St Landrew Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 (edited) Sorry, can you move that to the 'What are you watching' thread, please? I'll try, OK..? Now a blast from the past. The Groundhogs - Split Here's a taster for people who know a Groundhog from Bill Murray: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdGYjch2oOw Actually, the [2001, A Space Odyssey] video is quite nicely chosen. You'll notice it said Part 1, Here's Part 2. Again, note the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3pLU2kkwnc Sounds great to me..! P.S. Sorry about the **** up Deppo. I edited when I meant to quote. Edited 2 December, 2009 by St Landrew
St Landrew Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 Wahey, we're on a roll here now. Split Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYAfRMAUjk4&NR=1 Love the videos. I may start dusting off my other Groundhog albums, at this rate.
St Landrew Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 (edited) Oh well, I might as well post Split Part 4. It wasn't my favourite part of the album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t96n2DlpDiY&NR=1 Still OK though. EDIT: The 2001 videos are so good, I might watch the film again before I hit the pit. St Landrew Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 (edited) I'm listening off my album, but I could always direct you lot to side 2 via Youtube. It seems to be all on there. Cherry Red - Quiet, so turn it up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POGsy9Ru9sE A Year in the Life - Junkman - Ground Hog - Can't find this last track from the Split album, but just keep getting a lot of vids from Bill Murray's film, which is understandable. If you're keen you'll find it, no doubt. OK, found the last track by accident: Edited 2 December, 2009 by St Landrew
St Landrew Posted 3 December, 2009 Posted 3 December, 2009 Fully immersed in the archives now: Roxy Music - In Every Dream Home A Heartache. Brilliant track.

Hamilton Saint Posted 6 December, 2009 Posted 6 December, 2009 Dusty in Memphis by Dusty Springfield (1969), produced by Jerry Wexler and Arif Mardin. I have the 1999 Deluxe Edition released by Rhino Records in the US; it has 14 bonus tracks.
Barney Trubble Posted 6 December, 2009 Posted 6 December, 2009 Can anyone advise on what albums are the best to get to listen to 'Rage against the Machine' for a newbie. Do they have a greatest hits?
Neil Posted 6 December, 2009 Posted 6 December, 2009 Can anyone advise on what albums are the best to get to listen to 'Rage against the Machine' for a newbie. Do they have a greatest hits? They've got three LPs and one Covers album, so I would say just start with the debut album 'Rage Against The Machine', with 'Bombtrack' and 'Killing in the Name' tracks that you may have heard from it. And don't forget to get them to Christmas No. 1!
The Cat Posted 6 December, 2009 Posted 6 December, 2009 Low - The Great Destroyer Quality album. It has to be time for me to dust off their Christmas album soon and give it a listen.
RonManager Posted 6 December, 2009 Posted 6 December, 2009 Joy Division - Decades. Sublime and haunting. For some reason reminds of winter walks around Cambridge in the late 70s.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 6 December, 2009 Posted 6 December, 2009 Joy Division - Decades. Sublime and haunting. For some reason reminds of winter walks around Cambridge in the late 70s. That whole album is haunting.

Can't believe I had never heard of them before the current campaign. Thanks.
saint_bert Posted 7 December, 2009 Posted 7 December, 2009 Thanks Neil. That's were my interest came from. I saw the campaign and heard the single and just had to find out more. Can't believe I had never heard of them before the current campaign. Thanks. Fantastic band. Saw them at Reading a couple of years back. Seeing them do Bombtrack, dressed in the Guantanimo Bay get up was awesome. Barny Trubble, if you like Rage, try Audioslave.

Ponty Posted 7 December, 2009 Posted 7 December, 2009 Is there a campaign to get them to xmas number 1? I remember when Bruno Brookes accidentally played "Killing In The Name" in all its "F*** you, I won't do what you tell me!" glory on Radio 1, when it was first released (1991?). Brilliant. Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine is firmly in my Top 10 albums of my lifetime.
Ponty Posted 7 December, 2009 Posted 7 December, 2009 Also, if RATM hit the number 1 spot this Christmas I will never mock the power of a Facebook group again. This is something I do frequently.

Pancake Posted 8 December, 2009 Posted 8 December, 2009 Jesu - Opiate Sun EP Really good, such a 'British' release. "Losing Streak" just shouts early 90's to me, in more than just a single genre - its just a feeling. "Deflated" is also a stormer, some really nice crunch guitar work on there mixed into the drone. Broadrick's vocals are top notch throughout. Might well sneak into my Top 10 of 2009.

the stain Posted 8 December, 2009 Posted 8 December, 2009 Also, if RATM hit the number 1 spot this Christmas I will never mock the power of a Facebook group again. This is something I do frequently. But... but... everyone's going out and buying this one tune, because someone has organised it as a reaction to the mass-marketed pop that would otherwise be Christmas number 1... and a song with the refrain '**** you, I won't do what you tell me'... And if anyone really, honestly was that anti-corporate they would neither know nor care what was at number 1 in the pop charts... and... and... You might as well all put your hands in the air and say, 'Ooh please, Mr Record Executive, I don't feel my music product consuming needs are being effectively marketed to. This is the group I feel part of, tell me what I should like!'
the stain Posted 8 December, 2009 Posted 8 December, 2009 "**** you, I won't do what you tell me! **** you, I won't do what you tell me!... Everybody sing along!"
Pancake Posted 8 December, 2009 Posted 8 December, 2009 Its in mine :-) I know, thats what prompted me. Cheers Manj!

manji Posted 8 December, 2009 Posted 8 December, 2009 Cult of Luna..........`` Cult of Luna`` Brilliant band. Lucky enough to seem em at The Joiners about a year ago.

Sorry Uncle Ponty, it wasn't really directed at you, just at the campaign itself which all of my Facebook friends have asked me to join. I'm not going to buy it either.
