Deppo Posted 17 March, 2010 Posted 17 March, 2010 Stereolab - Refried Ectoplasm (Switched On Volume 2)
Block 5 Posted 17 March, 2010 Posted 17 March, 2010 More wax on the decks.......on a bit of a disco / salsoul tip..... (Being part 3 in a series in which I attempt to prove that Manji's theory that all music should only be listened to in it's original album format is erroneous). Instant Funk - 'I Got My Mind Made Up' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y5QmQAn5gU IMO this is the greatest dance track ever. Utterly filthy and sexy. Larry Levan on the remix. Inner Life featuring Jocelyn Brown - 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT-fdFe23Zc Possibly the best female vocalist of the last 30 years with Larry Levan's breathtaking mix of this classic tune. All time great. Loleatta Holloway & Dan Hartman - 'Love Sensation' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-31f6V_yqE Is this the most sampled song ever? Could be. And what a classic. First Choice featuring Rochelle Fleming - 'Let No Man Put Asunder' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHhSUJ5Xqp4 Is this the most sampled song ever? Shep Pettibone's original mix is the best. The Clash - 'The Magnificent Dance' Regularly played at the Paradise Garage and the Warehouse. Why? Because it's ****ing gorgeous. NYC Peech Boys - 'Don't Make Me Wait' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcJ5yutn4S4 Heavily sampled garage classic. Dinosaur L - 'Go Bang' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYfUGBfKCPU Arthur Russell producing, Francois Kevorkian mixing. Genius. Mahogany - 'Ride On the Rhythm' (Dub) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-_qhZNykeA&feature=related Finishing off with something a little downtempo to warm you down. Another West End Records classic.

Block 5 Posted 18 March, 2010 Posted 18 March, 2010 Yellow Moon Band - Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World. I remember hearing 'Chimney' on 6 Music a couple of years ago and thinking that it was some obscure early 70s release on the Harvest label. I was surprised to discover it wasn't 'vintage'. Great album.

St Landrew Posted 21 March, 2010 Posted 21 March, 2010 Bit of 60's Motown The Four Tops - Bernadette; Reach Out, I'll Be There Martha Reeves & the Vandellas - Jimmy Mack Jimmy Ruffin - What Becomes of the Broken Hearted Like being down The Dell.
St Landrew Posted 21 March, 2010 Posted 21 March, 2010 Bit of 60's Phil Spector. The Righteous Brothers - You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling. They certainly don't make songs anymore like the last five I've listened to.
St Landrew Posted 21 March, 2010 Posted 21 March, 2010 Yes, Grandad. Thankfully, I'm not a grandad. U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For How appropriate is that..?
Block 5 Posted 22 March, 2010 Posted 22 March, 2010 Black Children Sledge Funk Group - 'Love is Fair'.

Julian H. Cope Posted 24 March, 2010 Author Posted 24 March, 2010 The Mighty Lemon Drops - Inside Out. Propaganda - Duel. Music Go Music - Just Me.
Block 5 Posted 24 March, 2010 Posted 24 March, 2010 Zapp and Roger - 'All the Greatest Hits'. This gets a big thumbs up. Seek it out.
Julian H. Cope Posted 24 March, 2010 Author Posted 24 March, 2010 Zapp and Roger - 'All the Greatest Hits'. This gets a big thumbs up. Seek it out. Manji wouldn't like that.
Hamilton Saint Posted 24 March, 2010 Posted 24 March, 2010 Roberta Flack - First Time Ever I Saw Your Face She does it much too slowly - almost like a dirge. I prefer the Bert Jansch version. [bTW, it's a song by the great British folk-singer/songwriter Ewan MacColl.]
Block 5 Posted 24 March, 2010 Posted 24 March, 2010 (edited) Manji wouldn't like that. I'm not a fan of 'best of' albums, but this is a great introduction to Zapp and pretty easy to get hold of. Edited 24 March, 2010 by Block 5
RedAndWhite91 Posted 24 March, 2010 Posted 24 March, 2010 Various live recordings by Blur Prefer them in the big Blur/Oasis debate which nobody cares about any more and ended about 10 years ago.
