Two New Players

Saint Charlie

Recommended Posts

Adkins has said in a few interviews now we will see one or two more players in. Assuming one is a central defender (Jemal maybe) then hopefully the other will be a striker who runs in behind. I feel this would then give us a great squad to do pretty well in the Championship.

He said he would strengthen he spine of the team which would indicate a striker as the last signing, plus we can obviously supplement with loans of needed.

If we cover those two bases then IMO the weakest areas we would have are full back and GK, both of which are still more than good enough for this league.

Its looking good....if the two new boys are as good as the two brought in so far!

He did say one or two, but that was before de ridder. Dont be suprised if thats it for the start of the season.

Actually in his latest interview he mentions "one or two". This is definitely after De Ridder signed as he is asked about how he's settling in.

We just need a top CB to partner Fonte - that's all and we've got a fantastic squad that can make a big impression on the NPC. I don't care if don't go up - I just want this squad gell, develop a strong team spirit and stay together. Slowly, slowly catch the monkey. (;

I completely agree with that. .Well said my friend. Mind you, I'd love us to go up as well!

Good post. We're only a CB short. De ridder offers pace up front and a move to 433 would give countless options.

This could be an exciting season.

Good post and couldn't agree more. A well assembled squad with a strong team spirit and good understanding between each other can be more than enough to open up and beat other teams who on paper can appear to look stronger.

I'm really looking forward to see how we mix it up against the other Clubs expected to be in the top six this season. I'm hoping we can be one of them but will wait until we settle into the season before making a prediction as to where I think we'll finish.

I think we stopped at the bus stop but the people expected to get on had already taken a taxi before us.

Ok - Who did we need to sign then? What positions need to be strengthened? How many players did we need?

3 of 4 IMO, and it looks like we'll get 3 of 4 (the 2 we have are top top quality too)

adkins confirmed to solent after wba game that one more player definately coming in plus hopefully another, both before leeds game.

solent also said that a fan yelled at Mark Chamberlin about keeping Alex at Saints and apparently his dad yelled back saying he wont be going anywhere now as he has done his ankle in.

I bet his dad is gutted, no cash for him.

FWIW Chambo was in the tunnel on crutches after the game

Which sounds like a dig at Adkins for playing him in the first place.

A masterstroke by our Nige: play chamberlain and tell him to get stuck in ergo more chance of a niggling injury.

That's a done deal IMHO, work permit permitting.

Seems like the Jemal deal is done and dusted really. For Adkins to be so sure that someone is definitely arriving but not being able to announce anything must mean it's a bureaucratic delay rather than a problem agreeing a fee or convincing a player to get on the bus.

Really ? and when might that be ? I was told it would be in late june, then early July, then mid July, then late July and possibly early August, or mid August or even late August, possibly September or even the January window.....

Answer my question, which you continuously ignore - so it seems as if you have no answer and are just a troll.

Adkins apparently stated on Solent this morning that two more should arrive before Leeds. Add that to the two we already have, that makes 4 (I know, my maths is **** hot isn't it?)

Analysing the exact timings of signings is, IMO, petty and pointless. Adkins said he wanted to make some additions, he is doing so, and I believe he has earned my trust, so I'm happy.

Yeah - and the apparant quality of the two so far shows they are targetting the right players - who are as good or better than our existing best players!

Total trust in NA and NC and the wonderful talent and identification setup we have at this football club. Together as one.

I was going to ask how those people that were unhappy at the summer transfer moves earlier in the summer feel now after making the two signings. You (Dalek) seem to be less than impressed. How do others that felt we were too slow or not active enough now feel?

We could field two teams that from our squad that would be more than capable at this level. We have a lot more depth than we have had in recent years. Not to mention the signing two brilliant additions and the possibility of two more(I assume a CB and ST).

There may have been numerous reasons why we didn't sign players instantly. First choice or not, I'll judge by the quality not when the arrived.

Dalek, do you just expect us to just buy players for the sake of buying them, as someone else said, if you wanted this go and support Leicester...or just go follow Hoddle with whatever he is doing now. Yawn, Try looking on the bright side for once and thinking that we have a superb young group of players who are hungry for success and we have a good vibe throughout the whole squad! Anything is possible. I'd rather we signed 2/3 good players who will improve the group but fit in, than 15 new players and then just throw them together.

Crickey, @jordansibley and @mrsimonwilliams sure picked a hectic day to leave me in charge of the office! I think they do it on purpose...

The gelling argument is all well and good. But what happens if we have a decent season, and narrowly miss out on going up? Our players are in the shop window, so some Premier league teams come sniffing around the likes of Chamberlain, Lallana, Fonte etc etc. Those are key players for us, and if we lose just one or two of them then it really affects the team harmonic. Assuming we'll keep all of them if we don't go up is perhaps unrealistic.

of course, we'd likely replace them, but then that negates the whole "gelling" argument.
