scotty Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 Georgeweahscousin did an excellent overview of the Championship by interviewing a fan from each of the 24 clubs - read them all at http://georgeweahscousin.com. The Burnley fan comments specifically on Jay Rodriguez: "Who is your most important player? Hopefully all of them will be important but the stand out players are Chris McCann and Jay Rodriguez who have both come through the youth system at Burnley. McCann is fit again after almost two years out of the game and at his best is as good a central midfield player as you will find in the Championship. He’s been so badly missed and it will be like having a new signing. Rodriguez, despite the name, is a real case of local boy makes good. He’s just enjoyed his first season in the first team and has become a crucial member of the side. He ended the season as leading goalscorer and not many players in the entire Championship scored more goals than he did. HIs 15 didn’t include a penalty and he could well step up towards 20 goals this coming season. He made an England debut last season at under-21 level and has an exciting future in front of him." Thats interesting. Good spot.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 7 August, 2011 Posted 7 August, 2011 Jay R sounds like exactly the type of player we would go for - develop him for the future in the Prem like Cork. One other point not mentioned so far - this is more or less the same type of tactic NC/NA employed in L1 - pinch some key players from opposition teams. I'm starting to feel we're getting a bit serious about a push for the Prem this season if this comes off alongside a Gorrks deal.
itchen_dan Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 So we are interested in him then? http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/burnley_fc/news/9183114.No_official_Southampton_approach_for_Burnley_striker_Rodriguez/?
Leslie Charteris Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 So we are interested in him then? http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/burnley_fc/news/9183114.No_official_Southampton_approach_for_Burnley_striker_Rodriguez/? Only a newspaper reporting newspaper gossip, so no guarantees there's any truth in it, unfortunately.
Third Division South Days Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 Only a newspaper reporting newspaper gossip, so no guarantees there's any truth in it, unfortunately. Surely the article is quoting Eddie Howe who states Southampton are interested but no official approach has been made. Suggests to me that some communication has gone on between the clubs.
SuperSAINT Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 Rodriquez would be amazing. Top, Top player. Fox is a bit of an odd one....can he play left sided CB? or is he just a LB? Would make sense if he also played at CB i guess. Can recall the name, but never seen Rogriguez play - What kind of player is he?
saintjay77 Posted 8 August, 2011 Posted 8 August, 2011 NA didn't bring in any of our current LBs so maybe he thinks he'd rather be rid of 2 or 3 of them and bring in his own man instead. We've been linked with left backs all summer - he was even trying out young Ben Reeves there in pre-season - so maybe this is an area he's unhappy with even if it does seem odd to us. My Forest supporting mate told me they've still got an interest in Harding (he's not ITK there so no idea how he knows this) so maybe he'll be one to go, if this is a goer. Sure I read Cork was best mates with Rodriguez on a Burnley forum, when the chase for his signature was still on, so maybe he's been putting in a good word for us? You could be right, think I am more worried due to the previous transfer activity in days gone by. We always seemed quite happy to bring people in for problem positions without shifting on those that were not good enough. If we bring in another left back and cant shift Harding, Dickson, Fish and Reeves our squad will look odd and no doubt there will be a few players not so happy on the bus.
Huntingdon Posted 9 August, 2011 Posted 9 August, 2011 Rodriguez scored 4 goals for Burnley tonight I somehow think it will cost us big time to persuade Burnley to sell
supergoose Posted 9 August, 2011 Posted 9 August, 2011 Can recall the name, but never seen Rogriguez play - What kind of player is he? I believe he likes a bit of snooker and the odd game of dominos but I think he's mainly a football player.
jimbojones10 Posted 9 August, 2011 Posted 9 August, 2011 just seen that matt derbyshire is avaliable on a free and is attracting interest from forest, i think hed be a perfect signing and wouldnt cost anything! thoughts?
LeBenali Posted 9 August, 2011 Posted 9 August, 2011 just seen that matt derbyshire is avaliable on a free and is attracting interest from forest, i think hed be a perfect signing and wouldnt cost anything! thoughts? Surprise surprise, Leicester also rumoured to be after him!!
EBS1980 Posted 9 August, 2011 Posted 9 August, 2011 just seen that matt derbyshire is avaliable on a free and is attracting interest from forest, i think hed be a perfect signing and wouldnt cost anything! thoughts? Thoughts? He is having a medical at forest so will be off there. Leicester are after anichebe from everton so hopefully means neither will be competing with us for a forward now.
david in sweden Posted 10 August, 2011 Posted 10 August, 2011 Surprise surprise, Leicester also rumoured to be after him!! you can forget all these other names .. Leicester are buying them all.
SNSUN Posted 10 August, 2011 Posted 10 August, 2011 just seen that matt derbyshire is avaliable on a free and is attracting interest from forest, i think hed be a perfect signing and wouldnt cost anything! thoughts? Would be a cracking signing on a free. He's always been a goalscorer, I'm suprised Blackburn let him go. He just needs a settled place to call home. you can forget all these other names .. Leicester are buying them all. After Jeffrey Schlupp scored a hattrick for them last night, they may have the answer in attack already within their ranks. He was the guy that was on loan to Brentford last season and did so well.
krissyboy31 Posted 10 August, 2011 Posted 10 August, 2011 just seen that matt derbyshire is avaliable on a free and is attracting interest from forest, i think hed be a perfect signing and wouldnt cost anything! thoughts? Confirmed he's signed for Forest.

