jeff leopard Posted 14 January, 2010 Posted 14 January, 2010 F**k Buttons – Tarot Sport It’s alright, a bit too bombastic, and you can’t really dance to it beyond some shrugging and air guitar, closer on the rocktronica spectrum to Chemical Bros than Holy F**k. Make of that what you will. Or don’t. It’s your call. Flaming Lips – Dark Side of the Moon The first half works well because it sounds little like the original, the second half gets a bit lost but it all ends well. Covering Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety could have been a huge bag of arse, but this is the new look Flaming Lips, and like Embryonic, it has a pleasing gritty and fuzzy live feel. Not as much fun as the Easy Star All-Stars’ dub version though. Tortoise – Beacons of Ancestorship I saw them playing this live a few months ago and it sounded like a stone-cold classic. On record, it’s nice without really melting your face off, which kind of sums Tortoise up. Tortoise – TNT It’s nice enough, and would work brilliantly as a modern film noir soundtrack, but strays a little too much into ‘dinner party music’ territory.

Redbul Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 I'm having an Underworld moment....but the weekend has been a bit techno for some reason. I've just been listening to Dubnobasswithmyhead, Second Toughest In The Infants, Beaucoup Fish.... Earlier I was giving Spooky Found Sound a spin and then Starseeds Parallel Life and Salt Tank Science and Nature and Wave Breaks.

Hamilton Saint Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Ian Dury & The Blockheads - Hit Me With Your Rythm Stick I heard an interesting interview (via a BBC Radio 4 podcast) with Andy Serkis about the work he did playing Ian Dury in a new film biography called Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. Is it out yet over in the UK? Here's a trailer for the film. http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/southeastwales/hi/people_and_places/arts_and_culture/newsid_8456000/8456814.stm

St Landrew Posted 21 January, 2010 Posted 21 January, 2010 My days are all turned round at the moment, due to being a bit off-colour. Can't sleep, and am going to listen to a few episodes of The Navy Lark at very low volume, in the hope it'll lull me off to zzZZzzZZ land. Here goes. Goodnight anybody else awake at this time of night, and goodday to Saint in Paradise, and other eastern hemisphere Saints fans.
