Davis Signs new deal

The only contract Bart should be worried about is his own, this doesn't affect him in either a good or bad way... If Bart is deemed good enoguh, he'll also be offered a contract at the appropriate time. And if Bart is deemed worthy of a chance ahead of Kelvin, contracts won't come in to it.

Anyway, good news that so many players are committing (for what contracts are worth!).

Adkins' comments are good IMO, and typical of his psychology:

"He has a lot of strengths not only as a goalkeeper, but as Club Captain too, where his great leadership skills and personality come to the fore," the manager explained.

"His professionalism is an example for the rest of the dressing room to follow, and he is a firm part of the vision put in place by Nicola Cortese for the future of this great football club.

"Kelvin has so much Championship experience behind him and he's played in the Premiership as well. We've allowed both Kelvin and Bart to have a balanced pre-season in terms of game time, and I'm ever so pleased with the progress that they have both made."

That suggests to me that Adkins views the situation very much that both keepers have a part to play and that like any good business, Bart is part of his succession planning, as long as he continues to learn and develop. Kelvin's contribution to the club goes far beyond simply what he does on the pitch, which is in keeping with the club ethos overall.

Don't know why people think this affects Bart. If Kelvin were to leave, it's hardly like he'd have the GK spot all to himself. We'd only go out and sign another 'keeper, probably younger and better than the two we have now. It's not as if Kelvin is guaranteed to play just because he has a contract either. If Bart is judged to be better, he will get picked.

Who was it that said Morgan had apparently told the hierarchy that he would see out his contract and return to France?

Was it Leftback?

I think he did, he may also have hinted that Schneiderlin may have wanted to go back to France last summer (St. Etienne rings a bell for some reason).

24. 24. He has hardly started as a goalkeeper ffs.

He should have a good 10 years in him yet. I feel bad for Bart, he's a decent keeper, (probably too good to be mere backup,) but he's being kept out of the team by the more experienced Kelvin. I really hope he makes his name here and we don't end up playing him one day as he's also a great guy from what I've heard.

no news feels like bad news regarding him. I'd like to hear someone ask NA about it.

If everyone messages @solentsport on twitter to do this then I'm sure they'll bring it up in the next interview

I met morgans agent (Although I didn't know it at the time) with Rupert Lowe. When I was told who he was I googled his name and he looks after some serious players and is obviously very well connected with some of the bigger clubs. He questioned me on what I thought of morgan and his injury (At the time) and proceeded to tell me just how good MS really is. I would imagine he will be touting him around whenever he is allowed.

He certainly wears his Southampton heart on his sleeve. Genuinely decent bloke. Lot of respect for him. His loyalty reminds me of Le Tiss.

Every time I read something like this I havea flash back to Sheffield Wednesday a few seasons ago when they hammered us about 5-0 half of which were Kelvins fault the crowd got on his back and he ended up giving us a 'nice salute' this place was baying for his blood after that. He's performed an amazing turn around!

Is that that the match where he had a couple of our players by the throat at halftime because they did not care enough. 1 was a foreign centre half the other if i recall correctly was a player who took a long time to sign for us.This was in the relegation from the CCC season and so may not be the 5-0 game

Well I'm happy about this news anyway. He's good enough for us, for now. Something of a character as far as I'm aware and it's worth having people like that in the camp.

Apart from anything else it suggests that Southampton FC is a decent place to be right now, which can only be good for team spirit and togetherness.

small print: please come and get crosses a bit more, and communicate with the defence

Just found out that he is moving in 2 doors down from me so will try to have a word. Might also suggest some kicking practice over the park.

Wasnt there a match when a few fans jumped on the pitch and confronted him?

Definitely, maybe, outfield players peak at 28, goalies a bit later (30 I think), so time is on his side at the moment.

He has indeed got time on his side, but he needs to get some proper game time. 30 first team appearances (anywhere) over a period of 5 and a half years is not what any of us would have expected when he first broke into the team.

Of course I want him to stay because he's a talented player, and in some respects he's the ideal number 2 keeper to have because he seems content enough to accept that role. You have to hope that he's picking up a lot of tips from KD and the rest of the coaching staff, but I just worry that he hasn't kicked on since his knee injury.

I think he could do with an extended loan somewhere just so that he can get some experience. It can't be much fun sitting on the bench week in week out can it?

Anyway - pleased to see KD has signed up, you can tell he wants to be here and that can only be a good thing.
