Front cover of tomorrows program

The following quote is from Markus Liebherr. I suggest you read it. Then hopefully you won't be such a tool.

Nicola has been pivotal in conceiving the purchase of the Club and making it happen. I am now delighted to entrust him with overseeing the Club's progress, development and achievement of success over the long term. Nicola and I have enjoyed a long business relationship and it was Nicola who convinced me about buying the Club. He then conducted what proved to be a very difficult process very expertly and professionally. Ultimately, it happened because Nicola was at all times focused on strong business and ethical principles. Since our early conversations about the deal I made it clear that I would only buy the Club if he remained involved following the purchase.

Another great post even if a quote, put the other poster in their place. Now where is that top 3 post thread we have a winner!!

LMFAO, that's brilliant.

So many people taking this seriously... fan-on-the-board, I-could-do-better, let's-protest-at-about-a-£1.20-car-park-charge, yucky-the-beer-is-watery types...

It is a masterstroke, I and other Saints fans I know will be buying a programme tomorrow and I would not normally bother......I bet they sell out!!

fan on the board?? What a great idea, this club will never amount to anything until Perry Mcmillan or Richard Chorley represent us.

I absolutely agree. And I'm sure that they'll pop their heads above the precipice again in the future, as soon as the club is in a bit of trouble and they've got something to moan about...

I understand that some people will see it as inappropriate and that the players should be featured, not the chairman but to me it's only a bit of harmless fun. That said, I'm sure a few people wont "get it" and will probably react negatively to him from now in. Most likely the sizeable cacker contingent.

Can't really see where the fun is to be honest, i have seen funnier things and not sure what there is to get? its a football programme nothing more. Hope this is not the start of a RL tracksuit stunt thats all and hope its more of a dig at' Mr Ken Bates 'who owns southampton now not sure' if so Ok but really a bit wasted and who cares anyway

For those moaning that there should be a player on the front -maybe there aren't any interesting interviews from

our players at the moment.

There is likely to be a feature article with Cortese outling plans for the season - wouldn't knock the front cover until you've read the article...

Oh yeah, because it's perfectly reasonable for the owner of a club to put himself on the cover, as opposed to, you know, any of the players, especially the new signings. And it's not at ALL hypocritical to play this down when a certain previous Chairman got no end of stick just for having a training kit with his initials on it.

This is seeing the line, knowing there's a line, and saying "you know what, f\/ck the line". At the point when we achieve something other than being in a League below the one I'm used to Saints being in, then, and ONLY then might someone be able to do this without getting a shedload of flak for it. Until then, it's just dickish self-promotion, self-congratulation, and all-round undeserved back-slapping.

Yes, he saved the club. And now look what it's turning into.

Haha just pished myself at this. Christ on a bike o v e r e a c t I o n

If people think he's publicity hungry and egotistical, I think the evidence would suggest he isn't. Rarely does interviews and is hardly in the national press. One programme cover doesn't really make him a loon, tbf. If anything, it's quite funny, a sort of response to the "Don Cortese" theme. He's not stupid, he knows people probably reference it...

This forum has become plagued with reactionary bed wetters; most of whom are probably twenty-somethings who still live at home with Mummy and Daddy.

I cannot believe that people are calling NC egotistical. It simply beggars belief. He has given only a handful of interviews in his tenure, and has pretty much kept in the background since coming to Saints. He has behaved with a level of professionalism and dignity that we have not seen at our club for many years. Our transfers and financial dealings happen behind closed doors and very little information leaks out.

We have a smart, no-nonsense chairman who has proven financial acumen as well as a first class business brain. He has made an incredibly successful career for himself.

Maybe some of you have forgotten about his background? So here's the Wiki summary.

He was involved for ten years in sports business practice as head of the sports and entertainment desk at various Swiss banks, providing global services to sports and entertainment professionals. His most recent position was as an executive at Banque Heritage in Geneva where he managed the finances of billionaires. He had previously run the sports business desk for Credit Suisse

It's a new season and another new chapter at Saints and I don't know about you lot, but I would certainly appreciate some communication from the Chairman as to the club's ambitions both in the short and long term.

So the chairman has his photo on the cover of the program. That seems like a pretty obvious thing to do if he has written something inside it for the first time. I rarely buy a program but I will probably buy this as I'm interested in what NC has to say. I wouldn't have known to buy it if he wasn't on the cover.

