chrisobee Posted 7 May, 2010 Posted 7 May, 2010 Monty Python - LIVE at Drury Lane. Are they actually trying to sing !?
St Landrew Posted 7 May, 2010 Posted 7 May, 2010 Are they actually trying to sing !? Hello mate... No, not at all. Just a series of their famous sketches, played out on the Drury Lane stage. I'm now on to Jethro Tull - Aqualung, Side 2 only [vinyl] as the mood has grabbed me to listen to it.

Sounds good to me Andy, it seems a tour is planned, Spamalot http://montypythonsspamalot.com/index.php Wish I still had my old vinyl collection, lots of stuff I can't get on CD/DVD
St Landrew Posted 8 May, 2010 Posted 8 May, 2010 Sounds good to me Andy, it seems a tour is planned, Spamalot http://montypythonsspamalot.com/index.php Wish I still had my old vinyl collection, lots of stuff I can't get on CD/DVD Aha, I never succumbed to that old scam. I still have getting on for 500 vinyl albums, about 30 bought CDs, one DiVX/DVD/CD player and one portable of the same, but FOUR analogue TURNTABLES. One is a Linn Sondek, another is a Thorens TD160 MkII, and another a Pioneer PL12D in the cupboard for the day when someone desparately wants to play some vinyl, and the last one is a Goldring Lenco GL75 that I saw at a tip, that had been dropped into a skip. The owner obviously thought it was sh!te, but was entirely mistaken. The plinth and lid were broken, but I rescued it anyway. I paid 2 quid for it and gave it some TLC which cost me practically nothing, but my old expertise in the old turntable technology. And now it's paying me back beautifully by playing Cross Eyed Mary [yeah, I turned the side over] excellently, right now.
the stain Posted 8 May, 2010 Posted 8 May, 2010 Can you believe they're not actually trying to sing!?!
chrisobee Posted 8 May, 2010 Posted 8 May, 2010 Unfortunately I've moved about 20 times in the last 20 years and at times some things had to go. I had a great hi-fi system but don't ask the specifications as it was custom built by a mate of mine who by the sound of it came out of the same mould as you ! The speakers were the size of radiators, top quality turntable ( cost about £400 in 1981), the sound quality was superb. It played like a dream. Alas that fell by the wayside though I did at least manage to find it a very good home and once in a while I get to listen to it again. Far better quality than anything I have ever found on CD.
St Landrew Posted 8 May, 2010 Posted 8 May, 2010 The Best of UB40 - Volume One. I remember when Food For Thought first came out and me being a naive loyal subject of out blessed UK, I thought it was a severe boat rocking pop song. How stupid can one be..? It was actually an extremely well written song, in the UK reggae style, with a message. UB40 made some lovely music. At this moment, I'm listening to the track King, and it is a really beautiful piece of music.

Well there you go mate. Analogue vinyl will last far longer than digital CD. If you ever want some help getting something together, I'm always available for a bit of advice. I'd enjoy converting to you back.

Finally after nearly 4 years waiting a number of really good albums are posted, rather in the same way you wait an eternity for London buses then dozens come along in the blink of an eye !! And to be fair you would have been what 20 or so when Food For Thought was released so your confusion is understandable even if I did get it at the 1st time of hearing

And to be fair you would have been what 20 or so when Food For Thought was released so your confusion is understandable even if I did get it at the 1st time of hearing You're right. I was 21, and anyway I didn't like their style of music. It took me a long time to get into any form of reggae, and when I did, it was a grudging acceptance, which is stupid, as there is some great stuff from that genre. I thought I had my finger on some sort of musical pulse, at the time, and in fact I hadn't a clue. The truth is, you like what you like, and as long as the music has merit, and is genuine, it's as good as anything else.
St Landrew Posted 8 May, 2010 Posted 8 May, 2010 The Pretenders - Pretenders II I remember buying this album on a bit of a whim, back then. I've hardly played it more than half a dozen times in nearly 30 years. It still stands up. Birds of Paradise is superb.

chrisobee Posted 8 May, 2010 Posted 8 May, 2010 Headphones on so as not to wake the neighbours my latest CD and as good as ever : Paul Weller : Wake Up The Nation- Trees, repeating ! The best track on the album, my one moan is that many of the 22 tracks are too short.
miserableoldgit Posted 8 May, 2010 Posted 8 May, 2010 Sounds good to me Andy, it seems a tour is planned, Spamalot http://montypythonsspamalot.com/index.php Wish I still had my old vinyl collection, lots of stuff I can't get on CD/DVD I have tickets for the Mayflower show. Saw Spamalot in London and really enjoyed it. Completely silly but all the more enjoyable for that.
dubai_phil Posted 8 May, 2010 Posted 8 May, 2010 (edited) We had the big gig last night. Wasn't initially keen on going to see some old washed out has beens () but with a friend in town we got our act together and went up. Two full concerts, Spandau Ballet & Rod Stewart, propably around 8-10,000 in the audience and mostly wrinklies. Spandau came on Tony Hadleigh is certainly chunkier these days and apart from a couple of not very interesting tracks from their new album they played their back catalogue for the best part of 90 minutes. Seemed much harder and rockier sound than on album and I have to say they were absolutely fantastic. A great show, and so many good songs half remembered in amongst the classics. Carlsberg Don't do Support Bands but if they did.... For you older types if they rock up in a city near you head on down for a really good show and wallow in nostalgia with a happy grin on your face. Then the "Headline" Dear Old Rod. Sure looks like he could do with a bit more Botox these days, but he had a BIG show (and Mamma the Sax player doing her blowing thing gave all the guys in the stadium a tingly moment) He did a few numbers from his new album, normally a dull spot in any show, but Soulbook is full of covers of old Soul Classics which fitted in perfectly with his old "This Ole heart of Mine" sound and were really good. All the classics came out, at times the sing-along of the wrinlies almost drowned out the sound of the band - good old hair standing on end moments. Even got his football in with a Celtic Video and kicking signed footballs into the audience. Having not been over keen on going in the run up to the shows we rocked up, got almost as plastered as some forum members at Gillingham and the evening was right up there in the Top ten gigs ever seen by everybody on the beer bus back home. A great night, the start of a new tour for Rod and WELL worth the trip up to O2 or whereever he'll be in the UK. A really great set. Oh and yes Rule 1 here you go... hamster Posted 9 May, 2010 Posted 9 May, 2010 Human League - Dare 1st time I have listened to inabout 15 years - what a great album Nice one, from my formative years. I'd also recomend giving 'Upstairs at Eric's' a play. Deffo one of the better early electro examples, and THAT voice of hers, spine-tingling.
