hasper57saint Posted 4 August, 2011 Share Posted 4 August, 2011 Mrs.H and I have had our three Grandsons over for a few days. Yesterday as a 'treat' we decided to take them by train to Aberystwyth in Central Wales for the day. Whilst we were sitting having our 'lunch of Fish and Chips' on the Promenade a guy with a foreign accent started to talk to our 10 year old. "What'll Ricky do on Saturday then?" he asked as Dan was wearing his Number 7 LAMBERT shirt (the one with the red sash) "He'll stuff them Leeds people and get a hat trick" says Dan in reply. The guy and his Missus and daughter (An Ipswich supporter) all introduced themselves and he's an STH in the Kingsland (he's just moved from the Chapel). We had a really good chin wag and offered him a share of our chips. He couldn't believe that we could be so dedicated to be STH's from Shropshire. He said "I'll see you on Saturday then. We definitely will beat them" I never thought for one moment that I'd ever see a fellow Saint in Aberystwyth, but as he lives in Highcliff and was up on a few days holiday at his brothers place until today (Thursday) it made perfect sense. See you all on Saturday. Come on You Reds!

fareham saint phil Posted 4 August, 2011 Share Posted 4 August, 2011 I was up in Dundee in Feb and braved going into a pub that was showing "live football on sky", I ordered a drink in best fake scottish accent and sat down to watch us. First goal and of course the "get in there" and "come on saints" flew out in my best queens english. This rather large evil looking haggis basher made his way over, my first thought was whos going to feed the goldfish! and then, I'm going to die for supporting Saints. When he got to me he just shouted "glad to see a fellow Saint this far from home", he had worked on the docks for years, where he switched his love from rangers to Saints, but had returned back to Dundee a year before. Ended up having a great night with the newly formed Dundee Saints supporters club, even the goal give away didn't dampen the night. Moral of the story is "Saints supporters get every where"

revolution saint Posted 4 August, 2011 Share Posted 4 August, 2011 Of course most clubs have supporters in places you wouldn't think but as an aside one of the things I've enjoyed about being in the championship and div 1 is meeting fans from other teams that are down to earth and sensible. There's good banter but no glory hunters and to be honest I've enjoyed the office football chats with Brizzle Rovers fans or other teams far more than the loud mouthed prem supporters. At least lower league fans know their stuff. I met up with a typical Liverpool supporter from Reading tonight and all he could bang on about was how Joe Cole didn't have a good first touch - I'd love to be back in the prem but I'm not looking forward to football talk with deluded halfwits again. You're right about that. I work in Reading and before that Basingstoke and most of the lads in my office were Liverpool and Man United fans. One thing that really grated is when they called their clubs "we". As their support consisted of watching games on Sky when they weren't shopping with their girlfriends or playing golf and taking the p*ss out of the other each other depending on who had lost that weekend and go on about "we are going to win this, that and the other" and sign him him and him. I often got into arguments that they had no right to use the word "we" when talking about the clubs they "support". I suggested that they were in fact Manchester United or Liverpool bystanders. Also their knowledge of football was absolutely shocking, Some even thought Frank Lampard was a good player for England FFS.
Huntingdon Posted 4 August, 2011 Share Posted 4 August, 2011 Last year I had an appointment with a client in St David's in West Wales, and the way back I stopped off to get some lunch at Morrisons in Haverfordwest. Whilst I was standing in the queue, somebody was buying a lottery ticket with Lambert 7 on his back. Golden Balls Posted 4 August, 2011 Share Posted 4 August, 2011 I saw a Saints fan in the Waterfront bar yesterday in Plymouth wearing the blue 'Air Florida' shirt. Also met 3 groups of Saints fans in Ayia Napa in June. We're everywhere!
Saint Thomas Posted 4 August, 2011 Share Posted 4 August, 2011 I got stuck in Weston Super Mare last season for the Plymouth game, and ended up watching it in a sports bar with a Saints-supporting couple - once ran into an older Draper Tools-shirt wearing fan in the South of France too. Was wearing a Le Tiss shirt at the same time, we had no idea how to react from opposite sides of the crowd, so did an awkward little mexican wave thing. Met one in St Lucia as well, our bus driver had a teddy with a Saints shirt on. So yes, we do get everywhere!

The9 Posted 4 August, 2011 Share Posted 4 August, 2011 I once bumped into a bloke wearing a Beattie 9 2001-3 shirt in the Tredegar Arms Pub in Bassaleg near Newport circa 2003, you know, when we were good and had a catchment area that included Bristol and South Wales, as we were the nearest Prem club (give or take 10 miles, and who was counting Villa or West Brom?). CFSFC Posted 4 August, 2011 Share Posted 4 August, 2011 Just to wonder how many STHs there are in Shropshire. I'm another one. Going back a few years now, probably 2003/4 and Saints had more season ticket holders that lived more than 20 Miles away from the city centre other than Man Utd and Liverpool. True story. I suppoe when you look at the nearest sustainable prem club to us was london... Then you think of all the fans from bristol, basingstoke, new forest etc.. Was quite an interesting stat. Turkish Posted 4 August, 2011 Share Posted 4 August, 2011 If ever there was proof of what a massive club we are it is my workplace. I work in Reading and in the office out of about 100 staff, 5 of them are Saints fans. SFC are the club 5% of the world supports. When we get back into the PL with greater TV exposure i'd expect this to go up to around 25%. We can already guarentee the whole of Italy, Switzerland and central and Northern Europe and the Med due to Cortese and Leibhers connections. MASSIVE club. MASSIVE catchment area. edprice1984 Posted 4 August, 2011 Share Posted 4 August, 2011 Living and working in Gloucester. I am in an office with 4 Saints fans (including myself)...out of a staff of 80! In GLOUCESTER! Strangest place I have ever met a Saints fan was at the NY Mets v Houston Astro's baseball at Shea back in 2007. Talking to the wife and the Hispanic fella in front turns round and asks if we were English. Brief conversation about what we were doing here, ends up talking about football. I ask him who he follows and to my suprise and my wife's horror - Saints! He picked them years and years ago (back in early 80's, Keegan and Ball era) and followed them ever since. His kids were all Saints fans and he even went to a game in about 1996 (We drew 0-0), he absolutely loved it. The Yanks all around us were highly amused and we both ended up converting a few to the cause!

His reasoning behind supporting Saints was that when he first came to the UK, he was told to support Manchester United, so he watched them play a team called Southampton, and lost 6-3 so he then thought Saints were the best team ever - GLORY HUNTER!
