Turkish Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 is sh*t, he offers nothing, cant tackle, cant pass offers nothing is not a leader and is not up to it at this level. Discuss......
Ashley Grute Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 You know nothing about football if you honestly think that
Roger Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 You know nothing about football if you honestly think that I was gutted morgan wasnt playing but hammond was very good today.
Saint_clark Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 Christ, how can you not see that he was being ironic... I was made up for Hammond today after people predicting all summer that he would be dropped. As for how we're going to fit all 4 quality CMs into our set up - we actually managed to use them all today. Pretty good going.
StVince1966 Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 he had a good game today dont think hes our best midfielder but was strong at times today cracking goal to boot!
Ashley Grute Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 Sorry Turkish- forgot that you are actually a fan of Hammond and you were being sarcastic
Turkish Posted 6 August, 2011 Author Posted 6 August, 2011 You know nothing about football if you honestly think that I dont understand what you mean. We were told this was the case by our experts on here only last week.
itchen_dan Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 Said exactly the same before the game but happy to take it all back, thought he was superb today. Never thought that him and Cork would work together as well as they did and was really pleasing to see Hammond progress quite far forward and join in with a lot of the attacking play and moves. If he plays as he did today, Im more than happy to see him continue in the starting XI.
Pahars_Legend Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 Showed Michael Brown a thing or two about playing centre midfield!
latter day saint Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 tut,tut Turkish. very predictable but spot on
Turkish Posted 6 August, 2011 Author Posted 6 August, 2011 I forgot to mention his awful first touch which will be a massive problem against Championship level midfielders.
The Kraken Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 Turkish, you really are edgy and hilarious, as ever.
sfc4prem Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 F*cking quality today wasn't he?!? Ran his socks off, great passing, got stuck in with challenges left right and centre, won a fair few headers, worked well with Cork and obviously scored an absolute f000kin screamer. Fully deserves his place ahead of Morgan ATM, though we did go 4-3-3 with Chaplow-Cork-Schneiderlin and De Ridder Lambert and Lallana up top. Maybe that's the formation we'll be playing, but with Hammond, Schneiderlin and Cork as the midfield three.
Nexstar Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 Previously hadn't thought he was up to Championship standard but he had a cracking end to last season and was brilliant today. Long may he prove me wrong.
doddisalegend Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 Is it me or did deano look a lot fitter than last season? ....and faster
shurlock Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 (edited) Cork's arrival has definitely helped. He's playing further up the pitch and has great composure. Has allowed Hammond to concentrate on his holding/defensive duties and let the ball players to get on with it. For me, was narrowly pipped to MOM. Anyway, its only the first game and all that - hopefully Deano can show the same form he showed in the second half of last season. Lets not kid ourselves, though, that his form before that was pretty patchy. Edited 6 August, 2011 by shurlock
saints-cris Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 Glad to see people realise the OP was being sarcastic. I sorta assumed Hammond would start today, sure as hell payed off too.
Big_Bald_Si Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 I'm usually the first to get on Hammond's back, but he was wonderful today, great goal and a full all round committed performance. Him and Cork looked good together.
saintmatt Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 Superb player, I just wish people would recognise his contribution when he's not scoring or going forward as much...
CanadaSaint Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 I think Hammond's the sort of player who has that special ability, when he plays well, to enable everyone around him to play well. He did that today not just through his (two-way) play but through his leadership. I think our whole season could revolve around his ability to keep playing this way.

He did that today not just through his (two-way) play but through his leadership. I think our whole season could revolve around his ability to keep playing this way. That's strange as we were told last week he isn't a leader. I agree though, it's no coincidence that generally when he plays well Saints play well.
Rasiak-9- Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 I heard that Leeds had an ex-skake in their lineup. He'd have been playing but he didn't get Hammond's permission to do so.
Leslie Charteris Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 Has Cork's arrival inspired him, or is he extra-motivated to get a start every week? Whatever, he was great today.
CanadaSaint Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 That's strange as we were told last week he isn't a leader. Who said that Turkish? I thought he was knitting things together, verbally and physically, all over the pitch.
ottery st mary Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 Hammond is Captain and first name on the team sheet. Very good reason for that as he gives his all every game and is a vital player for us. WIFM........BY GOD WE SURE DID... Brilliant team performance.... Well done Deano.. Martin played a lot better as the game wore on... Special Mention to Connolly.....ran his socks off.. But Dean Hammond is yer man.....
Turkish Posted 6 August, 2011 Author Posted 6 August, 2011 Who said that Turkish? I thought he was knitting things together, verbally and physically, all over the pitch. Quite a few on here, someone said last week that he wasnt a leader. Cant remember specific names, but he was a whipping boy a lot last season when things weren't going great for us and a lot on here were saying last week that he doesn't deserve a place. I have been a fan of Hammond ever since he joined us and agree with you comments BTW. Think our fans massively underestmate his contribution.
S-Clarke Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 Never doubted him, knew he'd start and knew he'd do well at this level. He's our captain for a reason and he leads by example, as he did all 2nd half of last season.
SNSUN Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 I thought Chaplow was the mutts nuts when he came on. He's probably the central midfielder that is most likely to get a goal for us, but playing predominantly on the right, I thought he slotted right in. With Cork able to play at the back, and Chaplow seemingly doing well on the right, it bodes well for our versitility in these times of 5 subs.
JackFrost Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 (edited) is sh*t, he offers nothing, cant tackle, cant pass offers nothing is not a leader and is not up to it at this level. Discuss...... No it's Richard Hammond that presents top gear Edited 6 August, 2011 by JackFrost

