Cumbria Saint Posted 28 July, 2011 Share Posted 28 July, 2011 If you’re a Saints fan there’s an extra pre-season date for your diary this week, as ‘Herbie and the Saints’ comes to Southampton. The play has already been performed to critical acclaim in Stroud and is now about to hit the theatres of Southampton. The play is been performed TONIGHT (Thursday 28th July) at The Berry Theatre in Hedge End and at the Nuffield Studio on Saturday 30th July. Both performances kick off at 7.30pm. Written by Saints supporter Philip Douch and performed by an all-professional cast of talented actors and singers, the play celebrates the transformation in the club’s fortunes over the past two years. Seen through the eyes of four loyal supporters, including a character representing real-life Fan of The Year and stadium guide Herbie Taylor, the play is full of laughter and songs. ‘I wanted to write a piece about the Saints and about what it’s like to be a fan’, says Philip. ‘The ups and downs; the bad days and the good days. So as well as the rocky ride from administration to promotion there are fond and funny memories of the Cup Final, Mick Channon, Gordon Strachan and a selection of ex-Saints as well as grateful thanks to Markus Liebherr.’ With a wide range of specially written songs recalling the appointment of Nigel Adkins and his favourite pet phrases, the extraordinary one-footedness of Fabrice Fernandez, and the frightening tackles of cult heroes like Jimmy Case and Mark Dennis, this is a great night out for anyone who supports the Saints! Tickets (£12 - or £8 concessions) are available in advance or on the night from http://www.theberrytheatre.co.uk (Tel. 01489 799499) and http://www.nuffieldtheatre.co.uk (Tel. 023 8067 1771).