He looks smart, serious and ruthless.

Think of some of the utter tools running other football clubs and some of the things they say and do.......

This needs showing again for the The9s and Hypos of this world that have nothing else in their lives but to find sticks to beat the chairman with.

Agree 100%.

Still think he looks like a ***t tho. I don't know why he thinks football fans will want to see his mush on the front of their matchday programme.

I hope he reappears sporadically throughout the season in a variety of poses. Always suited though. He probably wears one to bed.

For the Pompey home game harpooning a fish

Bending over backwards pulling his butt cheeks apart for Brighton

And the game after we win the title he's stood there smoking a cigar while his massive love truncheon swings loose from the fly.

Hehe, that's a quality program cover!! Genuinely seems like a decent bloke after watching a few interviews on Saints Player, especially the Markus tribute one.

To those slating him for being "an egotistical t*sser", when else has he acted in any way that could be deemed as looking for publicity or attention. In my opinion he's kept himself behind closed doors, and much of our activity as well. If you want an egotistical chairman to slate, f*ck off to Peterborough. Cortese's doing a good job and this is purely a picture of him as the program features a lengthy "Chairman's notes" section.

Ditto

Well trousers I predicted that response. Difference is I think Cortese has done some brilliant stuff but I'm also not afraid to say he looks like a buffoon when he quite clearly does.

The ridiculous cries of 'legend' or similar (when if it was any other chairman in the football league those same posters would be wetting themselves with laughter) just reinforces the view that some have a blind spot when it comes to any sort or criticism of Nicola.

IMO there is nothing at all wrong with recognizing the good that Cortese has done whilst also realizing that at times he has made himself look rather idiotic. This is one of those times.

My view, only said more eloquently. OK, some might see this as a bit of self-promotion, but, so what? No one has been more important in the saving from SFC oblivion and its subsequent revival. He can appear on as many programme covers as he likes, as far as I'm concerned.

If he was stood there in Speedos, however, I might start to worry!

You said no one has been more important. That isn't true.

Which one individual has been more important then? Obviously ML is up there, but he would not have got involved without NC's encouragement. I can't think of many others. OK credit must go to Pardew and NA, but they wouldn't have been involved without NC's input.

My point is that NC has been pivotal in every big decision taken leading up to and since the takeover. That makes him very important in my book and if you can name anyone more important then I will doff my cap to that person and hope that he or she gets their cover moment.

Quite obviously Markus. It was his finance and so he is the reason we are where we are. Nicola is an employee. I find it rather ridiculous that a chairman feels the need to put himself on the front cover of the programme on the first game of the season. It doesn't make him look particularly classy, comes off as extremely arrogant and seems quite distasteful to me as I prefer the football to be the face of the club with the employees kept in the background getting on and doing a good job. After all, he is supposedly a custodian.

I wouldn't bother, Block 5 summed everything up so eloquently, Hypo only see's the bad in everything that is our chairman, my guess is that he has major late fees on one of his library books.

Funnily you talk to the majority of fans, not on forums and they don't see any issues in the man, I suppose TSW just breeds extreme opinions in the bed wetters.

This.

I would wager he won't be on the cover again this season once we have goalscorers/MOTM from previous games to feature.

Still gives an insight into his mindset I would suggest and his large ego. Seems we have heard a lot about Cortese being difficult to deal with and quite a few players pulling out of deals with us.

It does seem a bit preposterous.

I hope it's tongue in cheek by NC.

To my mind, it's a little embarrassing rather than "legendary".

But it is a pretty trivial matter.

Start of a new season

No previous games this season

Chairmans message for the new season inside

People thinking they may get a snippit of the chairmans ambitions/future of SSE rather than a standard stock picture of the football team on the front of the stock programme.

May generate more sales, get the message across.

In all honesty I don't see the massive tantrum that is NC on the front of the programme apart from the fact that as Saints supporters we seems to have a massive issue with everything that is Saints, be it new players/old players/chairman etc etc

FFS grow up and talk about the football

Reported bids for CMS in January. Patred has heard things from discussions with players including those at Ipswich who he works with, rumours on twitter about agents refusing to deal with us, Jemal pulling out of a deal, Gorkss not wanting to join, the letter that Cortese sent the football league chairman.
