the stain Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 The Alps - III Never heard of these guys before but bought this one on a whim. It's pulling my krautrock knob. Blimey. Just tried researching them on the interweb. Turns out there's another, absolutely terrible Steve Lamacq London band with the same name. It's not them I'm listening to...
Crouchie's Lawyer Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 Is it any good? I'll wait until I get paid to pick it up. The first two are classics and definite firm-favourites of mine but his last one was a bit mediocre. I hope he is back on track now. That said, I have liked what I've heard from the new effort. Yeah its not bad, only really one or two mediocre songs. Its definitely a grower too. You should get Napster (its legal now) and grab a copy of a program called tunebite. Napster costs me £9.99 p/m and Tunebite was a one off £10-£15 (im sure it can be found for free on tinterweb). Napster songs can be played on your computer till your hearts content, however they are protected files which stops you burning them to CD's or transferring to MP3 players. This is where Tunebite comes in. When you play the Napster track through tunebite, it makes a perfect copy of said track which is not protected which allows you to burn it onto a CD. Hey presto, all the songs you can be bothered to legally download for £9.99 p/m! That is, if you dont mind not having a CD case!
Rory Posted 23 September, 2008 Posted 23 September, 2008 I have my ways of obtaining records but I'll probably buy this album. I have the other three so I may as well keep the set going. A Grand Don't Come For Free is one of the very few albums that creates such strong nostalgic emotions for me. Everything about 2004 in my life was the dog's b*llocks and this was one of my most listened to albums. Infact, I try and not listen to it as the emotions it connotes for me are far too strong for me at the moment.:-#:(:(

I went to Amsterdam with teh Mrs a year ago, on a sodding long coach trip so listened to all 3 albums back to back. Very good.

EastleighSoulBoy Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 Beautiful lyrics delivered very hauntingly. Now this type of song is not normally my thing, but I like it. I'm listening to the Verve Unmixed and Verve Remixed albums. Jazzy stuff as was and then also with a different take. Not all good but still listenable. Listen to this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTcOP2CZmpM Moves me every time. I chose this for my mate's funeral service. Tears falling now.
Ad Rock Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 Enjoying some Black Stone Cherry at the moment, new album on it's way to me very soon...
Pancake Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 The (International) Noise Conspiracy - Armed Love The Hives - Veni Didi Vicious
the stain Posted 24 September, 2008 Posted 24 September, 2008 Big Star - Third/Sister Lovers At least I will when I get home. Melancholy, bordering on desolate. I'm going to get dosed up on skag, hum tunelessly and wave one arm in time, then soil my bed with tears and urine.
Deppo Posted 25 September, 2008 Posted 25 September, 2008 Dinosaur Jr. - Ear-bleeding Country, the best of... More good taste exhibited by Pancake. This is becoming annoying...
Pancake Posted 25 September, 2008 Posted 25 September, 2008 More good taste exhibited by Pancake. This is becoming annoying... Dont worry, I started today off with Genesis - The Invisible Touch. Swiftly followed by The Strokes - Is This It? and Machine Head - Burn My Eyes
Pancake Posted 25 September, 2008 Posted 25 September, 2008 Shadows Fall - Threads Of Life Testament - The Formation of Damnation
mdearlove Posted 25 September, 2008 Posted 25 September, 2008 (edited) Underrated by whom? Radio 1 are always masturbating over their work. Elbow have done some very funny covers on the Live Lounge - seem like a great bunch of lads with a sense of humour. Edited 25 September, 2008 by mdearlove
Julian H. Cope Posted 26 September, 2008 Author Posted 26 September, 2008 Imelda May - Love Tattoo. You f***ing slags.
Pancake Posted 26 September, 2008 Posted 26 September, 2008 sitting on the south bank waiting for a meeting listening to The Kings Of Leon - Youth And Young Manhood. Amazing album.

LVSaint Posted 28 September, 2008 Posted 28 September, 2008 Just found a download of Just a Souvenir from Squarepusher. The usual funky jazzy guitars, mad beats and acid squelching! Some lovely tunes here although nothing on first listen to really rival his older stuff.

Pancake Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Paradise Lost - Draconian Times. Completely by fluke. I was "wiki"ing Nick Holmes (the ex-Saint) and got redirected to Nick Holmes the PL singer. Put the thought in my mind.
Julian H. Cope Posted 29 September, 2008 Author Posted 29 September, 2008 White Denim - Workout Holiday. So good it's scary.
Pancake Posted 30 September, 2008 Posted 30 September, 2008 Anthrax - The Greater Of Two Evils. Older material with previous singers Neil Turbin and Joey Belladonna re-recorded by the "Volume 8" line up with singer John Bush. Very good, I really prefer these versions to the originals. I never really liked Belladonnas vocals and Bush brings more of an edge to the songs.
Deppo Posted 30 September, 2008 Posted 30 September, 2008 One has bought the new Aliens elpee, but one has yet to listen to it. More anon.
badgerx16 Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 The Russian State Symphony Orchestra playing Carmina Burana.
Pancake Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 Suede - Suede "Stay Together" still gives me the chills after all these years.
Deppo Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 One has bought the new Aliens elpee, but one has yet to listen to it. More anon. It's genius.
Deppo Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 Suede - Suede "Stay Together" still gives me the chills after all these years. I preferred The London Suede.
Kadeem Hardison Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 Suede - Suede "Stay Together" still gives me the chills after all these years. I am also listening to this today. Stay Together isn't on Suede though. :~
Deppo Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 I am also listening to this today. Stay Together isn't on Suede though. :~ I was going to point that out, but Pancake would only get eggy.
the stain Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 I am also listening to this today. Stay Together isn't on Suede though. :~ I was listening to 'The Living Dead' earlier. Years ago there was a really good piano version of that given away on the front of a magazine, but I lost my copy. If anyone can find it on-line anywhere I'll have a homosexual experience with them.
the stain Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 Was it Vox magazine? My spies tell me it was Select. Too long ago for me to remember now though. But Vox, ah Vox... They once did a special 'banned record covers' edition. Kept me in pre-internet w4nk fodder for a month. Simpler times...
Pancake Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 I am also listening to this today. Stay Together isn't on Suede though. :~ Correct, but seeing as it was a non album track, i whacked it on the end of the best fit album on my dap.
Calvin Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 The Verve- Love Is Noise I have really started to get in to this song, although at first I was ****ed off at the stupid demo noises, but eventually I didn't mind it and started to really like the song.
badgerx16 Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 Earlier this evening found 'Don't Fear the Reaper' on YouTube, took me back to my school years.