Badger Posted 11 August, 2011 Posted 11 August, 2011 Had a look at a Burnley forum earlier. Not only are they disappointed that Fox has left, but concerned that Rodriguez will be next, and apparentlt "Eddie..Eddie...Eddie" is knobbed off by the board selling his players.
MerceSaint28 Posted 11 August, 2011 Posted 11 August, 2011 Clarets Twitter is going crazy...jay rod said good bye on the match ball apparently...something is brewing...
Saint-Armstrong Posted 11 August, 2011 Posted 11 August, 2011 Interesting message on the matchball given to Rodriguez after Tuesday's game from the players, he got it as he scored 4 goals: http://twitter.com/#!/naworthy15/status/101780586892500992/photo/1 - See photo here A Clarets fan on Twitter reckons it says "Bye Bye Jay Rod" - what do you think, I'm not certain?
Matthew Le God Posted 11 August, 2011 Posted 11 August, 2011 He scored 4 goals on Tuesday night and got the matchball. One of his teammates wrote what seems to be "bye bye Jay Rod" on it...

Somebody suggested Fox could have signed it, but in an interview he said he didn't know about Saints' deal until Wednesday afternoon.
Colinjb Posted 11 August, 2011 Posted 11 August, 2011 What kind of player is he? Quick? Poacher? Flair? And how would he fit in? The squad seems to be buzzing at the moment, could it disrupt it!?
Saint-Armstrong Posted 11 August, 2011 Posted 11 August, 2011 I was told, he is tall, hard-working and fast, bit of a poacher by the guy who has to watch Burnley and then rate their players for FIFA games.
SaintNeil90 Posted 11 August, 2011 Posted 11 August, 2011 Hmm Maynard or Jay rod then... I wonder who is top of the list!
Colinjb Posted 11 August, 2011 Posted 11 August, 2011 So he would have the 'pace up front' so many on here crave? Frankly, I feel the whole pace argument is a bit over-rated. If we just needed that we would start with Forte every game.
sotonist Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 Somebody suggested Fox could have signed it, but in an interview he said he didn't know about Saints' deal until Wednesday afternoon. It looks like Brian Jensen's signature anyway.
EBS1980 Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 According to the mirror today we have bid £5m for Jay Rod.
sussexsaint Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 Intersting post on there "Another thing to consider - Jay was out and about with Jack Cork ALL the time, I saw them together loads of times and they obviously got on very well together"
sussexsaint Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 Also this one made me smile "30K on every home game, Premiership ground, renowned training facilities, higher wages, more ambition, real prospect of Premiership football, why would he want to go.. " We have come a long way Can't help but feel for them , been there and done that, feels really sh1tty
SaintRichmond Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 So he would have the 'pace up front' so many on here crave? Frankly, I feel the whole pace argument is a bit over-rated. If we just needed that we would start with Forte every game. In addition to pace, you also need Quality and Control ATM, Forte lacks that, IMHO
Wade Garrett Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 In addition to pace, you also need Quality and Control ATM, Forte lacks that, IMHO In the games that I've seen him play, I quite like him. Definitely need his qualities in the squad. He might prove a few doubters wrong this season.
trousers Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 Hmm Maynard or Jay rod then... I wonder who is top of the list! Once again, some great business acumen being displayed by Cortese here, I reckon. When you want to buy 'commodity X' from 'Company Y' express faux interest in 'commodity A' from 'company B' and play one off against the other to drive down the price. I can see this one coming down to a last minute deadline day deal, with Cortese holding the all the aces. Happy days.
scotty Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 In addition to pace, you also need Quality and Control ATM, Forte lacks that, IMHO Didnt jonno quick whack in 2 that put us back in the mk plastics game at sms? When we beat them in the dying minutes?
Dan Johnson Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 Also this one made me smile "30K on every home game, Premiership ground, renowned training facilities, higher wages, more ambition, real prospect of Premiership football, why would he want to go.. I'd be very surpised if JC was on 30k a week!

