£4m swoop for Burnley duo Rodriguez and Fox?

After Jay Rod scored 4 goals the other night, he got the ball autographed. Why did a team mate write "bye bye Jayrod" on it? Is that the signature of Danny Fox? Or is it somebody in the know that he is offski?

Fox says he didn't know of Saints interest until the day after this pic was taken I believe?

Ask Matt Le God he may know why by now.

btw - PA ability as well as Ca ability for football manager can be seen in the editor.

He scored 4 goals on Tuesday night and got the matchball.

One of his teammates wrote what seems to be "bye bye Jay Rod" on it...

This is why I love this site sometimes! I have been giving a huge Burnley fan friend of mine absolute grief all week on him and Fox… this just destroyed him! :)

Burnley's media manager...

Although he said the same of Mears and Eagles before they went to Bolton, so it would appear the club don't tell their media manager what is going on! :D

Could just mean that they're not actively looking to sell him but if we were to offer sufficient cash, I'm sure they'd take it...

A tongue-in-cheek comment from a team-mate in light of the rumours? Perhaps.

Good spot though :-)

Saints are set to sign Nicky Maynard after they are in advanced talks with Bristol City about agreeing a fee (discussing appearance and goals add ons) while a fee of £5.25million is close to being accepted.

IF Southampton are willing to pay that with no player exchange just hard cash, i will happily drive Nicky Maynard down there.

Southampton look set to make an ambitious move for former everton defender Lucas Neill who is available on a free transfer.

Southampton left-back Ryan Dickson is heading back to Brentford following the Saints' signing of Danny Fox from Burnley.

With a distinct lack of prem interest, Joe Cole is now looking to the Championship to resurrect his career. He has been in serious discussions with Leicester, Saints, and WHU over a move. There was also interest from Forest, but Cole wouldn't discuss a move with them as he doesn't think McClaren is a competent coach.

As of right now it is thought he favours a move back to West Ham, but is growing frustrated at their insistence that they sell one of their higher earners (Parker , Cole or Green) before moving the deal on. Sources say that this hesitation could lead to Southampton winning the race for the England star as he likes their style of play and was impressed with their manager, who sees Cole's mix of technical skill and experience as a potential difference maker in a promotion push.

In other Championship transfer news here are some thins I, along with other itks have heard are in the pipeline.

Leicester - Robbie Keane to sign within the next 7 days

Southampton - Nicky Maynard move to be completed next week as could the signing of Anton Ferdinand.

Burnley - Ryan Shotton as well as Danny Ings to sign imminently Rodriguez going nowhere

Portsmouth - Martyn Waghorn is in discussions after they had a bid accepted

WHU - Kevin Davies and El-Hadji Diouf to reunite with Sam allardyce before window's end

The Echo are saying we bid £4.5m for Rodriguez, but Burnley have said he's not for sale.

So, it really depends on whether he wants to come to us then ???

On second thoughts, because it is being reported in the Echo, I doubt if it is true

Cortese NEVER does transfers in public, they are only announced when completed

Personally, I don't think Burnley can sell him until they've got another striker sorted out. Paterson is injured at the moment and they are quite short on numbers. I'm not sure this deal is dead in the water just yet.

Of course things are only announced once completed; that's something of a truism. The notion, however, that if a deal gets into the public domain we won't complete it has been shown to be carp recently. Both Cork and Fox were unambiguously linked in the media before we announced their signings.

I see what you mean ..... I suppose i's just the thought that the Echo can report ANYTHING accurately..... is hard to get my head around

“The only players we have sold are those who didn’t want to be at Burnley.”

This is the important bit

I feel Sussex Saint's highlighted quotation is the most important element and is simply Burnley preparing, in a thinly disguised manner, for a potential / likely sale of Rodriguez in the next fortnight. As we saw with AOC and with so many other players elsewhere, the minute the player says he wants to go, you pretty much know it's going to happen. Watch this space I suppose....

We are probably 'interested' in both and are keeping our options open. If things don't work out with one then we go ahead with the other.

Exactly. Burnley are just trying to push up the price, or force their player into a transfer request to appease their fans.

Both JR and NM are better than Billy Sharp IMO, either would be a great buy.

Skysports understands Burnley are closing in on the signing of Danny Ings from Bournemouth. Probably were going for him anyway, but could mean they are resigned to losing JRod.

Martin Paterson is out for a long time, so could possibly be for that. At the moment they are really down to just Rodriguez and Austin for strikers. Of course it might be that they are looking to get Ings and someone else, should Rodriguez leave.

Rmour on the Burnley forum that we've gone back with an improved offer - up to £7m.

"It sounds about right to me, Southampton certainly want him and I believe Jay's received an offer from Southampton similar to Fox and Cork, ie far too good to turn down. Why would they not come back and increase their £5m offer, money no object to them."

I hope we don't pay too much in trying to sign Rodriguez, only one good season and still only managed 15 goalsl, no way he is worth 4.5m let alone 6 or 7 mil

He was injured for most of that season too.
