Oxlade Chamberlain having medical at Arsenal today

If, and it's still an if, Chamberlain leaves, is this any different from Lowe selling Walcott? I've read countless times that we are not a selling club (as if) and how great Cortese is for keeping Chamberlain. Well if Alex goes, NC is no better than Lowe on that score is he? By the way I never understood why Lowe was chastised for making good money on a player wanting to leave, so I'm not going to chastise Cortese for it either, but perhaps those that slate Lowe for selling the crown jewels will give it a rest.

I have to say I am gutted about this move. Losing Chamberlain is a huge backwards step for us IMO. "Sell and reinvest" is all very well, but we'll struggle to sign anyone as good as him. Having a great team is fine but there is still a requirement for exceptional players to unlock defences and turn draws into wins.

The fact that we kept him in Jan was a miracle IMO.

Are there those that criticise Lowe for selling players? I always thought one of the things he was extremely good at was getting a good price for our players.

And we'll always be a selling club. If Man Utd and Arsenal can't even keep hold of their prized assets, it's not really a bad thing.

Losing Alex is not the end of the world. He did very well last year but we can find other pacey wingers who can score goals so not fussed really loosing him (infact I think we already did sign one of those already did we not). However if we sold Adam then I would say it would be harder to replace him than any player we have in our squad at present. So lets just all keep quiet about Adam and hope that we get the most money possible for Alex, as if we do sell him for the £7-12M then it really is a bargin for a 17 year old who has only ever played league 1 football.

really? I never thought he'd leave in January, but I did think he'd go this summer. Real shame we won't get to see him for another season. Tremendous player.

It's a shame if he leaves but he is not one of our top 5 players at the moment. Fonte, Cork, Lallana, Connolly and Lambert are all more important to the squad.

Bale and Walcott were our best players at the time we sold them. He isn't. It's a shame but it's not a big problem.

Perhaps he has handed in a transfer request? Then there is nothing NC can do - OK say no and have an unhappy player to ruin the mood in the squad.

At least he still qualifies for the youth team he'd be training with...

He is fantastic mate. But him leaving is just an inevitable reality - He had his head turned, and there's not much we can do about it. The only solace I can take is that Nicola would've got us the best deal possible for him.

Don't need rotten apples in the barrel. As has been said above, its no good having a player who has decided that he no longer wants to be with us souring the moral of the squad.

The only trouble is anyone we are pursuing in the transfer market has just had his value re appraised by the selling club.

Indeed. I'm not as fussed as I would have been had he gone in January. Saturday proved we can do fine without him.

Providing that the price is right, I'm not really that upset that it appears he's off. There are other players in the squad who I'd be more concerned about if they left. There is no doubt that he has great potential and it would have been good to see how he progresses over the next couple of seasons with us. But utlimately there is no way of knowing if he's a future super star or a future Jermain Pennant.

We've showed we can win well wiuthout him, now lets get the money and invest in the team. I'm sure NC and NA are on the case!

This deal is looking more certain than ever. I think it was always inevitable after he went off to the Mirror with his dad. In January I thought it would be awful if he left but now I really don't think it would be that bad. As people have said before he isn't one of our most important players, we coped very well without him in the run in last year and did well without him on saturday. With De Ridder in place we have other options on the right wing and if the reported £7 million plus £5 million in add ons is correct I think that is good business and if we reinvested this money in players like Maynard and a top class CB the team could be better than when he was here.

Thing is that after his head has been turned I believe it would have caused him great difficulty to get back to the day to day grind of the championship.

If he goes it would be best all round as I don't believe he would preform, or would end up with a nice gentleman from an opposing team giving him the 'Billy Sharp' treatment at some stage.

Lets take the money and use it to progress ourselves with a few signings of people who WANT to be here.

Now, if we were talking about Adam..........................

Was injured for the run in too and we were certainly didn't miss him then either. Good business really if we can get similar money for AOC as we got for Walcott, who was our best player at the time and Bale, who carried the team to the play offs in his season here.

Disappointed he's going but there's nothing we can realistically do to prevent it because his Dad's got it all planned out. Hell, I suspect AOC would be quite happy to stay here, at least for now.

What actually worries me more is that it could trigger a major increase in the number of clubs spending big on their academies - and competing for the best youngsters.

Although with another big-money transfer of one of our youth players, our academy's reputation is surely at its highest yet.

As he leaves expect us to announce a big signing either the same day or shortly after. The club are so intent on keeping the feel good factor, and rightly so, that they will be intent on softening the blow. Would be very surprised if we signed Long though.

Doubt it. Smacks of wishful thinking. If we lose Chambo it will be a huge loss psychologically to the team

There is no doubt Chamberlain has talent and it will be realised in the next few years. He will be a big miss but he would have moved on the one of the top 4 before reaching those heights anyway.

We might have rich owners but it is clear they expect us to be run on a good business basis. It is all about trading so if we are going to get a good payment now and reinvest it into the football side I am sure we will come out stronger for it.

We are no more a selling club than Arsenal when a player wants to move on to what he thinks is a better deal. We have stood our ground and fought off the rest just like Arsenal but sometimes you have to bend and look at the greater good for the club.

dont be a ****. they have known he was on his way so its hardly likely to be a shock. Why you come on here other than to troll is beyond me. I suspect you are skate thats here to slowly stir as much as you can get away with without blowing your cover and getting banned.

To be honest i would ban your either way becasue whether a saint or a skate whatever you have to say is worthless.

You're right, capital. Even if others start throwing big money at their academies, they have a hell of a long way to go to catch us in reputation terms.

(E.G. "The Pompey Academy" has the same kind of ring to it as "The George Bush School of Synchronized Swimming")

Am surprised Arsenal are taking the risk on someone unproven even at Championship level, let alone the Premiership

As Saturday proved though, we can do quite well without him!

Just hope it gives Nigel the chance to spend some of that money to strengthen the squad in key areas

Rubbish! You mean like it was on Saturday when we played Leeds off the park WITHOUT Chamberlain? Get real, the lad is good, but the team are stronger.

Not so fast. I've read many of his posts and when Charlie Wayman starts talking about psychological problems I'm inclined to listen.
