Hamilton Saint Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 Been listening this evening to Blackwater Side. It's a 2-CD compilation of some of the best of Bert Jansch from '65-'71.
Special K Posted 24 March, 2011 Posted 24 March, 2011 The Sound Stylistics - Play Deep Funk - it's getting me moving at work today.
Hamilton Saint Posted 26 March, 2011 Posted 26 March, 2011 I've been listening to Chuck Berry for the last couple of days. It's a best-of compilation of his Chess Records stuff from May 1955 - January 1965. It's called The Great Twenty-Eight. The booklet gives all the details about recording dates and recording personnel. Wonderful!
Colinjb Posted 28 March, 2011 Posted 28 March, 2011 (edited) Within Temptation - The Unforgiving. One of the singles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwji0k8ryQ0 Edited 28 March, 2011 by Colinjb

Hamilton Saint Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 Been listening to the most recent Richard Thompson album, Dream Attic. It's a live album - all-new material recorded with a band. I wasn't bowled over by it. Some good songs. But not a stand-out for him. But maybe I get so familiar with an artist, sometimes, that I get a bit jaded.

I think that he is a magnificent song writer going right back to his Fairport days, I have never been a great lover of his live performances. Lovely version of one of his songs by June Tabor (not the Emily Smith version - couldn`t find that! :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jINA96zwmk4 Found it! http://www.myspace.com/emilysmithband/music/songs/waltzings-for-dreamers-78323674 Her album "Traivellers Joy" is a thing of real beauty :- http://www.myspace.com/emilysmithband/music/songs/lord-donald-78323677 Beautiful! Have to disagree about his live performances. Whether solo acoustic, or full band performances, they're always great. I saw him do a solo acoustic show in Toronto a few years ago that was simply superb. His guitar-playing is just jaw-droppingly great! I'm a huge fan of June Tabor, too! She is equally superb doing versions of traditional folk material, as she is doing covers of contemporary stuff. One of my favorite albums of hers is A Quiet Eye - and it features two RT songs (Waltzing's For Dreamers and Pharoah). One of the UK's great song-interpreters.

Barney Trubble Posted 31 March, 2011 Posted 31 March, 2011 Adele - Someone like you It may not be my normal choice for listening but I recognize a truly wonderful voice and talent. She knows how to put feeling into her singing which is lost on some.

badgerx16 Posted 10 April, 2011 Posted 10 April, 2011 Just browsing YouTube and have come across Eluveitie - a touch of Death Metal with bagpipes, flute, fiddle, and hurdy gurdy. Weird, but strangely addictive.
SuperMikey Posted 11 April, 2011 Posted 11 April, 2011 http://hypem.com/#!/artist/Guillemots New Guillemots album - Walk The River. It's out on the 18th but you can listen to it there. I like it, it's not quite as poppy as their first 2 albums and they've changed their style slightly. Looking forward to seeing them play the album live soon.
miserableoldgit Posted 11 April, 2011 Posted 11 April, 2011 Paper Airplane - Alison Krauss and Union Station and Odditties by Kate and Anna McGarrigle

Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 12 April, 2011 Posted 12 April, 2011 Just listened to the new Arctic Monkeys record - "Don't sit down because I've moved your chair". Slightly mediocre on first listen if I'm being honest.
