Dog Posted 5 August, 2011 Share Posted 5 August, 2011 Going camping this afternoon for friday and saturday night in the New Forest. Does anyone know of any decent places to camp? Maybe by a river, must be near a good pub and hopefully with showers so I can de-cheese in the morning.
saint lard Posted 5 August, 2011 Share Posted 5 August, 2011 No mans land or near the Balmer Lawn Hotel is quite good. The latter has a good bar and nice food and is just by a River.

Huffton Posted 5 August, 2011 Share Posted 5 August, 2011 Good luck finding somewhere, most of the campsites will be fully booked. Red Shoot might be worth a try.
Dog Posted 5 August, 2011 Author Share Posted 5 August, 2011 Thanks for replies. Has anyone been to Ocknell?
The Majestic Channon Posted 5 August, 2011 Share Posted 5 August, 2011 Camp in Holmsley and go for a stroll in picturesque thorney hill
Liquidshokk Posted 5 August, 2011 Share Posted 5 August, 2011 Go a bit further afield and stay at golden cap camp site in charmouth. Stayed there last weekend for second time and it's great. Right next to beach, pub and clifftop walks. Massive field too so won't be fully booked.

I only want to pitch my tent in a pub garden not buy the field.... What's the chances of just turning up and pitching it in the forest?

Saint-scooby Posted 6 August, 2011 Share Posted 6 August, 2011 Acres Down near Minstead has a small camp site, about 20 min walk to eith the Trusty or the New Forest Inn. If you have broken legs there are a few lovely taxi firms that will take you to the pubs
Wade Garrett Posted 7 August, 2011 Share Posted 7 August, 2011 Most of the crappy sites in the Forest (Ocknell, Holmesley, Hollands Wood) are owned by Forestry Holidays and charge a small fortune. Acres Down is cheaper but is a sh*thole, and the bloke who owns it is a bit mental.
Dog Posted 8 August, 2011 Author Share Posted 8 August, 2011 Spent the first night in Everton, and was charged £36 to pitch a two man tent 30' from the showers & toilets with screaming kids riding around on scooters and bikes, and dogs crapping everywhere!! 2nd night went to a very small campsite named 'Mirandas' next to Hordle. It was £10 a night to have a crap in a field and clean your teeth in a bath tub... But it was brilliant!!
CB Saint Posted 8 August, 2011 Share Posted 8 August, 2011 God help anyone who was camping in the new forest last night. The rain was monsoon like.
Liquidshokk Posted 21 August, 2011 Share Posted 21 August, 2011 Where would one go camping with a large group of friends for birthday celebrations? Most places seem to want you to pipe down by 10. Dog, was the place in hordle a "peaceful campers" kind of place?
