Pancake Posted 17 August, 2009 Posted 17 August, 2009 Satie's Gymnopedie suite #2 is lovely, deserves to be better known that #1. I always heard a bit of Satie in the "Ghosts 1" album from Nine Inch Nails.

Rattlehead Posted 28 August, 2009 Posted 28 August, 2009 Alice In Chains Unplugged. Superb and in retrospect very poignant vocals from Layne.
Block 5 Posted 29 August, 2009 Posted 29 August, 2009 Luke Vibert in his various aliases, guaranteed to put a smile on your face. First heard of him when I bought "Big Soup" on MoWax, a brilliant album! I've had a soft spot ever since. Then I discovered he's from the same place as most of my family.

Stanley Saint Posted 30 August, 2009 Posted 30 August, 2009 'Em Are I' - Jeffrey Lewis. Saw him at Hamptons last week and am now getting dangerously obsessed with his slightly deranged syle.
Deppo Posted 31 August, 2009 Posted 31 August, 2009 Passion Pit - Manners everyone should go and buy this, it's like musical Prozac. sick squid in hmvees.
Redbul Posted 2 September, 2009 Posted 2 September, 2009 Fun Lovin' Criminals today. In chronological order I think. Just listened to Come Find Yourself, now on 100% Colombian. This second album sounds much 'rougher' than the first and imho is the much better for it.
Pancake Posted 2 September, 2009 Posted 2 September, 2009 The Wildhearts - ¡Chutzpah! Too early for a proper like/dislike but on first spins there are a few songs that stand up to their past work. You heard it yet Ponts?
Ponty Posted 3 September, 2009 Posted 3 September, 2009 The Wildhearts - Chutzpah! Can't decide yet.. I mean, it's less eye-widening than "Endless Nameless" and less poptastic than "....Must Be Destroyed", but it's lacking something. It's not as hard as "The Wildhearts", not as R'N'R as "P.H.U.Q", "Riff After Riff" and "Earth Vs..." but it's not innovative either. Some of the songs are great, some are too formulaic and some just sound like covers of any American rock band's B-sides. I'm sure it'll grow on me more as I play it relentlessly on the iPod. PS. I'm aware that this review was really only informative to Pancake.

A couple of songs are total WH-AOR-pop: "The Only One" and "...New York", the former actually being on of my faves so far. Not keen on "...New York" as its the type of throw-away Ginger track he was knocking out as his "Singles Club" stuff back in '01. "The Jackson Whites" and "Mazel Tov ****tail" are awesome tracks that will be on repeat a lot I think. "Tim Smith" and the title track are as close as we get to riff-tastic epic this time, not bad but both too short! Im pretty sure "John Of Violence" was nicked from Green Day (I jest, natch). You downloaded "The Snake, The Lion, The Monkey and The Spider" from their official site yet? The unofficial "Track 11" from the album. Plus there are 4 extra tracks on the Jap. version, including the full version of "Zeen Requiem" that I sent you the bootleg of earlier in the year. Not sure when they are getting a UK release, but Ive got the Jap. version on order so should be hear soon.
Ponty Posted 3 September, 2009 Posted 3 September, 2009 I didn't download SLMS but I listed to the stream (assuming it would be on the album - perhaps I should read more closely) and thought it was great, in a lol way ("f***ing, crazy b***ard" and monkey noises should be included in every song IMO) and will be downloading it tonight. Where have you ordered the Japanese release from, out of interest?
Pancake Posted 3 September, 2009 Posted 3 September, 2009 The extra tracks will be uk released at some point, but no one is saying when. I, being the completest geek I am cant wait for "whenever"

St Landrew Posted 3 September, 2009 Posted 3 September, 2009 Well after watching a few episodes of Game On, from the link I left on The Office thread, I decided to actually listen to Where I find My Heaven by the Gigolo Aunts. Nice bit of pop, and a cracking beginning to each episode of Game On. But here's the whole song, and a little video of Harrison Ford flying aeroplanes [airplanes to him, no doubt]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xHKMJBEFM0
