Magistrates Association sentencing committee chairman Peter Chapman says it's unlikely any of the younger offenders will go to jail for their part in the riots.

 

"The statistical probability of going to prison for a young person appearing in the youth court for the first time is very low. It would have to be a very serious grievous crime," he says.

 

Mr Chapman says shoplifting, breaking and entering or burning a car would fall short of being considered serious enough to send someone under 18 to jail.

 

Well so much for strong action then lads just help yourselves.

The vast majority of cases wil be dealt with at Magistrates court level sadly (due to the huge volume) and what we'll need to see is maximum sentences.

 

I heard on the news yesterday the exact length this could be but forget now what it was.

 

Does anyone know?

Really worried about England & how this is all panning out.

 

Just watched a bunch of English lads mug 11 Indians in Brimingham.

 

How could 25.000 people just sit there and cheer them on and do nothing to try and save those poor defenceless victims?

No, he suggested I go to Syria, just pointing out, that all this liberal nonsense, that this country puts up with, would not be allowed out there. For the record, I'm against sharia law, but for a more robust form of punishment in this country, a trip to Alton towers for commiting burglery, doesn't cut it for me I'm afraid!

Your clearly evident stunted emotional and intellectual growth is perhaps an excuse for you, but to see the pervasiveness of a revenge narrative on here is depressing and as much a sign of the moron-ocracy in this country as the looters.

Do keep up, I have not said it does, I was responding to anothersaintinsouthsea, who, in turn, was commenting on a response I made to leftwing Johnny. Again, for the record, I am against the regime in Syria, along with several other countrys in this world, alas, I'm concerned about the soft approach to crime in this country, which has allowed groups of individuals to rampage through our streets, in the knowledge, that very little will happen to them if caught.

It's purely because of the art of 'labelling' is either done by children or people with limited intelligence. When applied to people of different inherent beliefs that the labeller doesn't know on a personal basis be it "socialists", "the liberal elite" "the lunatic fringe" "Lowe Luvvies" etc. etc. it only illustrates a lack of intelligence more than anything else.

 

Anyway LOL at this thread becoming another debate about Sharia Law/Muslims/race when the riots have nothing to do with any of these issues

I'm afraid your last bit betrays a befuddled inability to grasp a simple idea. Liberalism, as defined by such layabouts as John Stuart Mill, is broadly the defence of the principles of freedom to allow all forms of freedom of expression so long as those forms do not themselves limit freedom of expression. For some reason, I keep getting lumped in with liberals when in fact I'm a Trotskyist who spends his time making lists of people who come the revolution will be up against the not so proverbial wall, so long as I can keep an axe out of my head.

I think your befuddlement include the lack of a sense of irony. And if, like Dune, you argue for violent solutions to perceived problems with 'race', and advocate ridiculous ideas about white supremacy, then you will be called a racist. It is not a 'group' so much as an affliction.

Reading through some of the news coverage on this, its hard to tell if a lot of the most serious rioters have been/will be caught or if it is mainly the opportunists that came along at the end with the chance to nick something? Most of the original rioters doing the serious damange had their faces well covered up, hoods up etc, I really can't see how most of them will successfully be prosecuted?

How can this be? You suggested i was racist for having Papa Lazirou from The League of Gentlemen as my avatar. Surely you dont just need to be or support violence to be called a racist, just simply having things misinterpreted by superior beings to suit thier agenda can be enough to attain that label.

Speaking only for myself, I actually try to debate the points rather than exercise an agenda against certain posters. I'm more than guilty of being a sarcastic sod on a couple of occasions, but that's normally after I've been witnessed tears and toys flowing out of a pram.

 

FWIW, no-one is on my ignore list and I try to read threads before I post. Again, not always 100% on that one. Still, whenever I see the likes of yourself and Dune playing the victim and crying 'Liberal Elite', pretty much anything else you have to say in that post becomes null and void.

 

If you're a victim of anything, it's your own limited capacity to respond. Don't think it's an intelligence thing either. Just think that a lot of people on here are used to saying whatever they like and not having it robustly challenged.

 

If the so-called Liberal Elite are upsetting you that much, I'd suggest setting up your own forum and spending all day posting and agreeing with yourselves. Firstly, you might not feel as victimised. Second, you won't look like tubes when you post that crap on here.

I suspect it will be the usual case of a lot of bluster about tough sentancing, followed by lots of charges for minor offences with a few fall guys who will be taking the rap for the instigators who they couldn't catch. Followed by back slapping headlines and statements from the police and goverment about how tough they were, what a great job they've done and this sending out a message they wont tolerate this sort of behaviour etc etc.
