yay i got a reply to my phishing FB message to our possible new CB.....from Ammar Jemal two minutes ago....."Thank youuu its a pleasure for me..".

Insightful....I said "bienvenue a Southampton Ammar ...le premier equipe del sud de angleterre avec les fans plus fidele, loyal et bruyant des toutes....crap french i know but you get the point....if its genuinely Ammar it would be pointless replying unless he means it...if its a pleasure for him its not "im not coming" is it....

I take it as a positive pointer that unless some horrid wind up merchant has hijacked his FB site that we might have a new CB on the bus soon.

Get over there with the Ferrero Rocher, but try not to scare him.

Not sure how true, but I'm hearing we've rejected their offer and are only willing to sell for cash. Still holding out for around £1m.

Which is why I think he'll still be here at the end of the transfer window, and will go out on loan or something. We've put an unrealistic price on his head and clubs don't want to match it. (we're well within our rights to do that though tbf)

He'll still be off. We are testing team's resolve right now... we don't need to blink just yet.

Punch has shown that he can be useful at Premiership level, that will appeal to the likes of QPR, Swansea... and even Newcastle (Pardew connection.)

He will be off by the end of the transfer window, for cash.

QPR don't have £1m to spend though, believe it or not. They've spent their budget on the agreed fee with Blackpool for DJ Campbell.

Maybe not. But better to ask for 1 million and get slightly less in cash then start low to begin with.

So the deal is us getting a top class champ player in a position that we are actively looking at filling whilst getting rid of a talented yet temperamental misfit?

I can see the Latvian filling in the Killer\Deano role whilst Fonte takes the Claus role.

I'd bite their hands off.

The only proviso is if we have someone even better lined up.

Is the Tunisian PL standard?

Well stoke have been heavily tracking him, so have Zenit. He played in the champions league last year too, so definitely sounds good.

I don't think 29 is too old for a Championship defender, and I think he signed a contract extention last year. Perhaps it was NA's idea to include Gorkss in the deal when QPR inquired about Puncheon because he thought HCDAJFU.

I wonder if he'd use that terminology though?

"Morning Nigel, I want your man Puncheon and I'm willing to give you £500k and Gorkss in exchange."

"Who's Gorkss?"

"My centre back. Trust me, Aitch Cee Dee A Jay Eff Yoo!"

"Bugger off Neil, that's OUR word."

He was interviewed for QPR player today saying how much he was looking forward to the season and it on tour in Italy currently so it looks like it isnt happening.

He might even be playing tonight.

Seems that we're sticking with our first choice of Jemal.

No need to be so rude or patronising.

I didn't expect anyone to take my post so literally as saying we would make a decision purely based on age. I'm suggesting that at the age of 24, Jemal still has a long career ahead of him, meaning he has potential to improve and become a better player. Gorkss on the other hand is 30 in November and most likely at his peak, with maybe a few years left in him.

Maybe Gorkss is a better player now, I don't know enough about them to make that judgement, but Jemal may grow to be better than Gorkss is now. After all the club is looking to the future, putting a big emphasis on young players and ones who are willing to play in the Championship but good enough to make the transition to the Premiership.

No offence meant old boy

I don't think we need a CB at the moment Fonte and either RJ or Seabourne would be fine and martin will be fine for the 2nd half of the season after a loan spell at a league one or two team, i think are piorty is to sign a winger so cash for him would be better to sign someone incase AOC goes, because if he does Lallana and DR are going to have to stay fit as Holmes can do a job but hes injury prone and not going to offer us anything decent against the top 7/8 teams.

maybe a new striker would be nice as well unless NA has improved Fortes finishing over pre season.

Seaborne isn't fine, Fonte needs a better partner, Seaborne should be used as back up to allow Martin to go out on loan.

Why do we need a winger to replace Oxo if he goes - surely De Ridder will be the perfect man to cover this? And if Oxo stays then we have great options.

The bid has been accepted according to London papers with Gorkss going to Saints.

I'd be more than happy with that. Puncheon wouldn't even get in our first team these days anyway with the wingers we now have at our disposal.

Are you happy?

We should be looking at better players but Warnock does have a habit of bringing the best out of problem cases. Seeing as we only have a 1.3m budget then I suppose we arent going to get much better players for free.

As for Gorkss, we are on our 25 man squad limit when Campbell and a 3rd goalie signs so we have to get rid of players where we are strongest and Gorkss is probably the least suited to the prem because of the lack of pace.

Seems like a good deal for both clubs though getting rid of players where they are strong and bringing in players where they are weak.

Warnock quoted as

“We need a wide player, obviously Wayne Routledge looks like joining Swansea, and we’ve been looking at Jason Puncheon,” Warnock told London24. “He’s someone who has done really well, he’s exactly the sort of player I like, he’s pacy and direct, someone with something to prove, a player with a bit of hunger, we need players like that at QPR this season. He’s a player we’ve been looking at, so now we need to see what happens in the next 10 days or so.”

Anyone else feel he's been looking at another of our wingers? Pacy, direct, hungry??

No way De Ridder would leave so soon after signing. ;)

If you're on about Chambo, there is no way in hell that QPR could afford 10% of what we want for him. Fact.