sussexsaint Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 It did in that quote but they have quoted elswhere saying he was on that
pap Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 Jay Rod looks like a quality player, but I'd be a bit gutted for Burnley fans if we got him. I mean, he's a hometown kid; their pride and joy. That said, if it wasn't us, it'd be someone else. I'm starting to wonder whether Eddie Howe knew the Burnley exodus was coming at the point he took the job. If you are a football club looking to cut costs and get the best out of lower-paid players, Eddie would have the perfect CV after his achievements at Bournemouth.
saint-ross Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 SSN have just echoed this story. I was expecting them to report on Maynard tbh. Either would do for me.
Saint-Reece Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 Tbh, I would prefer Rodriguez to Maynard, don't know why, but I just don't see what the big fuss about Maynard is! Rodriguez is younger and I think has a brighter future IMO. Would be a GREAT signing if we can pull it off, one who would be able to grow with the club.

The fee that was mentioned this morning was £5m. Perhaps Burnley are forcing our hand a bit as a result of the AOC deal? FWIW, footie manager has Rodriguez with a potential ability of 140, thats 5 more than maynard, I beleive MLG said that this is the most important stat. :-)
Ludwig Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 FWIW, footie manager has Rodriguez with a potential ability of 140, thats 5 more than maynard, I beleive MLG said that this is the most important stat. :-) Which will probably be have increased in the latest version if his potential has improved in the eyes of the Burnley researcher (I'd put a lot of money on the fact that he has). Whereas Maynard probably hasn't had an increase in his PA, having been injured for too long, the researcher unable to justify any potential PA rise as a result.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 Jay Rod seems to be more the type of player we would go for TBH. Would welcome him signing f'sure.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 (edited) Burnley's media manager... Jay Rodriguez is NOT for sale! #twitterclarets #clarets 59 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply http://twitter.com/#!/dazbentleybfc Although he said the same of Mears and Eagles before they went to Bolton, so it would appear the club don't tell their media manager what is going on! Saint-Reece Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 Jay Rod seems to be more the type of player we would go for TBH. Would welcome him signing f'sure. Indeed! Young, hungry, something to prove and IF he join us he will be with an ambitious club with a chance of Premier League football fairly soon, as I said earlier I would welcome him more than Maynard! Plus, Maynard may have more injury problems than Rod, although we shouldn't really judge on that...
Big_Bald_Si Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 I love it how we're all calling him "Jay Rod" already. lol

FMPR Posted 12 August, 2011 Posted 12 August, 2011 The problem is most Prem forwards are 140 or higher. Maynard I think is as good as the mighty Nugent on FM
