Kadeem Hardison Posted 19 February, 2010 Posted 19 February, 2010 I'm tired and haven't sleeping well recently so I'm giving the Saintsweb podcast a go tonight.
Julian H. Cope Posted 19 February, 2010 Author Posted 19 February, 2010 This......http://www.resonancearchive1.org.uk/audio/speakers/Speakers3-Space.mp3 Sort of thing Landrew would cream over I imagine. It's f*cking awful.
Block 5 Posted 19 February, 2010 Posted 19 February, 2010 This......http://www.resonancearchive1.org.uk/audio/speakers/Speakers3-Space.mp3 Sort of thing Landrew would cream over I imagine. It's f*cking awful. WTF is this guff?
Julian H. Cope Posted 19 February, 2010 Author Posted 19 February, 2010 WTF is this guff? I know. Someone sent me the link. I want you all to suffer. The Wonder Stuff - Eight Legged Groove Machine. Just the sort of rousing I need prior to a night out.
percy windham Posted 19 February, 2010 Posted 19 February, 2010 I know. Someone sent me the link. I want you all to suffer. The Wonder Stuff - Eight Legged Groove Machine. Just the sort of rousing I need prior to a night out. I cant play the link right now, but isnt it "The Actor Kevin Eldon"? Its a mickey-take if it is him.
Deppo Posted 19 February, 2010 Posted 19 February, 2010 M83 - Saturdays = Youth My Bloody Valentine - Loveless The Brian Jonestown Massacre I see those Primal Screams are playing Screamadelica in full later this year.
St Landrew Posted 19 February, 2010 Posted 19 February, 2010 This......http://www.resonancearchive1.org.uk/audio/speakers/Speakers3-Space.mp3 Sort of thing Landrew would cream over I imagine. It's f*cking awful. As you'll also imagine, no doubt, I was curious. I lasted all of one minute, not before I creamed, but before brain matter started emerging from my ears. The sort of response one gets when the theme tune to Eastenders is played to anyone while they are strapped down and can't resist. Beyond f*cking awful. I suppose it would just kill you to realise that I quite like the odd Teardrop Explodes track..?
St Landrew Posted 19 February, 2010 Posted 19 February, 2010 Peter Gabriel - 1 Simple Minds - Sons & Fascination

St Landrew Posted 20 February, 2010 Posted 20 February, 2010 David Byrne & Brian Eno - My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts
SuperMikey Posted 20 February, 2010 Posted 20 February, 2010 David Byrne & Brian Eno - My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts I can't figure out Brian Eno, is he a genius or is he simply a crackpot? Or is he both? Myself, i'm chillaxing with a bit of Roots Manuva - Brand New Second Hand.
St Landrew Posted 20 February, 2010 Posted 20 February, 2010 I can't figure out Brian Eno, is he a genius or is he simply a crackpot? Or is he both? Myself, i'm chillaxing with a bit of Roots Manuva - Brand New Second Hand. Yeah, I know what you mean. He probably is a genius, who is on the cusp of being a crackpot. Quite an influence on modern music, yet being able to run his own direction. Anyway, I'm rattling through them tonight. Now: The Art of Noise - In Visible Silence
SuperMikey Posted 20 February, 2010 Posted 20 February, 2010 Yeah, I know what you mean. He probably is a genius, who is on the cusp of being a crackpot. Quite an influence on modern music, yet being able to run his own direction. I've had to study him rather intensively as a Music Technology student (which is harder than it sounds!), and some of the stuff he's done has been amazing, while other stuff has just been confusing. He defines Electro-Acoustic music and yes, modern music would not be what we know without him. Anyone else's Spotify skipping a bit tonight? Mine seems to stop randomly for a few seconds at a time every 40-50 seconds. Not a bandwidth issue as i'm the only one using the internet on my connection at the moment...
St Landrew Posted 20 February, 2010 Posted 20 February, 2010 (edited) Just watched Amy Williams become Great Britain's first individual Olympic Champion since Robin Cousins in 1980. Everybody kept shouting Amy, and it reminded me of some particular lyrics. Can anyone remember this chorus, and identify the artist and the song...? Hopefully, I've got this right because I've taken it from memory. Amy, I may not be James Dean Amy, I may not be nineteen And I may still be in romper boots and jeans but oooh Amy, you're the girl that wrecks my dreams Edited 20 February, 2010 by St Landrew
St Landrew Posted 20 February, 2010 Posted 20 February, 2010 Last album tonight, and I've blown guitar practice again. Think I've had the guitar in my hands for an hour this week. Poor. Anyway: Joe Jackson - Night & Day.
Julian H. Cope Posted 20 February, 2010 Author Posted 20 February, 2010 Booka Shade - The Sun & The Neon Light.
Kadeem Hardison Posted 20 February, 2010 Posted 20 February, 2010 I'm tired and haven't sleeping well recently so I'm giving the Saintsweb podcast a go tonight. It worked a treat. I slept a full 10 hours last night, doubling my usual amount. Brilliant! I fully recommend the Saintsweb podcast to everyone, although I feel a little drowsy this morning so I'll make sure I don't operate any heavy machinery. Thanks Saintsweb!
Block 5 Posted 20 February, 2010 Posted 20 February, 2010 Smoke - 'Everything'. An amazing album; jazzy, funky, psychedelic. Does anyone own this on vinyl? If so, expect to get £70 - £100 for it.

