Had a bad day today, no winners at all!

Mate is going tomorrow, so had a proper look at the card. Tmw looks a weird one with some very short priced favourite, with form that is difficult to see past, as a result my picks are hardly original!

Anyway:

14:00 REDWOOD the obvious pick having won this last year and racing in a lower class race than last 2 runs. DRUNKEN SAILOR has Course and Distance wins and could go well at a bigger price.

14:35 I can't really see past WESTERN ARISTOCRAT whose run behind Strong Suit at Royal Ascot looks a great piece of form now. QUESTIONING is interesting though (available at 10/1 as I write) for the Buick /Gosden combination.

15:10 As we have been discussing on here, GREEN DESTINY looks to be shoo in. Only worry would be getting caught behind the field like happened at Ascot. Personally I am a massive fan of SAGRAMOR. Have backed him on his last 2 wins in big handicaps (LTO at Royal Ascot was v. impressive) and has slipped in here of a small weight as first reserve. Typically finishes strongly and was e/w value earlier in the week at 10/1, but price has been nibbled at now.

15:45 Cannot see past HARBOUR WATCH.

Last three races are tougher:

16:20 GLEE won at the course and the 2nd won NTO so favouritism looks deserved. Might also chance WEST LEAK HARE, who looks to have a fair rating and has SDS in the saddle.

16:50 - not touching this one, not got a clue!

17:25 Think ALBANY ROSE offers a bit of value here. Won three in a row in week (!) last month, but last run was tougher against older horses. 9/1 with Hills looks decent and offer some ew value.

As ever, good luck to everyone and well done to those of you who had a few winners today!

As Labibs said it is tough to see past the short priced faves but for value terms I think you have to.

2.00 Jukebox Jury - the Johnstone stable think an awful lot of this horse.

2.35 Neebras - has been flying a lot higher than this race and been running with credit, worth taking on Western Aristocrat at his prohibitive price.

3.10 Green Destiny - like the rest of the forum! Riggins could run well at a price.

3.45 Right To Watch e/w - Harbour Watch is very highly rated by hannon but odds on in a 2 yo race... time to look elsewhere. Right To Watch has some decent form in the book and is with a trainer who takes his time with his juveniles. Very hopeful for a place.

Good luck all.

A disaster for me yesterday with zero winners and zero idea :-) Well done to those that did select winners and there was a fair few of you (especially Chris O who tipped a 16/1 shot).

On to today and as many of you have already said, a strange day with some favourites with rock solid form:

2.00

I like Redwood but he is frustrating to follow with a fair few seconds to his name. Mark Johnston hasnt had a brilliant Goodwood so far but I am hoping he will have a better day today, Jukebox Jury looked back to his old self on his reappearance and if adopting the same front running tactics could have these struggling, he won on his racecourse debut here at Goodwood and the trip is no problem.

Selection: Jukebox Jury

Western Aristocrat has by far the best form with his last run, but is little value at his current price, at the top of the weights Tazahum looked progressive until finding 1 mile 2 furlongs too far last time out, his second to Dubawi Gold last season looks good form and he could take a hand here.

Selection: Tazahum

3.10

As has already been said Green Destiny looks to have a great chance, but in such a wide open race he is very little value, I will keep stakes to a minimum but Highland Knight ran a really nice race last time out, if the principals find trouble in running, he may be able to capatalise.

Selection: Highland Knight

3.45

Harbour Watch looks like the winner but nobody ever got rich backing odds on shots so for me the experienced and tough as Teak Bannock with SDS on board and at a bigger price Silverheels for a couple of quid.

Selections:Bannock and Silverheels

4.20

Don't stop believing, it has to be Glee for me, his course form is a definite positive.

4.50

Blimey now it gets difficult, 3 year olds have a good record in this race, so Rimth for me.

Selection: Rimth

5.25

Come on you Redvers !!!!

Selection: Redvers

Good luck all, surely my selections cannot be as poor as yesterdays.

Goodwood 2.00 Redwood seems sure to go well but 5/2-11/4 is short enough. Of the others Jukebox Jury looks a smart performer and may well run into a place at least.

So : Redwood/Jukebox Jury

Goodwood 2.35

Western Aristocrat – He’s been disappointing so far but has worked well in the headgear at home and this could do the trick today.. Hiowever, is another short priced favourite, As an alternative Tazahum has solid form and should be in the mix.

So Western Aristocrat/Tazahun

Goodwood 3.103.10 - Goodwood:The Rectifier./ Mr David./Boom and Bust . Many people will have Green Destiny down as one of their bankers of the meeting. He is well drawn, highly progressive and ahead of the handicapper on official figures. He doesn't lack pace so the drop back to a mile shouldn't pose a problem and it's hard to find many negatives in this winner of four of his six outings to date. Come 3.20 this afternoon his price of around 5/2 may prove to be a steal but, at this moment in time, in a field of this quality and size it looks a bit skinny. Being confident about anything beating him however is not easy so small e/w stakes on a few bigger priced rivals is the preferred option. The Rectifier has been placed in six of his twelve starts, winning twice, but most of those races have been single figure fields where his front running tactics are more suited. He faces a much harder task in a field of 20 but he could be up to the task. . Mr David was good enough to take his place in the Group Two Gimcrack as a Juvenile and he wasn't disgraced, finishing just behind Monsieur Chevalier. He has obviously had his problems since then but a change of stables over the Winter saw him produce much more encourage on his second start for his new yard last time out in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket. He made up some good late headway to finish fourth, suggesting that the step back up to a mile could suit. Having only had the one previous outing over a mile there could be more to come. If there is, he is handicapped to run well, being nine pounds below his initial assessment last September.

