Rut Posted 18 July, 2014 Posted 18 July, 2014 Might be spamming this thread, but f*ck it. Just stumbled across this band, couple of great songs but I think this is the jewel in the crown. Their album Absolute Zero is definitely worth a listen. Not if it's anything like this song. Awful, pretentious tripe. 'Shut the fck up love' is what springs to mind.
Polaroid Saint Posted 18 July, 2014 Posted 18 July, 2014 Latest Long Player from Dylan Ross (not the racehorse), fantastically odd rapper/producer from the Florida Alt-Rap scene. http://ilovedylanross.bandcamp.com/album/the-castle-of-depression Homie has been doing this sh!t for a while now and I really really like it. This is pretty darn dark and disturbing, in the best way. When I say 'odd' I mean ODD.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 18 July, 2014 Posted 18 July, 2014 Mikey, keep spamming. That one wasn't my cup of tea, but whatever. Opinions. If it's not you, it's me. So better the both of us. Anyways, this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qJk85Ey4Qs
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 18 July, 2014 Posted 18 July, 2014 Bring back Caribou! and this:
lifeintheslowlane Posted 19 July, 2014 Posted 19 July, 2014 Always makes me cry...just wonderful. Images from Manhattan and Annie Hall.
SuperMikey Posted 19 July, 2014 Posted 19 July, 2014 One of my favourite bands, their first album is still something I spin at least once a fortnight. This is the closing track, remember watching this live when I was about 14 and it blew my mind!
Wrensup Posted 19 July, 2014 Posted 19 July, 2014 New album Manslaughter has just come out.
Jonnyboy Posted 19 July, 2014 Posted 19 July, 2014 New album Manslaughter has just come out. Blast from the past! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7kakUJARSOc
The Cat Posted 19 July, 2014 Posted 19 July, 2014 Saw this band a couple of weeks ago, they were incredible live. This is their new single, first album out next month.
The Cat Posted 19 July, 2014 Posted 19 July, 2014 I've also become bewitched with a mysterious lost album from 1983 that's just been re-released. Legend has it the bloke who made it rocked up for the album photo shoot in a posh sports car and a girlfriend with model looks on his arm. When the photographer tried to bank the cheque it bounced, and no one heard from him again. A few years ago some crate digger came across the album in a junk shop, bought it and started to investigate the music and the man who made it. It's now come out again on vinyl and cd. It could be described as a synth Nick Drake with slight similarities to Angelo Badalamenti and even mellower Springsteen. Whatever, there's something incredibly intriguing about it's hushed, understated delivery and melencholic tones.
SuperMikey Posted 20 July, 2014 Posted 20 July, 2014 Probably posted this one before as well, but I just love The National. Perfect Sunday listening.
Block 5 Posted 20 July, 2014 Posted 20 July, 2014 DJ Qbert - Extraterrestria Astounding stuff! Reminds me of a DMT trip. Whole album here..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGcl2T2LVEs
Pancake Posted 20 July, 2014 Posted 20 July, 2014 DJ Qbert - Extraterrestria Astounding stuff! Reminds me of a DMT trip. Whole album here..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGcl2T2LVEs Bookmarks for tomorrow.
Block 5 Posted 20 July, 2014 Posted 20 July, 2014 Bookmarks for tomorrow. It's one half of a double album. This half is like inter-dimensional alien abstract hip hop. The other album features a host of rappers (Kool Keith, Del the Funky Homosapien etc) rhyming over Qbert Thud Rumble madness. All good.
mattsbignose Posted 21 July, 2014 Posted 21 July, 2014 As the sun is out, I have been listening to Ska all day. Ska is what's at. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpYqTnHU9oM&feature=youtube_gdata_player http://youtu.be/NWF-zEWckUU I reckon you might like this then, but skip to 16.40 if you want to cut straight to the main man, the Don of ska!
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 21 July, 2014 Posted 21 July, 2014 I bloody love Mastodon. http://youtu.be/mGTyXCb8lb4
SuperMikey Posted 21 July, 2014 Posted 21 July, 2014 Alvvays album came out on Spotify today - it's a good listen!
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 21 July, 2014 Posted 21 July, 2014 Alvvays album came out on Spotify today - it's a good listen! Ah decent. Will have to have a go on that.
lifeintheslowlane Posted 23 July, 2014 Posted 23 July, 2014 Here's one for you Kelv...as a self proclaimed pop girly music fan...this is a lot of fun... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lKh8OoMPjU
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 24 July, 2014 Posted 24 July, 2014 Here's one for you Kelv...as a self proclaimed pop girly music fan...this is a lot of fun... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lKh8OoMPjU Ahhh, you know me well mate. I enjoyed that, there's a touch of Lana about that sultry voice - which is a winner for me. Cheers man.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 24 July, 2014 Posted 24 July, 2014 All the buzz seems to be around these at the moment, their album is a good listen. To use a cliche, they sound like the lovechild of The XX and Foals. Can't help but feel it would be improved by some vocals though.. I also like this.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 24 July, 2014 Posted 24 July, 2014 Saw this band a couple of weeks ago, they were incredible live. This is their new single, first album out next month. Sorry, I'll stop in a minute before Ron berates me again . But these guys are really good too. Saw them support Drenge earlier this year and I agree, incredible.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 25 July, 2014 Posted 25 July, 2014 New Jessie Ware stuff is sounding good. This one is co-written with Romy from The xx, you can hear her influence. Really like it. [soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/jessieware/jessiewareshareit-all[/soundcloud]
The Cat Posted 25 July, 2014 Posted 25 July, 2014 Sorry, I'll stop in a minute before Ron berates me again . But these guys are really good too. Saw them support Drenge earlier this year and I agree, incredible. I saw them support Parquet Courts in Oxford. There was mosh pits and crowdsurfing, beer being lobbed about. 20 years ago I'd have been right in the middle of it, nowdays I lean against the wall by the bogs!
