Ohio Saint Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 It feels a world different to starting near the bottom as we usually do. It's good to win, but to win against one of the better teams on the first day feels just great!!!
Cascadia Saint Posted 6 August, 2011 Author Share Posted 6 August, 2011 We looked good, Chaplow and De Ridder looked good when the came on, I'm excited for this season! Can you imagine if we get more than our usual 3 points out of the first 5 games?
Ex Ringwood Saint Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 Gutted...should of been3-0. But I got the prediction right!! sussexsaint Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 We have come so far that I leave the game a little disappointed about the pen. Best thing today wasn't the score it was the outstanding professionalism and quality shown. This was without AOC as well.
farawaysaint Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 I don't know what to say I'm not used to winning this early in the season. Aren't we supposed to have a loss followed by about 4 draws before we actually start playing?

jim_bergerac Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 Think we won first game 4.0 v West Ham at the Dell c. 1988/1989. May be proved wrong though. Memory only.
pap Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 Doesn't it go on alphabetical order at this stage? Even at 3-0 up, we'd have been second in the table. I know we could have claimed that we were "joint top", but no table in the land would have shown it that way. So the penno doesn't matter. Not really. Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 Is it me or has the south coast's finest side assumed their rightful place at the top of the south coast tree?! Great result. Buzzing about new season now. Do need a new CB for sure as Martin did ok but too many heart in mouth moments for my liking!

Saint Billy Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 All I can say is WOW!!! No I can't, I thought we looked a really good side, balanced and tight. Cork had a blinder for his first game and looked like he had played for us for years. Guly ran his socks off and i think there was a plan for Lambert to draw all the attention deliberately which gave Lallana some space especially in the first half. Gradel was a threat, complained alot but is a useful player. A long way to go I know, but we are not going to be no push overs thats for sure. alpine_saint Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 Great result. We played some sharp, intelligent stuff. Was a bit worried about the amount of possession we gave Leeds, and the understanding between Martin and Fonte, however.

Wade Garrett Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 Great performance. There looks to be a real spirit within the squad. Never a penalty, I think people are being a tad harsh on Martin. He did well after a dodgy start.
Saintandy666 Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 No-one was more annoyed at that penalty than Kelvin. A massive shame, but great start. Martin proved us all wrong. Currently on a train platform full of Leeds fans!

ulstersaint Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 What's happened? We never start the season well and usually play rubbish when we're on Sky. But that was a great result with 3 class goals - we're on the march.

VectisSaint Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 Great start, we could have blown Leeds away completely today, really took our foot off the go pedal in the 2nd half, and yet still could have had 2 or 3 more. Penalty was a travesty, hit Martin's chest, shades of Oxo at Posh last season. We also showed that we have strength in depth. Only concern with the team is that we still desparately need another CB. Martin was generally OK, except when Harding played him into danger, but we certainly cannot go through a season with the 4 we have, if we lose Fonte at any point we will be ****ged. Only negative for me was the incessant singing of "dirty skate bastard" "song". FFS can't we at least give the opposition of the day some grief, or even better some Saints songs, it was a little embarrassing hearing this time after time especially in 2nd half. wightman35 Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 Great Great win as much as i like Martin i think he was the only weak link today, perhaps just need someone with abit more experience along side Fonte. Is Martin really the "understudy" for Fonte, as he is right footed and played on the left today? Fonte has looked uncomfortable on the left flank in the past. gaz Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 Great performance, looks like the team have a lot of belief and looked calm and composed most of the time. The De Ridder and Cork slotted straight in and D-R's pace will be a great asset. Only negative for me was the incessant singing of "dirty skate bastard" "song". FFS can't we at least give the opposition of the day some grief, or even better some Saints songs, it was a little embarrassing hearing this time after time especially in 2nd half. I picked up on that. Would have been appropriate if we were going to play them next, but we're above them now, they won't be on our radar apart from when we stuff them 3-0 at our place, and 4-1 at their dump.... OWTSGMI is what we're best at.
doc oli Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 sloppy at times but incisive when we needed to be. thought martin was ok on the whole. excellent substitutions by NA. AL & DC showed what class players they are.
smackalec Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 Awesome start. I thought all 3 goals were well worked. Leeds are a poor side though and have been put as relegation candidates by a few pundits. All I've read in the newspapers previews has been 'saints show attacking flair but are frail at the back'. The full backs looked good, fonte was as composed as I've seen and the lad Martin was strong/no nonsense. Really filled me with joy the way N.A has got them playing with so much confidence. dubai_phil Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 First time future Mrs D_P has seen us win while watching in the Pub. Lucky Lucky win (according to the Leeds fans behind us) - said with a big smile TBF. 3 total quality goals. I said it at end of last season and will say it again to those demanding we should have signed 27 new players - We ARE and we LOOK LIKE a FOOTBALL TEAM. It has been many years since that has happened. Martin - an awful moment while we tried to play keep ball, after that he recovered and played very well - look again at the replay of the almost through on goal moment in the 2nd half - he got to the ball before Fonte & nicked it, was also very unlucky not to score. Sure we need better but he played well. Stand out though was one player who simply seemed to be everywhere - Jack Cork MoM for us in the pub. The goals - total quality - we all thought the first was RLSGM the way Hammo battled past the players and placed it so well from 25/30 yards out - Lallana's yup made Messi look... if only he had hit his second chance ANYWHERE apart from at the keeper. Grayson looked like he had been hit in the face with a dozen wet kippers - he didn't see that coming. We had about 10 txt's from Arab mates who watched the game and said WTF this Really Good Team. Deep down had hoped we could put in a performance like that but with history & the like never expected it. VERY long way to go but feck me, what a great start, absolutely buzzing tonight.
