Attendance for Saturday

I dont know exactly but when i was down the TO saturday they said Itchen North is still closed and it's no where close to selling out. Very disapointing really, i'd hazard a guess and say i'd be surprised if it's anymore than 25k, probably around 22k.

Or, from the glass half full camp, 2/3rds full during the most popular period for going on holiday is pretty good going....

Considering we usually sell out against Leeds, the crowd will include 3,000 leeds fans, so only 19,000 Saints fans and it's our first game back in the championship it's difficult to positively spin such a low crowd.

when games are on sky why not reduce the price of tickets?

We have never done this whoever has been in charge of the club, to the best of my memory. Guess it doesn't help when non-PL clubs only get a small fee from SKY for live games (is it £60K?) , doesn't give much scope to reduce prices really.

FWIW I was expecting the attendance to be about 21,000. The club could barely have done less in the last two months to try and capitalise on the feelgood factor from promotion.

22k is very, very poor.

If that is indeed the gate then it would be very, very poor!!!!

We got a similar gate last year against Plymouth for the opener (21,700), with 2,000 away fans.

I would have thought a couple of thousand extra home fans and another thousand from Yorkshire, would mean a gate of 25,000.

Season tickets will be underpinning our attendances so it will be interesting to see how many we have shifted come Saturday.

How can stating that a fair percentage of Saints fans will be on holiday on 6th August 2011 be described as "spin"? Isn't that just a matter of fact?

It'll be a massive shame if this proves to be true. Hopefully purely down to the Sky and 'end of holiday' reasoning, but we'll see in the coming weeks. Would be shocked if we end up averaging lower than a 25k gate at home as that was achieved most weeks in League One wasn't it?

Still, there's sometimes a better, louder atmosphere with fewer people in the ground (the 'hardcore' influence?) so you can chalk up another mark against optimism. I hope!

Do you really believe that all the 8,000 or so fans who went to the league game against Leeds in March 2010 are all on holiday, have surprise birthday parties or christenings to attend? What about the 28,000 extras that went to the JPT final? Where are they? It was only a couple of weeks ago people were saying we could get 45,000 every week. It seems we cant even get half that for our first game back in the championship against a club which is usually one of our biggest gates.

Just bought mine in my lunch hour along with a few other games. Wanted to get my mate one next to my ticket(Northam/Kingsland corner), and wasn't available, the nearest one was 4 rows and 15 seats sideways away. She said they're going quickly, and that if its not a sellout it'll be very close to one. Sure this is more likely than 22k.

I'll have a guess at 28,372.

I just picked up 5 tickets all sat together in block 38....we're towards the back but i was expecting to be told that northam / Kingsland corner was unavailable. How wrong i was. I reckon a poor 24,312 will be there

Well, I'll be 1,000 miles away watching in some hot bar, one with not too many leeds in it hopefully. The 2 guys I go with are also both away - all gutted to miss this one.

It's only Monday, best part of a week to the match, sales will pick up as the week goes on. My prediction, 25k inside the ground at kick-off, another 5k season ticket holders queueing at the box office complaining of missing tickets.

Why the f*ck the club haven't aknowledged this yet is crazy.

Do you really think there are not more people on holiday in August then there are in March. Leeds is a big draw, as the home games either side of it prove (20k and 21k) however it ain't big enough to get people to change their holiday plans.

I've absolutely no idea. I was just putting it out there as a theory.....

I know, I know....it's a very foolhardy move in SaintsWeb Forum land to put out a theory without first donning a heavy flax jacket and titanium crash helmet.

Those 8,000 "missing" fans is roughly 30%. As a benchmark, take my office, for example. At the moment 3 out of 5 are on holiday, i.e. 60% (twice as many "missing" Saints fans). As it happens, a similar proportion of our customers are on holiday, thus we are able to operate with a skeleton staff.

I therefore bravely/foolishly suggest that 30% of Saints fans (who went to the league game against Leeds on March 2010) not being able to go on Saturday due to holidays is not beyond the realms of possibility.

I could be wrong. I could be right. Hey ho.

To be fair, it's quite a difficult concept to grasp.... ;-)

Just a thought but it is still only Monday! If it is nice weather on Saturday I would expect a healthy walk up.

If the weatehr is good it's likely to affect the gate adversely.

On a hot day in August, guys will be under pressure from families to make one last trip to the beach for the summer.

Pray for rain, and a dull day.

Is that the official guideline for judging attendances at SMS? I really hope we get 25001 rather than 24999

Fair point on reflection i should have worded it better. 22 would be poor 24/5 average and above 27 would be good... is that better ff?

i reckon quite a few tickets will be shifted as the week goes on, and on the day of the game, quite a few fans realise that with no chance of a sell out they can leave their decision until nearer the day of the game and make more of a spur of the moment decision, weather etc. being on sky does mean some will decide to keep their £27 in their pockets for another game.

i am surprised saints don't make a bit more of an effort to drum up support and fill the ground.

average in our playoff season was 23500. The Leeds game was over 30k, but it was a decisive match. Its holiday time, prices have gone up, and championship football just isn't a huge draw.

If you want big gates every week, sell lots of STs..ask Norwich or Derby.
