QPR make Saints an offer for Puncheon (Player Exchange)

I haven't seen it mentioned but surely a 3 year deal in 2008 puts him out of contract. How do you swap an out of contract player? Excuse me I'm not too well up on this

sort of thing, or did I just not read it correctly?

I think with Centre Backs experience really matters. Looking back at some of our best players in that position we signed John McGrath at 30, Chris Nicholl at 31, Dave Watson at 34 and Kenny Monkou at 29. Also, Claus played his best football for us in his late twenties early thirties. The real mystery is why Warnock wants to get rid, as this is a player who seems to have all the right attributes...

That's my concern too

NO team offers their BEST players as part exchange. and he is QPR's "best" CB if you believe the spiel

"Something is rotten in the state of Demark" on this one IMHO

Gorkss is a player I was advising here for ages (more than 5 years to be precise since his Ventspils times). Excellent defender - tall, powerfull, great header, eye for goal on set-pieces, excellent positioning. Apart from that is well settled in Uk, speaks English very well and enjoying playing British football style. Not the best pace but fantastic tackle force and timing. Take his asap, NA!!!!!!! Would be an excellent business.

PS - In addition to that, I would deeply advise to take Artjoms Rudnevs from Lech. Excellent striker, type of Lambert with faster pace and acceleration.

NOW 5 years OLDER, not necessarily 5 years BETTER

not necessarly, they've just signed Gabbidon and perhaps they're up to their 25 man squad limit.

Whilst it would be nice to part with Puncheon does that actually improve the first team since Puncheon isn't in it? If the signing targets at CB and Striker were cash-dependent so that we had to sell in order to buy, that would be understandable but that doesn't appear to be the case. Hopefully, NC/NA will get the best CB they can, unaffected by wanting to offload Puncheon as that could mean taking less than the best available. As for a striker, do we need one as we have three proven performers plus Doble and Guly? I'm sure Jason's agent will be trying to find him a hole somewhere - lets hope its not too deep.

It just looks like the right deal for the club. The Latvian CB has the right background and pedigree to do well in a position we are seeking to bolster. On the other hand QPR are getting a very classy player who doesn't want to/cannot stay at SFC. It has to happen.....doesn't it?

As QPR signed him for a three-year deal in 2008 it looks like he's out of contract, also he is 30 so maybe a bit leggy for the Prem. Still seems a bit odd that they are willing to let him go for Puncheon of all people, doesn't sound as 'though they're getting a great deal.

not so sure its age thing - 30 isn't old for CB -Rio is 32, Terry 30, Vidic is 30 just into new season. Agree it sounds odd.

I don't think 29 is too old for a Championship defender, and I think he signed a contract extention last year. Perhaps it was NA's idea to include Gorkss in the deal when QPR inquired about Puncheon because he thought HCDAJFU.

I just wonder how Jemal's agent is viewing all this ???

Don't think it will have an effect on the Jamal deal at all. Signings don't just happen on a wimb, just because QPR have a bit part player they want to give us to reduce the fee.

Our signings have been scouted and done over time...clearly Jamal is the guy who we have been after.

Adkins wants to play a certain way ie passing football therefore needs the players to do that.

On the subject of Jamal and his FB page...i find it hard to beleive that someone would go throught the process of replicating his page just for a rumour...definitely looks like he is close to signing...normally work permits take 2-3 business days at least...would of thought we would hear something today

I'd like to think that is the case

He had definitely had his medical prior to Saturday's Triathlon

At that stage, Mr Cortese was waiting to hear IF he wanted to join us

At 24, he is ideal for Saints vision of an early Prem return IMHO

He's waiting on an improved offer from Stoke anyway. Sounds like we are being used.

If I went for a job interview at McDonalds’ and they offer me a job for £5 an hour I would think "that’s great, but can i do better?" If i knew that BK were also recruiting/sniffing around and were potentially offering £7 an hour plus bonus, I would rightfully delay any response to McD's and await details of BK's offer/job.

Does that mean I’m using McD's or being sensible?