The Cat Posted 25 July, 2014 Posted 25 July, 2014 If you like jangly, summery, reverb soaked indie then the forthcoming albums from Horsebeach and Childhood are sounding pretty tasty
mattsbignose Posted 25 July, 2014 Posted 25 July, 2014 Bunny Wailer, live at the Concorde2 in Brighton last night. The man has some back catalogue to draw upon and just went straight through, song after song for just over 90 minutes. Venue was jumping and bloody hot!
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 25 July, 2014 Posted 25 July, 2014 I saw them support Parquet Courts in Oxford. There was mosh pits and crowdsurfing, beer being lobbed about. 20 years ago I'd have been right in the middle of it, nowdays I lean against the wall by the bogs! Haha sounds similar to when I saw them. I usually hang around a bit further back, but me and a mate got a pi**ed and went in with the kids down the front. Good fun. How were Parquet Courts out of interest? I'd be keen to see them. As you may have guessed from above I like Childhood too. Seen them as supports a few times, pretty decent live. I do like the "jangly, summery, reverb soaked indie" sound, been listening to a fair bit of Diiv, Beach Fossils & Real Estate recently. I'll give Horsebeach a go.
The Cat Posted 25 July, 2014 Posted 25 July, 2014 How were Parquet Courts out of interest? I'd be keen to see them. They were excellent. I'd only caught the last 15 minutes of them at a festival last year so made sure I got to see them this time. When they went from a 5 minute feedback tinged psych jam straight in to the balls out punk of Master Of My Craft and Borrowed Time back to back things got pretty messy.

lifeintheslowlane Posted 27 July, 2014 Posted 27 July, 2014 Here's one for the older element here. From Tom Petty's new album, "Hypnotic Eye"...out Monday.
Minty Posted 28 July, 2014 Posted 28 July, 2014 (edited) Guest post by me seeing as I'm way too mainstream to normally frequent this thread. But just got the album 'Forever Tomorrow' by Weekend Sun, courtesy of Hero Records. Described as "soul, funk, jazz, hip hop and reggae-flavours" http://www.herorecords.co.uk/?p=2377 Some of you might like it. Or maybe not. The label was started by a Saints fan and DJ friend of mine, the name is based on his own releases which are released under the name 'Hero Number 7'... no prizes for guessing why. KelvinsRightGlove Posted 29 July, 2014 Posted 29 July, 2014 Well seeing as we are all on a downer, I thought I'd share this. Was having a LCD nostalgia trip, and this little gem comes on. Always forget how much I love it. Plus, Kermit.
SuperMikey Posted 29 July, 2014 Posted 29 July, 2014 Only just discovered this lot, seems they've been around for a couple of years. I like this song, features King Krule (who i've never got into personally). Thought i'd share it.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Only just discovered this lot, seems they've been around for a couple of years. I like this song, features King Krule (who i've never got into personally). Thought i'd share it. They're alright. Saw them support The xx last year.
pap Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 I'm back on the ATL rap and hip hop. Run The Jewels, Turn it up and enjoy.
Goatboy Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Still stuck in my 80's nostalgia moment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=05eZUuvBKqk

SuperMikey Posted 31 July, 2014 Posted 31 July, 2014 To celebrate the excellent news that TV on the Radio have a new album coming out soon, I have been reliving their excellent set at Glastonbury in 2011 which is still one of the finest (and hottest) I have seen. This and the cover of Ghostbusters that followed just after being the highlights!
The Cat Posted 5 August, 2014 Posted 5 August, 2014 Only just discovered this lot, seems they've been around for a couple of years. I like this song, features King Krule (who i've never got into personally). Thought i'd share it. I'm a big fan of their first album. This is a great tune from it.
The Cat Posted 5 August, 2014 Posted 5 August, 2014 Pale Seas new EP is getting some good reaction. They're a local band who could be on the verge of big things. http://vimeo.com/98539035
Goatboy Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Pale Seas new EP is getting some good reaction. They're a local band who could be on the verge of big things. http://vimeo.com/98539035 Nice that.
pap Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 One for you Papster Nice to see her doing new stuff, but nowhere near as good as her hit.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Nice to see her doing new stuff, but nowhere near as good as her hit. I agree. It's mid-range for her. She's done better, done worse. I read somewhere that her album is becoming the 'Chinese Democracy' of Hip-Hop, which made me chuckle.
The Cat Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 FKA Twigs has her first album out on monday. This has Mercury Prize winner written all over it.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 FKA Twigs has her first album out on monday. This has Mercury Prize winner written all over it. Yes. For some reason I decided to stick this on whilst being a data trawling bîtçh for the afternoon. Really regret it now. I want it again
The Cat Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 For some reason I decided to stick this on whilst being a data trawling bîtçh for the afternoon. Really regret it now. I want it again Meh. I've gone off them with this album. Too overproduced for my liking. They seem to have crawled up their own backsides. They f.ucking rocked when I saw them at Brixton Academy in 2007 though. The crowd were singing No Cars Go all the way back to the tube station.
