Stepgar Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b013ds71/The_Football_League_Show_2011_2012_06_08_2011/ Nice to see that we don't have to wait until 60mins in. You need to get to 15mins 10sec or just after. Enjoy. Oh yeah it was not a penno.
The Kraken Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 Watching it again, the thing that strikes me is just how hard the players work for each other. They're obviously very fit, but the desire to close down and pressure Leeds when they had the ball was very good to see. To be a success in this league, the first thing we have to do is make ourselves very difficult to play against, and we're definitely on the way with that.
The Kraken Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 No pen that. Great to see the goals again. I'm still not sure. My first view of it (albeit from the other end of the pitch) was that it was definitely a penalty. Watching it on tv it's clear that it strikes Martin's chest first. I just think the ball then goes on to rebound off his arm; unintentionally I'm sure, but his arm is raised right up so, if it did indeed hit the arm, it gave the linesman/referee no option but to award the pen.

If you look at the replays it defintely wasn't a pen but you're right - by raising his arm it looked like one and I've no problem with it being awarded. These things even themselves out though and I'll have no problem justifying an equally contentious pen in our favour.
brightspark Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 The penalty probably wasn't a penalty, but Jack Cork did trip Max Gradel around the 65th minute, so ultimately it was evened out by the end. I'd rather have conceded that 95th minute penalty than that 65th minute one!!!

Charlie Wayman Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 As usual the Beeb have this thing against Saints, extended coverage of their beloved Gay Town (BBC, gay...), their fancy pants new stadium that looks like a tin shed and costs 3 times more and doesn't seat as many as SMS and selective camera shots of 'personalities' that just happened to be there in direct line of sight of the cameras (£500, ta very much Des) and then a quick run over our goals taking all of two minutes. Ballacks to the BBC! We'd win the premiership and it would still be a fluke to them and we'd still be last on
Saint Craig Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 That Max Gradel penalty incident was never a penalty for me either. Jack Cork barely made any attempt to obstruct or take the man out and Gradel brought his foot against Cork's leg. Always hated that little **** ever since a couple(?) seasons back when he got mouthy and threatening down on the touchline and the referee had no choice but to send him off.