No, it simply means tha, financially, you are looking after No 1

The judgement call is HOW LONG you wait .... if you wait TOO long you could end up with no deal at all

I cannot prove it

It comes from a overheard conversation in one of the Exec Suites Saturday afternoon

The person that made the utterance could not be in a much higher position at St Mary's, and I don't mean on the roof

Fair enough, just hadn't seen anything to confirm it anywhere. Thanks.

It was offered to us, it's not like we've gone asking for the deal to be like this. Can imagine it will throw the Jemal deal in the air though.

We enquired about Gorkss earlier in the summer and were told he wasn't available. Since they have signed Gabbidon this has now freed up Gorkss hence why QPR have approached us for Puncheon and thrown KG in as part of it as Bernie is a stingy little fuc*er and wants to spend the bare minimum this summer.

I'll certainly be putting a few quid on QPR getting relegated this season.

puncheon is a good player but simply doesn't want to be on the bus, so get shot of him and move on

I dont get it with Puncheon. Something has happened and he is not part of our plans. But anyone who has seen him playing for the development side have always said how much he encourages his team mates and how proffesional he is. Seems like the perfect attitude to take in that situation and sounds like he is good to have around in that area.

Why that doesnt transform into benifiting the 1st team is a mystery to me.

Got word from my QPR supporting mate (Season ticket holder, goes to every game)

--------------------------------

"Onto Kaspers Gorkss, got to say he's one of our most consistent players. I'm gobsmacked Warnock has offered him in exchange, it seems extremely odd. He had about 6 games last season where he was dreadful, but that little spell aside he was fantastic. I might be wrong, but I'm fairly confident he made more appearances than any other defender. He was runner up in our player of the year in Warnock’s first season in charge, he even took him with the first team to Italy on Monday… All the more odd when he left other centre backs out of the tour. Ramage & ****tu didn’t travel, so if anything I would have thought that either of those two would have been the first out the door?

Gorkss as a player has just one weakness – pace. If he had that he would have been an established Premiership defender a long time ago. It does let him down sometimes, but there are so many great qualities to him. He will throw himself in front of anything, he’s not as mobile but he’s like John Terry in that sense. He is great in the air, chips in with the odd goal too. His distribution is okay, likes to knock it around a bit… and has a fantastic attitude! I actually managed to watch a game at Loftus Road in a box with him, he’s one of the nicest guys you could wish to meet.

If it was anyone else with his ability I would put it down to them falling out with Warnock, but I can’t see it being the case with Gorkss. Like I said though, fantastic professional, top player and would be a huge loss to us.

You would definitely be getting the better deal in my opinion, you take one of our best defenders and give us one of your rejects. I bet Adkins will tear both Warnocks arms off to get this deal completed. I still wouldn’t be surprised to see Balanta form any part of the deal… Saint’s have been watching him for a while and he wont make our 25 man squad."

Were in the process of a takeover, if Mittal gets the club then we will spend massively, if he doesnt then Bernie will be a stingy git.

Ah right, my understanding was that Mittal already had a large shareholding so regardless of whether he was looking to increase his stake or not I would be surprised if it wasn't wanting to stump up money for signings in the interim period?

Not according to reports that have suggested Stoke have pulled out of the race anyway and also they have signed Jonathan Woodgate very recently.

If they've signed Woodgate, then they definitely need someone else. It was quite apparant that every interview " 'appy 'arry "

did last season he kept say what a great player Woodgate was (when what he meant was.. used to be )....

Don't think Spurs had him fit and playable for more than 3 games in a row over the last 2 years.

His injury record made " Sicknote's" look like fitness report.

Is it not the case now that Puncheon knows he's up Shart Creek with Saints and is trying his best behaviour just to see if the door is still ajar ? There's no point in him being (more?) unprofessional and risking getting sacked either - which I'm sure we might have considered at some point. Apparently this is covered by the sporadically used "running the club as a business" clause, so we're not just going to wash our hands and will make sure we get something for him in return.
