This Charming Man Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 Surprised there's not a thread about this already. Some cheap train tickets still to be had. Would be nice to get 2k up there seeing as it's the first away of the season. Then again, the vast majority of our support start to get nosebleeds if they go further north than London.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 I was gonna drive this one so if you can find cheap train ticks please post on here.
This Charming Man Posted 27 July, 2011 Author Posted 27 July, 2011 I just booked £30 return from London, 1st Class as well. That was with a railcard though. Have a look on East Midlands website, them and Virigin have the cheapest fares atm. Have a fiddle as well and look at trains to Donny. A ticket on the day from Doncaster to Barnsley is peanuts.
LGTL Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 5 of us going up on the Friday night, looking forward to it. Been before, nice place....
This Charming Man Posted 27 July, 2011 Author Posted 27 July, 2011 Just checked and we're a Cat B game for them, so tickets will be £23.
This Charming Man Posted 27 July, 2011 Author Posted 27 July, 2011 Should be some point next week, I would imagine.
stevegrant Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 The one time I saw us at Barnsley (2-2 draw, Rasiak scored both), there were no advance sales, only cash on the turnstiles. Hopefully won't be the same again, particularly looking in advance for in-demand away games.
Appy Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 I'm sure when we drew 2-2 in 07/08 there were advanced sales. Managed 26.20 return from London, with first class.

jjsaint Posted 28 July, 2011 Posted 28 July, 2011 Can't make this one myself. Waited too long for train tickets, now they're silly money.
CFSFC Posted 29 July, 2011 Posted 29 July, 2011 I got train tickets to sheffield for £42 ( not great but ok ) 3 of us meeting one other in Sheffield. Will stay in Sheffield for drinks as Barnsley is awful for a pint isn't it?? Plus the police stick you in a leisure centre? minus sweaty bits of northern sort in lycra coming out cant see that being that decent.

Few decent boozers in the town centre and the usual Spoons and the like. Sheffield is a much better option though.

saintscottofthenortham Posted 29 July, 2011 Posted 29 July, 2011 I have a car full now so shall be hitting the open road bright and early for this one.
JRM Posted 29 July, 2011 Posted 29 July, 2011 Who do wednesday or united have that day? I hate all yorkshire teams so hoping we batter the clowns. Blades, whose ground in close to the station, are home to Brentford that day. chesterfield are home to stevenage anyone going up via Doncaster will be sharing the train with west ham who are going up there.

Imagine it will be a dry train as well?
This Charming Man Posted 29 July, 2011 Author Posted 29 July, 2011 Just checked and my train goes via Leicester/Derby/Chesterfield, therefore should be able to sink a few Bows on the way up.

Pompey waited at Doncatser once when they had sheff utd away, i was 15 the old man and me took a hiding on the way back from newcastle. Best skate mob ive ever seen. Still doing an old man and a 15 year old sums them lot up.
Griffo Posted 29 July, 2011 Posted 29 July, 2011 Just checked and my train goes via Leicester/Derby/Chesterfield, therefore should be able to sink a few Bows on the way up. Are you on the same one as us?
This Charming Man Posted 29 July, 2011 Author Posted 29 July, 2011 Are you on the same one as us? No, I'm going from St Pancras. Think we'll be bowling into Sheffield around the same time though.
Sour Mash Posted 29 July, 2011 Posted 29 July, 2011 Imagine it will be a dry train as well? SHouldn't be and if it is, easy enough to get around.
This Charming Man Posted 29 July, 2011 Author Posted 29 July, 2011 SHouldn't be and if it is, easy enough to get around. I remember some West Ham on the England forum a while ago moaning that virtually every Northern bound train is dry for them. As you said though, plenty of ways of getting round it.

Griffo Posted 29 July, 2011 Posted 29 July, 2011 I seem to remember Oldham away being a dry train in our first season in League One.

CFSFC Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 I was ticket number 13 - Hoping that isnt the ammount sold.
Nexstar Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 I was ticket number 13 - Hoping that isnt the ammount sold. I got 8 and 9!
CFSFC Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 I got 8 and 9! Looks like that is the number sold then....
Sour Mash Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 Looks like that is the number sold then.... No chance. We will have sold a few hundred by now. Just depends whichever book of tickets they've picked up to send out at a particular time. I know of more than 13 people that already have their tickets for this.

This Charming Man Posted 3 August, 2011 Author Posted 3 August, 2011 Be suprised if we sell over 1000 though. I reckon we'll get just over 1k, first away and all that.
CFSFC Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 I reckon we'll get just over 1k, first away and all that. Which is still quite pants, a good result at the weekend and a thumping win v Torquay will also help.

A couple of seasons ago a few of us were taken to a half decent pub in the town not too far away from the train station by a friendly Tyke (admittedly did wonder if we were being set up at first!!) Sorry can't remember the name but landlord was a Wednesday fan so didn't mind away fans coming in!! A bit later mates of one of the lads with us pitch up at the station and got a police escort to the souless liesure centre!! Spread out I guess and don't draw attention to yourselves or hire a whippet and a few ferrets for the afternoon to blend in!!!
JRM Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 Which is still quite pants, a good result at the weekend and a thumping win v Torquay will also help. sheff wed and huddersfield and carlisle were all almost exactly 1000 last year, that seems to be a standard away northern following at the moment, with Ipswich a few days later can't see it being more than that.
saint_bert Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 Will get the tickets fo this Saturday. Bingo bus it will have to be. Ipswich on the Tuesday will be fun though.
Appy Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 Which is still quite pants, a good result at the weekend and a thumping win v Torquay will also help. One thousand to Barnsley whenever is not pants.
JRM Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 One thousand to Barnsley whenever is not pants. depends what you compare it to, west ham taking 3300 to Doncaster on the same day, so compared to that it is.
Dan Posted 3 August, 2011 Posted 3 August, 2011 Looks like that is the number sold then.... My ticket has number 8 on it.
This Charming Man Posted 4 August, 2011 Author Posted 4 August, 2011 One thousand to Barnsley whenever is not pants. It is when you consider the size of our home gates.
CFSFC Posted 4 August, 2011 Posted 4 August, 2011 One thousand to Barnsley whenever is not pants. If it was reading/brighton/pompey/any rubbish london team. Then we'd take full allocation.. yet 2 hours extra up road we lose 3000 away fans near on. That to me is pants.

CFSFC Posted 4 August, 2011 Posted 4 August, 2011 London to Yorkshire in 2 hours? HA. Well its 4hours on train to Sheffield. 2 Hours to London HA
Nexstar Posted 4 August, 2011 Posted 4 August, 2011 Well its 4hours on train to Sheffield. 2 Hours to London HA But it's not just an extra 2 hours though, is it? It's an extra 2 there and 2 back, people would want to compensate for the chance of traffic on either the M1 or M6 and so would be looking at an extra 5 hours travelling in comparison to a London game. Added to which I can get a return to London for £22 on the train, whereas it costs double that to get to Yorkshire. London games are therefore easier to get to, cheaper and generally more fun as there's plenty of choice as to where you drink.
saint_jas Posted 6 August, 2011 Posted 6 August, 2011 For some reason I decided not to bother with this game... (didn't realise train station was so close, me being a lazy git) Just bought a ticket, so be up there next week, can't wait
