miserableoldgit Posted 11 June, 2011 Posted 11 June, 2011 The Sullivan Ballou letter from Ken Burns superlative American Civil War documentary. Very moving. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sa2hv8U8cWU&feature=related
Seany S Posted 13 June, 2011 Posted 13 June, 2011 The new concept album by Canadian punks F_ucked Up: David Comes To Life Plenty of riffage, but at 75+ minutes and every track featuring full on screaming, it becomes a bit much and the comparisons to Zen Arcade and The Shape Of Punk To Come are a bit generous.

miserableoldgit Posted 13 June, 2011 Posted 13 June, 2011 Love that series....Have you seen his other series The West ? Yes. I have both series on DVD. They are both superb example of documentary story telling. Didn`t he also do the "Story of Jazz" series?
Hamilton Saint Posted 14 June, 2011 Posted 14 June, 2011 Yes. I have both series on DVD. They are both superb example of documentary story telling. Didn`t he also do the "Story of Jazz" series? Yes. It's called simply Jazz. I enjoyed it immensely, but it got savaged by some jazz critics, who thought it too conservative in its approach. They objected to the excessive reliance on the views of Wynton Marsalis and the lack of attention to many modern sub-genres of jazz. And the last fifty years of jazz history was glossed over in the very last episode of the ten-part series.
badgerx16 Posted 15 June, 2011 Posted 15 June, 2011 Arch Enemy - "My Apocalypse", after that Therion - "Son of the Sun". Contrasting metal styles with female lead vocals.

ericb Posted 19 June, 2011 Posted 19 June, 2011 I've been listening to a lot of different stuff, the new[ish] Iron & Wine album has been able to satiate my folk side and is great. on the art-rock, indie, hip-hop crossover thing i've been rediscovering Why? too. I also found a really cool modern flamenco band recently called Canteca De Macao who actually give their stuff away via the internet under a copyleft licence. Oh and the brilliant Gang Gang Dance have just released their latest offering too (music like nothing else out there is the only way to describe it). [video=youtube;L_bkNR-zOn8]

dubai_phil Posted 4 July, 2011 Posted 4 July, 2011 (edited) Moby made one good record: 'Go'; the Woodtick mix being the best version. Everything else is shoyte. That said, hope you enjoy the gig. Nope, didn't enjoy it at all. We fecking LOVED it... What an awesome night out, couple of old farts dancing like Dads and we didn't care because EVERYONE was doing the same. Haven't got my hands in the air like that for years. The hits came and went but by the end everyone simply Raved to every damned song. His first Encore? We never saw THAT coming... The original Willy Dixon version of Led Zep's Whole Lotta Love. If he's heading your way pour a gallon of VodkaredBulls down your throat and then go dance. The English Chick singer Joy someone - awesome voice & range. Oh Lordy somewhat stunned by that, really did not see such a great gig coming Edited 5 July, 2011 by dubai_phil Willie Nelson didn't seem right as the start point for Led Zep!
