It's ok.

David Cameron is coming to sort it all out.

Mixed feelings myself. Part of me thinks it's good that he's actually taking ownership. Another part thinks his involvement will be like pouring petrol on a fire. Trouble in Birmingham is a bit worrying.

its a sad time for the UK...when completely obvious crime and destruction is taking place right in front of the police and they basically stand there and do nothing

sad times

when streets are on fire, the police should not be stopped, worried, scared of using the full force of the law to stop this..

get forces lads on the streets and see what these punks do when the law bites back

also, where are the 'community leaders' who are quick to call the police racist etc...where are they tonight..?

I wouldn't worry, there's a group of what you'd call 'geezers' walking round and stopping what they can in Croydon. Shame that the police are nowhere to be seen.

This is mental.

Can't decide if this can be attributed to general disenchantment (not as an excuse but a reason), or if it's just people being idiots.

watching clips of little skanky birds egging on lads in hoodies to go into shops and get them stuff....is nothing to do with people fed up...just people know they can do what they like whilst police just stand there....utterly embarrassing and shameful...the PM should not need to have come back, the police should be out there stopping this..

really...how. what are they doing...?

just cannot believe police are just watching this.....ridiculous

for once..I totally agree with you

And the Torys think it's a good idea to cut the police force!

F*cking idiots.

cuts have nothing to do with them standing there watching the looters..and worried about using their full force of the law incase they get sued/complained at/bad press etc

hope all these pussy footing do gooders are happy with themselves now.

This is nothing to do with any "Do gooders",its just opportunist criminals who have discovered they can help themselfs while the police do nothing.

Are they scared or just choosing to watch and video?

Either way, cutting their numbers is not the wisest idea is it?

i think Hatch was on about the culture we are now in..any time the police show an element of force so the papers, do gooders, great unwashed cry about police brutality....look at the slating the police got for trying to stop the student thugs...

these people tonight need to be dealt with...seriously...not with the current tactic of watching whos doing what and try and arrest them tomorrow

a spokesman for the MET was on talksport and 5live this afternoon going ballistic about the culture we are now in..where every single time the police in these situations show any sign of force and the complete over reaction and bad press they get...it puts the guys on the front line in two minds/more resrved mentality....he also said he expected to get sacked after his comments but he went right into one and said the police in these situations simply cannot win..

This is ****ing unbelievable. This has ******** all to do with the shooting (nor did the weekend's riots for that matter). I find it disgusting that the police will happily pursue and arrest fence rattlers but not this lot.

Army on the streets by Friday if this keeps up?

This is seriously horrendous stuff going on.

I really feel for the people that live in london, and their livelihoods are just going up in flames for no reason what so ever.

I dunno... They've definitely cottoned on that there's relatively little reaction from the police, but I reckon this has been coming for a while, just needed somebody to start it.

Spot on really. The police have been guilty of over-reactions on many occasions, but it's too easy for the press to pick their actions apart with the benefit of hindsight.

It does seem as though the police are expected to act with absoultely zero room for error, and they no longer seem to know where the line is so they're hesitating.

Can you elaborate? Interesting.

Just saw it on the news, pretty awful **** right there.

The thing is you might understand if they were protesting against something like the financial mess, unemployment, the war in Iraq/Afghanistan/Libya, the cost of living going up, the people who are running the country etc

But it isn't anything like that. They are just a bunch of kids out there trying to cause trouble. As mentioned above the fact the police are doing nothing is disgraceful. They need to get in there 80s style and beat the **** out of these little ****s. Half of the problem is they know nothing will happen to them.

The country has gone too soft.

No excuse, but possibly an explanation. Too many people with nothing to lose.

they all had the opportunity of an education, they chose the easy way, social security handouts and a chip on their shoulder

But do you not think that maybe they are protesting against all that stuff, they're just too stupid to realise it?

If the police make arrests at the scene, because of these do gooders, it means they will spend hours in custody suites putting case files together. These are unprecedented events and there's not an officer around who has any experience of such widespread public disorder.

Half of them are 14 - don't think you can get the dole at that age?

****** - Labour extended the amount of time you can hold people without charge, they could lock em all up if they fancied.

More likely they are just as ****ed off about the cuts as anyone else and want to stick it to the governmant for not protecting their budget and jobs.

I saw on the news a bunch of 14 year olds breaking into Wimpy and taking a monitor. They are not protesting, they are looting. Back in the day looters used to get shot. Maybe that needs to come back in.

It's sad when the deputy of the MET is asking parents nicely to try and get their kids home...

FFS, just order a curfew and anyone out causing trouble is fair game for some lawful force from the police

How does this effect a 14 year old skank?
