LostBoys Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 I would suggest a technical knockout in favour of Mr Cortese. As regards Arsene I think the wheels are coming off (the bus) for him this season. If they lose Fabregas and Nasri and do not strengthen their defence they will end up mid table and the tin tack
Colinjb Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 Is funny though. No such threads when Lowe sold Walcott. I guess it all depends on your reputation before the event. Clouds judgement entirely. Or maybe we're all pro-Italian. It does work slightly better with the faux-mafia image rather than a tweed jacket and a spot of grouse hunting. Who would you feel more comfortable running things? Francis Urquart or Don Corleone?
aintforever Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 Lowe sells a player and he's a c*nt, Cortese does the same and he's a hero. Sums this forum up, bunch of d*cks.

alpine_saint Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 Lowe sells a player and he's a c*nt, Cortese does the same and he's a hero. Sums this forum up, bunch of d*cks. Utter b*ll*cks. NC was put in place by a football fan with a benevolent streak, on a specific mission. Lowe was a tosser only interested in the share price and the bottom line. Ergo, we have faith that NC is doing this in the mid-term interest of the club, whereas we knew Lowe did it to line his pocket.

No, Lowe is a c*nt full-stop ! Cortese is no hero but is doing a fairly good job so far don't you think ? also, i'm not a duck !
Barry the Badger Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 (edited) Lowe sells a player and he's a c*nt, Cortese does the same and he's a hero. Sums this forum up, bunch of d*cks. Oh god, this argument AGAIN. It's about context. When Lowe sold Walcott we had just been relegated, the club was in a mess on a downward spiral, and Walcott was our best hope of turning it around. Cortese has sold Chamberlain but we've just been promoted, the club is in a healthy state on the up, and we have a team that will cope without him. Of course people will react differently to these two ENTIRELY DIFFERENT situations. That said, I don't remember Lowe being particularly abused for selling players anyway, more for a series of total **** ups. I would suggest it says more about you than this forum that you can't see the difference between now and then. Edited 8 August, 2011 by Barry the Badger
Saint_Jim Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 and the fact Walcott is 5x better yet sold for a smaller fee

Lowe was a complete tosser, but the deal he got for Walcott and others (Richards, Davis) were also very good. Cortese has got a great deal for Chamberlain but to kiss his ass for flogging one of our best players is hypocritcal ****** considering the bile aimed at Lowe for doing exactly the same.

Nope, you simply dont get the climate that Lowe fostered at the club, clearly. The transfer fees for the likes of Walcott were reported as INCOME to make the club look like it was turning a profit (or at least breaking even) in order to hold up the share price. Lowe didnt give a sh*t about the team. Remember the radio station / catering / credit card / insurance services ? He saw the football as a single activity of the COMPANY, not the heart of the CLUB. When we were relegated from the PL, he simply looked to cut costs to the level we were at to keep the club/company profitable, there was never a plan to get back to the PL. Do you REALLY not see a difference ?? Wow.... Edited 8 August, 2011 by alpine_saint
S-Clarke Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 It might seem weird to say, but this shows how financially secure we are. We dictated exactly what we wanted, we're not kicked around by clubs and forced to accept...£2m + £3m, +£4m when he wins the world cup etc.... This is our deal, dictated to our terms, and I like that. Whatever people say - ''Well he's sold our best player like Lowe, he's just as bad'' - Well I'm sorry, he'd have to have been a total and utter mentalist to reject £15m for a 17 year old.

I'm not going to defend Lowe because he was a **** but to proclaim Cortese as some sort of hero for flogging a player if retarded. He got a good deal just like Lowe did, but we have lost another great player to Arsenal.

I think NC is being portrayed as a hero because he has stood up to a big club and made them pay through the nose, over-the-odds, baring their arse down a back alley.

We need to be established in the premiership to be able to retain those players, and until we are we need to make sure we get the most out of them and get the best deal possible if and when they are sold. We've done that.

Thedelldays Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 I totally agree, just like Lowe did. difference is...lowe was in charge after we got relegated and/or had to sell to stay afloat...bit different now though
S-Clarke Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 I think the difference will be demonstrated when we significantly re-invest the money in new players, which is imminent.
aintforever Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 difference is...lowe was in charge after we got relegated and/or had to sell to stay afloat...bit different now though Exactly, we are now in a position to drive a harder bargain and re-invest ALL the money.
Thedelldays Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 Exactly, we are now in a position to drive a harder bargain and re-invest ALL the money. which is good....on lowes watch, that was NEVER the case..for what ever reason
alpine_saint Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 difference is...lowe was in charge after we got relegated and/or had to sell to stay afloat...bit different now though For a few seconds after reading your post, I felt a little sympathy for Lowe, since he clearly could not deal against the transfer market with as strong a hand as Cortese.... ....then I remembered it was his arrogance that largely got us into that position in the first place....
rooney Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 Lowe would not pay £6M for Wee GS to buy Steed Malbranque and Louis Saha. Gordon left, we went down and eventually into the third division. That is the Legacy he left us.
DJ_TOAST Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 Wish people would stop going on about the dark lord, who gives a fck about Lowe.
alpine_saint Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 Wish people would stop going on about the dark lord, who gives a fck about Lowe. Well, some obviously were rubbing their hands at the prospect of drawing parallels between Lowe's activity and Cortese's....
Wycombe Saint Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 Apparently Mr Cortese is wanted by the police for robbery, but they are a bit busy in London at the moment!

RedFear Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 I loved NCs first sentance in the Markus tribute video on buying the club "it was not a time for people with weak nerves" the man is top class, and someone you definitely want with you rather then against
JackanorySFC Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 Awesome deal for a poor mans Wallcott in my opinion.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 (edited) I did say in a earlier AOC thread that i heard Nicola said to them "ALL UP FRONT OR FECK OFF" proved he's no push over. SaintRobbie Posted 9 August, 2011 Posted 9 August, 2011 and the fact Walcott is 5x better yet sold for a smaller fee I agree. AOC is certainly no Walcott…. are you reading this Arsenal fans? You been done even more than David Moyes buying James Beattie for Everton!! Gotta laugh.

Torrent Of Abuse Posted 9 August, 2011 Posted 9 August, 2011 Actually I remember Lowe getting applauded for the deal he forced on Spurs when they prised Deano off us. What was it? £8m? £10m? It was applauded because the team were doing well. It is when he sold players with us struggling that there was dissent. Which is pretty understandable really.
jjsaint Posted 9 August, 2011 Posted 9 August, 2011 Next programme cover is just a wad of cash apparently. Or a semi-naked NC rolling around in cash on a king-size bed (shudder)
sambosa75 Posted 9 August, 2011 Posted 9 August, 2011 WHich bright spark updated NC's Wikipedia page?!
trousers Posted 9 August, 2011 Posted 9 August, 2011 If Cortese keeps up this excellent chairmanship he'll start attracting the attention of the likes of AC Milan.....
