Following on from Professor's 'Press Predictions' thread, where do YOU think Saints will finish this coming season?

1. Automatic Promotion

2. Play-offs

3. Top half finish but outside play-offs (7th-12th)

4. Lower half to mid table (13th-18th)

5. Just above relegation (19th-21st)

6. Relegation

Whilst I do think we have an outside chance of the play-offs (if we sign a new CB, and even more so if we bring in a better striker than currently have) I think we will finish in the top half but outside the play-offs.

3. 7th-12th

I'm a 3. too, upper mid-table to playoff contenders.

2. Play offs

Can't see why Saints can't do as well as promoted teams from League 1 last season did. There are alot of poor teams in the championship and Saints have a far better team than the one that was relegated and have IMO some better players (apart from Bale/Jones) and better team spirit than Burley's play off team.

Make this a sticky. Hope I'm proven wrong, but at least we won't be relegated, 17th.

You do seem rather massively out of line with the views of the majority, not for the first time...

Literally every other person except one has gone for upper mid-table outside the play-offs.

EDIT : Apart from the post that arrived at the same time as me, and he's even more optimistic.

ANOTHER EDIT : Just for the hell of it, and since I keep asking, can someone find and link or bump last season's thread on this subject ?

You lot call yourselves supporters regardless of the team we have now at the beginning of the season after the January fire sales you should still all be thinking we are the best team in the league will win every game and get Automatic promotion

May be wrong come may but there you go, I still wanted my team to win the league

If you don't all change to 1 you can't be the bestest supporters ever

Ergo that makes me the best supporter even though will not see a game until sometime next year :)

4. Lower half to mid table (13th-18th)

I can't help but feel most people are being blindly optimistic (but I have a low post count so whatever, my opinion doesn't count)

A "2" for me.

There are a number (imo 15) teams who think they can get into the top 6, we have the following advantages

Reasons :-

(1) "team spirit and togetherness" = 6-8 more points

(2) Good manager who will play a number of systems and can change during a game = 6-8 more points.

(3) Adam (most skillfull player in the league) and Alex (quickest).

(4) 2 good players for each position (some other teams have weak backup players).

12th. Which would be a decent effort with the strongest NCP for years. Norwich had a real go last year and brought in top quality loans towards the end of the season because they could see Cardiff and Swansea faltering and they knew with West Ham coming down and Leicester unlikely to make the play offs last year but likely to spend big this summer this was their best chance for a few seasons. So it would be harsh to compare us or Brighton with last year's promoted sides.

We'll be a threat going forward and should be good viewing. We look as strong as anyone in CM and good wide options too. Rickie will carry on scoring IMO but not sure if Barnard will be as regularly on the scoresheet but hope I'm wrong. If those two get injured, with Connolly it is a case of "when", we may struggle for goals. Left wingers will enjoy playing against us, Butterfield was a very good player in League 1 but will get murdered for pace next year. It'll be interesting to see if Richardson gets any better with a full pre-season behind him, he was very sluggish last season when he appeared. If Jack Stephens is right footed, he'll be in the first XI quite quickly as a result. Left back we're okay on, Harding has 100+ games at this level and Dickson will do better than people think. Season too far for Jaidi IMO, Martin needs a longer loan and Seaborne has potential but needs more L1 experience let alone NPC so need Jemal's work permit sorted soon. Fonte staying fit and in form will be pivatol.

3.

The guardian article in the press predictions thread highlights what we are up against. I don't think we're going to be too far away from the play offs but I think this will be a season of consolidation, followed by fine tuning next summer.

2. for me.

I can see us around 12th at Christmas, and then some investment in January in areas that we are looking weak should see us make a strong late surge and finish in the play-offs.

3. For me.

Get ourselves a good centre back and that will ensure that we are at the very least on the fringes of the top 10. My mathematic predictions however (which I posted in another thread) had us just outside the playoffs.

Posted

2. I'm thinking top three judged on our playing squad and manager, plus teams like Leicester can't expect to assemble a unit like we have had playing together since around 09/10.

Too many big teams in this division pushing for promotion who can outmuscle us with the players that they can attract.

Not questioning your opinion, but I do question this.

Leicester? Birmingham? Nope

Leeds? Yep

Middlesbrough? West Ham? Maybe

From my 40+ years supporting Saints, in the "big club" stakes I'd put us below Leeds, on par with Forest, Derby, West Ham and Boro, and bigger than the rest, including Leicester & Birmingham.

No one going for automatic?

No surprises there then...the 5-year plan on track but it would be fantastic to mirror Norwich's achievements of last season.

Extremely fantastic given that only 2 promoted third tier sides have gone straight up automatically in the past 20 years and the other was about 20 years ago...

'MLG Mode enabled'

How about Graham Taylor's Watford at the end of the 90's?

I believe that was the other time, actually. I did say "about 20 years ago".

That prediction is about right, although i think it may be about 18th.

Again, spot on with my own predictions. We have failed to make significant signings to strengthen. This lack of decisiveness in early summer could prove to cost us dearly. Although i have been lambasted throughout the summer i stand by my comments.

just a few hours and you have us a place higher - at this rate by the time we kick off against leeds you will have us promoted!

I think the point is that there's basically nothing suggesting that we couldn't "have a real go", or bring in "top quality loans" either.

I think it will be a very tough season and our midfield/defence looks a little frail/light to me. So I think we'll finish lower mid-table

last time we were in the NPC i predicted Wotte would keep us up.......better stay quiet here

There's a first time for everything I suppose!

Of course i want Saints to win the league. My greatest wish is to see them European champions. However, my prediction for next season are about how i see next season. 17th would not be so bad in a league we have just been promoted too. We have made modest investments into the squad and NA is obviously building slowly. I think we will achieve success but not this season. We all need to be patient as i think it could take 3 or 4 years before we are ready for the premier league.

Correct, I have made a slight adjustment upwards all things considered, but nothing too drastic ! I have now nailed my colours to the mast. 17th.

It will be interesting at the end of the season to see these predictions again.

This is a very dismissive comment to what I feel is a reasonable statement.

modest investment....is not when we have kept everyone and nearly..or ALL other teams have lost at least 1 of their best players..