I also like the look of Boom and Bust which is another horse around the 18/1 mark

So The Rectfiier/Mr David/ Boom and Bust

Goodwood 3.45

Harbour Watch – He has done nothing wrong so far and owners think awful lot of him, but he still has a lot to prove. If he’s as good as they reckon he is though he should complete the hat-trick today.. However, 5/6 is no price at all, I'm not really convinced by any of the others but Saigon may be open to improvement.

So Harbour Watch/Saigon

Goodwood 4.20 Holy frijolies, how do you find the winner of this ! ? I'm hardly going to try but put up Lord of the Shadows and simply because I must due to the name Poetic Dancer !

So : Lord of the Shadows/Poetic Dancer

Goodwood 4.50 Not in the least any easier than the previous race ! Rhythm Of Light has a tough ask but she’s apparently in good order and wouldn’t be without an e/w chance if things dropped right.

Memory – She seems to have fallen out of love with the game a little, but she has bags of ability. If she decides to race today there’s no doubt she could make her presence felt and is a big price so may be worth the risk.

So: Rhythm of Light/Memory

Goodwood 5.25 On to the last and still no respite, the only good thing is that there are "only" 11 horses to pick from !What looks almost guaranteed is that this race will be run at a searching pace. That will suit a closer like Jamesway if the trailblazers come back to those held up from off the pace. He has been running better than his form figures suggest and, although he is not a horse who finds winning easy, he has performed well against his elders this season and a return to his own age group could see him get his head back in front. The assessor is obviously wary of his ability because he is not showing him much slack. Jamesway does have his quirks and it was a bit concerning to see him not showing much interest last time out. He will need to put that behind him but, at his current price, he looks worth the risk. The stable are yet to get off the mark at this Festival but they have had a number run well and the selection is by far the best chance of two entries today.

Quality Art should appreciate the ground and the trip and looks to have a decent chance. At a slighly bigger price Bold Bidder has had 2 poor runs but has previously showed decent form and wears blinkers today.

So: Jamesway/ Quality Art/Bold Bidder

Good luck all !

Green Destiny was a massive, massive let down. That cost me dearly.

Luckily I made a fair amount of profit earlier in the week, though that horse has just virtually wiped that all out. FFS.

They are animals not machines. You could tell after 2 furlongs he wasn't going well.

Only taking a chance on 2 today:

14:35 Harlestone Times won here twice before, including a win over Beachfire who went on to win well at Royal Ascot. 7/1 with Hills.

15:45 big field, but going to give FATHSTA a chance here, ran well to place last week and bottom weight, 25/1 looks a big price.

Good luck everyone.

2.05.

The likely favourite here is Golden Desert. He has what looks a good draw in 25 against the stands rail but more importantly he has Joseph Henry only 2 stalls away and that guarantees you plenty of pace on this side.

However, Secret Witness is my main fancy here. He loves big field handicaps where he can get tucked away and he has stall 4 so I’m hoping there will be pace over the far side or better still they all come down the middle and he can get plenty of cover.

My other fancy has stall 15 and can race up with the pace. He again has some creditable form in these big handicaps although his form is very in and out. I think this race could be tailormade for Everymanforhimself .Another horse I also like at a biggish price is Dubai Media who was out of her depth last time around.

Selections : Secret Witness/Everymanforhimself/Dubai Media .

2.35

Verdant has been working very well in the headgear at home and if it does the trick today he’d have a good e/w chance. Sabotage doesn't seem to have been given any leeway by the handicapper but might just spring a surprise.

Selection Verdant/Sabotage

3.10

Goodwood 3.10 Midday is In great order and will be very tough to beat today. At a bigger orice Principle Roll has been in great form and should run well. It’s a pity we haven’t got 8 runners as she’d be a good e/w price.

Selections Midday Danger Principle Roll

.

3.45

The Stewards Cup is again full of old favourites I’m going plump for Tiddliwinks. He didn’t do his handicap mark any favours when running 3rd in a Group 3 but his last run is best forgotten as his jockey lost his stirrups. He is capable of winning a Group race and should well. Lots of dangers, in particular Macs Power who ran a cracker from the wrong side at Ascot,. My 2nd selection is going to be Docofthebay. He is due a change of luck in these big field handicaps as he has been running creditably for most of the season although mainly at 7f. However he showed he can cut it over 6f when a staying on 3rd to Pastoral Player at Newmarket. At a very big price I fancy Brave Prospector might get involved.

Selections Tiddliwinks /Docofthebay/Brave Prospector Big Danger Mac's Power

4.20

Nawwaar has improved a lot and the step up in trip should suit. He’s a nice sort and should run a good race today.Mickdaamn has come on a ton for his debut run and a big run is expected on Saturday.

Selections Nawaar/Mickdaamn

4.55

Pretty clueless here but Es Que Love is a horse I like and looks to have a decent ew chance at least. Safari Storm is open to improvement and should go well.

Selection Es Que Love/Safari Storm

5.35

Pretty clueless here as well ! Guest Book is vying for favouritism and if he appreciates the step up in trip looks a lively contender. The consistent Moynahan looks likely to be involved and is my 2nd pick.

Selections: Guest Book/Moynahan

As always the very best of luck !