Myself, i'm chillaxing with a bit of Roots Manuva - Brand New Second Hand. Run Come Save Me is also brilliant by Mr Manuva I've had "Foreign Beggars - United Colours of Beggatron" on this morning
Julian H. Cope Posted 20 February, 2010 Author Posted 20 February, 2010 Small Faces - 'Ogden's Nut Gone Flake'. One of the greatest albums ever made, IMO. F*cking love it.
harvey Posted 20 February, 2010 Posted 20 February, 2010 The Go Team! - Everyone's A V.I.P To Someone.

Now go and get some kip. :smt015
Redbul Posted 21 February, 2010 Posted 21 February, 2010 Gone a bit retro today (well, not too retro....) and am going through the back catalogue of what were Derby's finest. First up is: Downlift the Uptrodden by Cable. Quality.
Block 5 Posted 21 February, 2010 Posted 21 February, 2010 The Velvet Underground & Nico - 'The Velvet Underground & Nico'.
Block 5 Posted 21 February, 2010 Posted 21 February, 2010 Genesis - 'Selling England by the Pound'. "A waterfall is madrigal...." Gorgeous! Genesis - 'Foxtrot'. "Hand in hand....gland in gland..." Several moments of musical and lyrical genius.
Hamilton Saint Posted 21 February, 2010 Posted 21 February, 2010 David Byrne & Brian Eno - My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts The original album was great (I have it on vinyl), but the remastered, re-released version is very different - inferior, IMHO.
Hamilton Saint Posted 21 February, 2010 Posted 21 February, 2010 I can't figure out Brian Eno, is he a genius or is he simply a crackpot? Or is he both? Myself, i'm chillaxing with a bit of Roots Manuva - Brand New Second Hand. Brian Eno has created, and contributed to, many great albums. His peak was the middle 70s. I loved Another Green World and Before and After Science. And his mid-70s "ambient music" LPs were excellent: e.g., Discreet Music, Music For Airports, Music For Films, On Land. He's also done great stuff with others (as musician and/or producer): Talking Heads, Robert Fripp, Harold Budd, Jon Hassell. Highly recommended!
SuperMikey Posted 21 February, 2010 Posted 21 February, 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEiyGgWt6no Fantastic performance of one of the best songs ever written. Just a shame for me that I never got to see them in their prime... Hamilton, i'll give Brian Eno's stuff a more in-depth listen as he's got a rather extended discography on Spotify! Anything in particular that you would recommend as 'entry level' Eno?
manji Posted 21 February, 2010 Posted 21 February, 2010 King Midas Sound, Pantha Du Prince, Kemper Norton and Amon Duul II. Not all at once, but again and again. Midas, Pantha and Amon all excellent not sure about Kemper though ...very psuedo-rustic Boards Of Canada-lite played by wacky student types. Toro Y Moi-Causers Of This

Toro Y Moi-Causers Of This Damn you, Manji. Damn you to hell. I'll be getting that later on in the week. I'm currently listening to Delaware - Drop Nineteens.

'Bush of Ghosts' (1981 FFS and still fresh as f*ck!) is a classic and has been a source of inspiration and samples for many 'modern' electronic artists. Eno is a legend. As artist, producer and collaborator. I love the early Roxy Music stuff. And let's not forget David Bowie's best work; 'Low', 'Heroes' and 'Lodger' were all Eno fuelled.

Just this moment finished listening to For Your Pleasure. I know it's a bit corny in parts, but is just brilliant.