That's what really strong competition does, everyone raises their game when they get their chance.
Bailey Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 I'd started to question him towards the tail end of last season, but today Hammond was top draw from start to finish. A real class above, fantastic performance, topped off with a superb goal. Cork's arrival has definitely lifted him. Had to raise his game to keep his place in the side and that competition can only be a good thing for Saints going forward.
Turkish Posted 6 August, 2011 Author Posted 6 August, 2011 I'm confused. Where are all these people that have been saying all summer that he is sh*t and doesn't deserve a place in the team. Hello?? You must be out there somewhere....
Mewsta Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 What a w*nker for starting a thread like this! Complete cock jockey!
hutch Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 I think Hammond & Schneiderlin will both play in almost every game for Saints this season (fitness permitting). But I also think they'll rarely both be on the pitch at the same time. Great performance from Deano today, BTW.
John Smith Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 Don't think you all want to hear me bang on about Hammond this season. He was slated the beginning of last season, he proved them wrong. Gets stick again this season and has silenced them all within 10 mins, quality. Can we all suport our team this season, would be so much better to hear positive stuff 'before' they mess up. Today was awesome!
TopGun Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 (edited) Hammond is a considered player and person. That's why he is the captain. He's excellent at that. He also scored a great goal today. Turkish is an inconsidered poster who rarely makes rational comments. That's why he is a supporter rather than somebody in charge of things. To start a post, even in sarcasm of others, is silly. Edited 7 August, 2011 by TopGun
Thedelldays Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 He is skipper. He was always going to play. He is a very good player and offers a great deal in the middle What a goal and the skipper stepped up to the plate
Wade Garrett Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 He played well today, as did Cork, Morgan and Chaplow. CM doesn't look like a weak area of the pitch for us.
Cabrone Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 I think Hammond & Schneiderlin will both play in almost every game for Saints this season (fitness permitting). But I also think they'll rarely both be on the pitch at the same time. Great performance from Deano today, BTW. Hammond? Yes. Schneiderlin? No - least not until he gets out of his comfort zone, stops playing square balls in non threatening positions and makes much more effort to link up with the forwards. Can you imagine the reaction on here if MS had scored that goal yesterday? Geez, we'd have 'he's the greatest payer that ever lived' comments on here. LOL. For me Hammond\Cork\Chaplow are our best CMs, MS could be in that group but he's got to get braver first. Superb performance from Hammond BTW.
Chicken With A Banjo Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 I suspect that Hammond isn't the first name on the team sheet, and not necessarily even the first pick midfielder, but Adkins obviously rates him, just as he rates Schneiderlin, Cork and Chaplow. Like last season Adkins will pick the midfield to suit the opposition and rotate it regularly to keep the players fit and fresh.

Like last season Adkins will pick the midfield to suit the opposition and rotate it regularly to keep the players fit and fresh. I tend to disagree. He's Adkins' on pitch captain so he will be the first name on the sheet every week. I was highlighting this last week when the majority of people were leaving him out of their 'starting 11' predictions. I'm sure MLG can confirm that the only time Adkins left him out of the starting 11 last season is when he was injured or ill....
Chicken With A Banjo Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 Not true, he was regularly rotated with schneiderlin and Chaplow. The fact he was on the bench would indicate he was neither injured or ill.

Fair dos. You seem to have more facts to hand than I do (I was just going on memory and gut feel.) Out of interest then, which games did Hammond start on the bench (i.e. when he was 100% match fit and not coming back from injury or illness)? Cheers
Chicken With A Banjo Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 I've changed my mind. you may be right actually.
