Sort of thing Landrew would cream over I imagine. It's f*cking awful.

As you'll also imagine, no doubt, I was curious. I lasted all of one minute, not before I creamed, but before brain matter started emerging from my ears. The sort of response one gets when the theme tune to Eastenders is played to anyone while they are strapped down and can't resist. Beyond f*cking awful.

I suppose it would just kill you to realise that I quite like the odd Teardrop Explodes track..? :)

I can't figure out Brian Eno, is he a genius or is he simply a crackpot? Or is he both?

Myself, i'm chillaxing with a bit of Roots Manuva - Brand New Second Hand.

Yeah, I know what you mean. He probably is a genius, who is on the cusp of being a crackpot. Quite an influence on modern music, yet being able to run his own direction.

Anyway, I'm rattling through them tonight. Now:

I've had to study him rather intensively as a Music Technology student (which is harder than it sounds!), and some of the stuff he's done has been amazing, while other stuff has just been confusing. He defines Electro-Acoustic music and yes, modern music would not be what we know without him.

Anyone else's Spotify skipping a bit tonight? Mine seems to stop randomly for a few seconds at a time every 40-50 seconds. Not a bandwidth issue as i'm the only one using the internet on my connection at the moment...

Just watched Amy Williams become Great Britain's first individual Olympic Champion since Robin Cousins in 1980. Everybody kept shouting Amy, and it reminded me of some particular lyrics. Can anyone remember this chorus, and identify the artist and the song...? Hopefully, I've got this right because I've taken it from memory.

Amy, I may not be James Dean

Amy, I may not be nineteen

And I may still be in romper boots and jeans

but oooh Amy, you're the girl that wrecks my dreams

I'm tired and haven't sleeping well recently so I'm giving the Saintsweb podcast a go tonight.

It worked a treat. I slept a full 10 hours last night, doubling my usual amount. Brilliant! I fully recommend the Saintsweb podcast to everyone, although I feel a little drowsy this morning so I'll make sure I don't operate any heavy machinery. Thanks Saintsweb!

For those people who have been unable to sleep since I posted this question at 2.00am this morning, the artist was Elton John, the song is, of course, Amy, and the album is Honky Chateau.

Now go and get some kip. :smt015

Brian Eno has created, and contributed to, many great albums.

His peak was the middle 70s. I loved Another Green World and Before and After Science. And his mid-70s "ambient music" LPs were excellent: e.g., Discreet Music, Music For Airports, Music For Films, On Land. He's also done great stuff with others (as musician and/or producer): Talking Heads, Robert Fripp, Harold Budd, Jon Hassell.

Highly recommended!

Fantastic performance of one of the best songs ever written. Just a shame for me that I never got to see them in their prime...

Hamilton, i'll give Brian Eno's stuff a more in-depth listen as he's got a rather extended discography on Spotify! Anything in particular that you would recommend as 'entry level' Eno?

King Midas Sound, Pantha Du Prince, Kemper Norton and Amon Duul II. Not all at once, but again and again.

Midas, Pantha and Amon all excellent not sure about Kemper though ...very psuedo-rustic Boards Of Canada-lite played by wacky student types.

Damn you, Manji. Damn you to hell. I'll be getting that later on in the week. I'm currently listening to Delaware - Drop Nineteens.

Agreed.

'Bush of Ghosts' (1981 FFS and still fresh as f*ck!) is a classic and has been a source of inspiration and samples for many 'modern' electronic artists.

Eno is a legend. As artist, producer and collaborator.

I love the early Roxy Music stuff.

And let's not forget David Bowie's best work; 'Low', 'Heroes' and 'Lodger' were all Eno fuelled.

Ha! Just this moment finished listening to For Your Pleasure.

I know it's a bit corny in parts, but

is just brilliant.
