Been placed on the transfer list and told he can leave on a free....

'

The relationship between the player and Newcastle has broken down over the last few weeks following strained talks about a new contract.

A club statement said: "Joey Barton has been placed on the transfer list. The player has been advised that he can leave the club on a free transfer."

Barton has also used Twitter to publically vent his frustrations and elude to problems within the squad at Newcastle.

One posting read: "If only we as players could tell the fans exactly how it is, without them above fining us lots of money. There will be a time and a place."

Barton had one year left to run on his current Newcastle deal and was told in May that a new contract would not be offered.

He later Tweeted that Newcastle wanted a "younger, better, cheaper player."

lol....newcastle are going daaaaarn

i would find it highly amusing if they did.

And I can see them giving Blackburn, Wigan, Swansea, Narwich and QPR a good run for their monies at the bottom end of the table (although that's maybe being a bit unfair to Narwich).

im sure super manager pardew will see them alright

I think Norwich will do surprisingly well this season. They have a good manager and made some shrewd signings early on in the summer. Certainly do not think they will be relegated.

Damn! A post of yours that I actually agree with..........

is top 6 premiership level - this has what to do with saints?

Top 6 prem level?...I don't think I'd go that far!

He's certainly a good player but his temperament offsets all the good stuff he does and a lot of teams won't touch him.

According to Sporting Life Arsenal, Spuds and Stoke have made enquiries.

If true, that would be 2 of last season's top 6 interested.

Barton Is a top, top player and would walk in to Arsenal's, Man Utd's or Tottenham's sides. He IS maturing too and would relish the challenge and pressure of playing for one of the big guns.

His agent was spouting off on 5 live this evening. None other than Willie McKay, Harry the Twitch's best mate and brown paper bag supplier. ;)

According to the morose scotch git, he's already had calls from leading prem managers (no prizes on offer there) and Arsenal would have won the league last year if they had signed Joey. This was poo-poohed by 5 live's panel of experts and Robbie Savage.

Good old Pards............lol

I heard that Pardew ****ged Barton and, unsurprisingly, he's not best pleased.

I have to confess that when I heard barton was told he could f*ck off on a free, my first thought was that pards doesnt fancy his bird then....

I would be tempted but I would have concerns that he would be too similar to Richard Chaplow.

Seriously, we already have his type of player. No for me.

LOL yes Barton would come to saints............

Just assuming the impossible did happen. Why would people want another player (Barton) who is trouble every where he goes considering how much they couldn't wait to get rid of Puncheon for his lack of (allegedly) team spirit and general trouble causing ways?

What's his problem , then? He had a year to run, he wanted an extension to his contract and Newcastle said "no, we want younger, better, cheaper". That's football life. They could have asked for a fee for him, but aren't. So he's lucky, innit?

Because he has a certain way of playing against the Skates?

good point maybe these people forget that they only play football for a living when they're demending more money a week than I will earn in a year......

The real quote was "The truth is they want a younger, cheaper, better player but don't want to spend any money... it's genius really haha"

why? We are the best supported club outside of London and Manchester and an unstoppable charge to the champions league, are the most attracctive team for a player outside of the top 4 and have been since we finished 7th in league one, who woulndn't want to join us? It's if we want him but as pointed out by Colinjb, we already have Richard Chaplow and they are quite similar so we'll pass this time thanks.

Not to mention we're the new Millwall off the pitch, I'm sure that would appeal to Barton's nature.

Don't really know why I so readily dismissed the idea of him coming here. Once the stadium expansion is fully completed, it will be like he's never left SJP.
