Perfume Genius - Learning, so frustrated I couldn't get hold of tickets to see him at Hoxton Hall. This record is truly incredible.

Why are you listening to a best-of?

Don't be such a music snob, Ludwig. Listening to a 'Best of' is a great way for manji to get into these bands he hasn't heard of before. manji, I would recommend 'Doppelganger' and 'Cuckoo' once you get a feel for Curve's more commercial stuff.

I agree I hate musical snobs.

Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot... The Son of Chico Dusty - Very good.

Chima Anya - New Day - Album of the year so far for me.

Bombay Bicycle Club - Flaws - Oh, how appropriate an album title. Easily the worst album I've heard this year. Fortunately given to me from free promo, I feel for those who spent money on it.

One of those bands who I used to occasionally buy singles and nothing else from were The Move. Truth is, I've always had a soft spot for anything Roy Wood was involved in, because he was a pop record writing master, and because he was a rocking bugger too. He's probably most famous, to many people, for Wizzard, but his bands were so much more than that. They were laced with upbeat, progressive pop numbers, with a hint of humour, and as catchy as hell. From The Move, I love Fire Brigade, Blackberry Way, but my favourite is Brontosaurus. Have a go:

Haha, I was just arguing with a mate of mine who was saying how great it was, I didn't agree:D

Whatever happened to Roy Wood, I loved the Move and Wizzard :) ELO did some very good stuff too.

Electric Light Orchestra..? Pah..! ;)

No, they were OK. They certainly were a part of going to The Cowherds pub. It was Art For Art's Sake [10CC] and Living Thing, as I remember, that was forever on that bloody jukebox. Of course, I never selected those tracks, having an appreciation of a rather more heightened expression of musical flavours, by then. :D

I can't see the connection, dude.

Does it have a connection..?

Why should there be a connection ? I was just pointing out I surely knew that 10cc recorded Art for Art's Sake but I was listening to Mott.

My excuse to say Dude. After all, you mentioned Mott The Hoople.

If I said Dude, and meant it, I'd need a sickbag to throw up in.

Yuk, another American English slang term, just avoid dudette otherwise I'll throw up !

There's a bit of echo on the original track. Try playing them ever-so-slightly out of sync and get a concert-hall effect.

I was already listening to a live performance TBH which had loads of echoes !!

Thus endeth old farts hour.

Yeah, well said.

I'm really into this band that hasn't actually been formed yet. They're going to be the best thing ever, but I will cease liking them after their first album because they will sell out to 'the man'.

I used to be into them just before you thought of them, but I've moved onto the next band now.

I'd already been into the next band of which you speak, but moved on before you'd thought of the band I'd first thought of before I had.

Great single. Stumbled over it again, while looking for something from the Isley Brothers

Sly and the Family Stone - Family Affair

If anyone has a funkier voice than Sly Stewart then I've yet to hear it.

Sly and the Family Stone: excellent band.

Mainly remembered for 'It's a Family Affair' on the 'There's a Riot Goin On' album and 'Everyday People' from 'Stand!'.

Often overlooked is their debut album from 1967 (such a good year for music) 'A Whole New Thing'; this is my personal favourite.

It's from that transitionary period when soul was starting to morph into funkier more experimental areas (mirroring the change in rock and pop) as artists began trying psychedelics!

I agree with your comment about Sly's voice, incredible.

I would have to say JB or Eddie Bo are just as funky, and what about George Clinton????

Is there a funkier band that Funkadelic / Parliament?

Nope.

We're the best thing since sliced bread.

Having said that, bread was well past its' sell by date when it became sliced anyway...
