Saint Garrett Posted 28 July, 2011 Share Posted 28 July, 2011 Anyone going ? Surprised ticket details havent been released yet. I will be going with a few mates I think. Football Ground Guide says.... Away fans are housed in the new North Stand, where the facilities are good. The normal allocation for away supporters is 2,000 tickets although, if demand requires it, then the whole of this stand can be allocated (6,000) So could be a good away following - would have thought we'd get a couple of thousand up there. Colinjb Posted 28 July, 2011 Share Posted 28 July, 2011 Went up there back in 2006. Barnsley is a dump but Oakwell itself is quite a nice ground. There are three modern sides and a totally decrepid old 'main stand' along one side of the pitch. Not dissimilar to St Andrews really.
Saint Garrett Posted 28 July, 2011 Author Share Posted 28 July, 2011 I went up there to watch Forest season before last, strange because their is a leisure centre where people are going to the gym etc, and loads of people drink in the bar before the game becuase it's next to the ground ! Yeah, that was odd. I parked in the town without realising you could park just outside the ground by the Leisure centre. Was a great atmosphere in there. Sheffield United v Liverpool was on the tele...... not sure why I remember that.

Griffo Posted 30 July, 2011 Share Posted 30 July, 2011 We'll be lucky to get 2,000 there. Between 1,000 and 1,500 is my guess. We only took 600 there last time but it will be more appealing this time because it's the first away day.
Saint Garrett Posted 30 July, 2011 Author Share Posted 30 July, 2011 Would like to think we'd get 2k for first away game. West Ham are playing donny the same day and sold 3000+!!
Saint Fan CaM Posted 30 July, 2011 Share Posted 30 July, 2011 Will be going and taking my two lads up with me. Will probably take the coach as it's got to cost more than £75 in fuel and we can all have a tipple or more. (: Will be the furthest I've travelled for an away game actually - can hardly believe it's only two weeks away! 0:

Not a great game, but their fans got behind them once they got on top. Northern games always get 1000 as there seems to be about 800 Northern fans that go to every Northern game and then at least 200 from down south join them no matter what. The leisure centre bar was a terrible place to drink. It was souless. The only thing going for it was the closeness to the ground. Anyone find a better drinking hole elsewhere last time? The figure at the time on the OS was 600 and being at the game that seemed about right. As for drinking, stay out of Barnsley. Sheffield is your best bet. There must be a few boozers in Barnsley surely?http://www.footballgroundguide.com/barnsley/ I have been to pubs in town centre and near train station in past. I wasn't wearing colours though and in the past the police have not let Saints fans arriving by train into town and made them go to designated away pub. Can't remember pub near the ground was in last visit apart from the fact they served all spirits in miniture bottles?

They have the novelty factor this season of being a big fish in a small pond. Imagine they'll take good numbers everywhere. If they're still playing Donny away in a couple of years time, they'll struggle to take half that.

If they're still playing Donny away in a couple of years time, they'll struggle to take half that. There is also the fact that most West Ham fans will have never visited Doncaster Rovers. There is likley to be a few grounds they have not been to so you tend to get more people make an effort.
Saint Garrett Posted 31 July, 2011 Author Share Posted 31 July, 2011 Sheffield is indeed a top night out so it helps having my uni house there! Be going up and making a weekend of it, staying in Sheffield til as late as possible then heading over to Barnsley. There's some good pubs around the train stn in Sheff so can just hop on a train over to Barnsley. Very much looking forward to it! Fingers crossed for 3 points and top of the league by then!
