wasnt it yesterday that the football agent guy on twitter wrote something that suggested we were looking at a couple of players from one club? Maybe this has legs

Hmmm, decent players, don't think we need another left back though. Although saying that Danny Fox looked pure class when at Cov (can't remember seeing him since).

They are decent players but it doesnt fit in with the "we will only spend if they are better than we have already" ethos.

maybe he is better than harding...and I think dickson is not NA first choice anyway

I think Dickson is good friends with forecast. Just saying.

It's obvious the club are happy for fish to leave and if Adkins thinks 1 or both of the other LB's are not up to it...

We just seem to be one of those clubs that target 1 position excessively.

NA didn't bring in any of our current LBs so maybe he thinks he'd rather be rid of 2 or 3 of them and bring in his own man instead. We've been linked with left backs all summer - he was even trying out young Ben Reeves there in pre-season - so maybe this is an area he's unhappy with even if it does seem odd to us. My Forest supporting mate told me they've still got an interest in Harding (he's not ITK there so no idea how he knows this) so maybe he'll be one to go, if this is a goer.

Sure I read Cork was best mates with Rodriguez on a Burnley forum, when the chase for his signature was still on, so maybe he's been putting in a good word for us?

The Daily Mail........... When did that rag last print anything that was true?

TBF, they usually get the date right on the front cover.

Fox sounds like a Bridge/Bale type player. I think we'd need a good left-sided CB to work alongside him. Perhaps someone was thinking of Gorkss...

We dont need fox and Burnley dont need the money (parachute payments, so I assume they are ok).

Thus it sounds like ****** to me.

Looks like this was the ''massive bid for players'' that was alluded too.

We def. are actively looking for a striker too, and only top class championship ones by the looks of it.

We don't need fox we don't need fox we don't need fox.....

But what if he's better than our left backs?

Rodrigues is very good, young and probably not available. Wed certainly ruin burnley signing those two.

He could be better than we have but we have an abundance of left backs. As it is Mills is on the pay roll but doesnt have a squad number. We just dont have room (or a need imo) for another lb.

Rodrigues is another matter. Good player who would certainly add something.

They sold two of their best players recently, Eagles and Mears for a combined fee of £3m. They lost out to us on Cork. Any decent bid for any of their players and they will go.

I know what you mean but Eagles and Mears left for prem football. Cork, understandably, thought we were the better option

I am not convinced they have to sell.

If they were in a strong financial position they would have held out for more than £3m for Eagles and Mears, Premier League club bidding or not.

I don't think Cork had much of a choice, we were the only club in for him. I'm pretty sure that he'd have gone to Burnley if they made an acceptable bid, he was settled up there with his life - but luckily we were the only ones to agree with chelsea, and the rest is history.

I agree with that, would have thought Eagles could have demanded around £3m on his own. If this is true I can see the money being offered very attractive to Burnley.

I can't believe MLG has posted on this thread but completely ignored the request for FM stats. That was an open goal rain man! ( and although we dig you, I'm sure more are interested than not). CA and PA please...

Eagles and Mears are worth at least £3m each, it just goes to show that Burnley are up sh!t creek atm. If that means that we can nip in and get a future England striker (Rodriguez) and a solid Prem/Champ level LB (Fox), then so be it.

All sorts of factors influence transfer fees, ie the wish of the player, length of contract, contract clauses etc etc.

The fact is that burnley have parachute payments so I think it unlikely that they have to sell.

Fox is a good player but do we need another LB ?? I agree the fullback issues are a weak link but think Dickson could find his feet this year.

I think if we signed Fox, Dickson would either play higher up in midfield or go out on loan for the season to a L1 club. He's got potential, but not good enough atm.

Fox is better than what we have at LB, which is how we go about our signings - ones that improve on what we have currently.

Rodriguez would be a quality signing - pace, skill, vision and a great finish.

I live up near Winsford in Cheshire. This is where Fox is from. He is known to be a home boy and can't settle anywhere - this is why he didn't last long at Celtic. He also likes his ale and was regularly seen in Winsford on the pop before Celtic games. I don't think he's right for us and we don't need a left back.

Journalist: "The last thing you want on the day of the game is speculation about some of your players. Jay (Rodriguez) and Danny Fox linked to Southampton this morning."

Eddie Howe: "Yeah, I heard on that. But I don't know anything about it. So... (long pause from Eddie and an "interesting" look) its not ideal."

That is what I thought. Rodriguez makes sense as a signing, not sure we need Fox though.

Rodriquez would be amazing. Top, Top player. Fox is a bit of an odd one....can he play left sided CB? or is he just a LB? Would make sense if he also played at CB i guess.

I've been a huge fan of Harding since he came here, but he had a poor game yesterday and if Howson had tucked his chance away everyone would be pointing fingers at him for getting on the wrong side. I never thought for a second we'd need an upgrade at left back, but maybe Chamberlain makes a mug of him in training too often and Adkins sees the need more than anyone? Very interesting couple of players.

As long as fox is better than what we have at LB then i'm happy. It would only be odd if he wasn't better than Harding and Dickson. And judging by Fox's, Harding's and Dickson's FIFA ratings, Fox is indeed better. We need to be always looking for improvement. Fox has play and scored in the PL for Burnley.

Was there ever a truer word spoken? I'm with the professor on this one.

Georgeweahscousin did an excellent overview of the Championship by interviewing a fan from each of the 24 clubs - read them all at http://georgeweahscousin.com.

The Burnley fan comments specifically on Jay Rodriguez:

"Who is your most important player?

Hopefully all of them will be important but the stand out players are Chris McCann and Jay Rodriguez who have both come through the youth system at Burnley. McCann is fit again after almost two years out of the game and at his best is as good a central midfield player as you will find in the Championship. He’s been so badly missed and it will be like having a new signing. Rodriguez, despite the name, is a real case of local boy makes good. He’s just enjoyed his first season in the first team and has become a crucial member of the side. He ended the season as leading goalscorer and not many players in the entire Championship scored more goals than he did. HIs 15 didn’t include a penalty and he could well step up towards 20 goals this coming season. He made an England debut last season at under-21 level and has an exciting future in front of him."
