posted 8 August, 2011 Share Posted 8 August, 2011 Luke Shaw or Ward-Prowse I would have thought.

sammysaint Posted 8 August, 2011 Share Posted 8 August, 2011 Arsenal are going to downhill over the next 5 years, there fans more fickle then ours, they will call for wengers head after they finish 5th this season there lose cesc and wilkshire as well then finish 5th or 6th again and take a slow downhill fall from grace, i give it 5 years before the gap between us and Arsenal is not to far apart, if we keep are progress up and make it back in the prem. I may sound mad but Liverpool Chelsea Man Utd Man City and maybe Spurs are going into this season with a better squad then Arsenal, specially if they lose Cesc and Wiltshire or RVP gets injured, so there be the clubs nicking are youth players now. angelman Posted 8 August, 2011 Share Posted 8 August, 2011 Must admit, the one irritation in all of this is that it perpetuates the impression we are Arsenal's feeder club. The one irritation that I have is that people seem to think Wenger is this wonderful talent spotter, when it was clear that people at SFC were the ones to have spotted and developed the talent to the degree that every manager in the country knew about it, and half the fans as well. Wenger just got his chequebook out. Whether he will develop further is another matter entirely, and that at the moment is down to Wenger. Good luck to the lad. Hope he does end up like Franny Jeffers. Think that the deal is exceptionally good for us. Even if he does turn out to be the best player ever, we have still profited handsomely off the back of 34 L1 games. We are not (yet) at the lofty heights of Arsenal so it would be unrealistic to think that players want to stay with us because who we are. They want success and European football and Arsenal have more than we do.
S-Clarke Posted 8 August, 2011 Share Posted 8 August, 2011 If i were the club I'd get Ward-Prose and Luke Shaw signed up on long-term deals. They are subject of increasing interest from top level scouts - terrific talents, and the next 2 to come through.
Big_Bald_Si Posted 8 August, 2011 Share Posted 8 August, 2011 A potential £15 million, with £12 million of that guaranteed (from various press reports), is a CRACKING deal for us - a 17 year old lad that's never played above the 3rd tier of English football. Wasn't happy with the way he seemingly engineered the move, by coming out and specifically stating he wanted to leave, but I imagine he was heavily influenced to do so by his father, whose been quite vocal on the whole issue since January. I genuinely hope he goes on to fulfil that potential (we'll get full whack of the add ons), it'll be another testament to the best (imo) academy in Britain.
