Players looking much more trim

Anyone know what the tatts on Lambert's arms say?

We are definitely a very fit side. In the first half we closed down nearly everything, always harried after the ball, and still had enough in the tank to last the 90 minutes. If we keep this up, we will become a very difficult side to break down.

Not only fitter but sharper, I thought. There was a good pace to our buildup which left Leeds looking flat-footed. Whichever methods the coaches were using in pre-season it seems to be paying off. Would appear that this sports science approach really works to each player's attributes- got to be better than just sending them all off to do thousands of laps of the pitch.

I noticed on the OS Gallery, that on one arm he has 'Maison' which I can only assume is his little boy's name.

Agree with this. Hammond and Lallana in particular seem to have somehow picked up a yard of pace.

I thought the only player who maybe wasn't quite yet in peak condition was Jack Cork, who to be fair only joined late in pre season.

It helps having a decent manager

Agreed.

Although you have to credit Pard's for starting our turn around - he put this team together and got us the likes of Deano/Lambo etc, so he did stick us on the right track.

But Adkins just feels such a better fit with the club as a whole.

Completely agree that the players looked sharp and lean... Lambert was the one who stood out the most for me, you could see he was quicker off the mark and looked less sluggish as he started to run, especially when trying to close players down.

The other thing I noticed was in the 93rd minute when Lallana and Hammond were closing players down like it was the 1st minute, despite having done shed loads of running already.

Adkins deserves great credit for this, and although we need to see how the players are after 10/20/30 games, it looks like he's prepared them superbly. It matches my belief that pre-season should not actually be that different from during the season when it comes to training and conditioning. By training every day to a similar intensity, the players get used to how they will be training during the season a lot quicker. Pushing players harder in pre-season, when their bodies aren't yet back to their peak, is more likely to cause injuries.

Frankly, we looked fitter and sharper yesterday than ANY pre-season I can ever remember.
