A Little Lambert Rumour...?

The9

Recommended Posts

Thought I was doing quite well not getting absolutely hammered on here for posting something that I hoped people might appreciate until page 3.

But "attention-seeking"? It's hardly "Chamberlain's in my garden with his Arsenal contract doing a poo on a Saints shirt" is it?

I posted what was said, including all the detail that was available, and my knowledge of the bloke who mentioned it, apropos of nothing, in relation to a conversation about something else. I doubt he completely made it up, what would be the point, and everything I've related happened. Whether it's true or not only my neighbour knows, but he seemed genuine enough. If I see him today I might ask him what he actually does and how come they got a Saints printing deal, judging by his house he's high enough up to not get ink on his hands.

And much as I'd love to tell you all where I'm moving, it's not near enough Portsmouth for you lot to be worried, though it is a little nearer than Banister Park was.

Wouldn't worry, I think the silent majority will think it's an intriguing rumour. Nothing should surprise anybody in football, I'm certainly not attaching any great weight to the fact that Lambert has signed a new contract recently. Same with Lallana. Money talks ultimately.

I don't know why the usual nobs are having a pop at the rumour, it's perfectly feasible that lambert was pulled from the ad because he's being sold.

There are other reasons why it could have happened though.

Shut up you utter *****. I bet so much money that this silly rumour is yet another piece of bollix

I'm thinking that it's perfectly possible the club could have known Lambert wouldn't be playing on Saturday due to his minor injury and had decided not to risk him a few days before, and therefore didn't want him in the promotional pic for the away kit launch as he wouldn't be on the pitch in the kit.

I don't think it's that likely, but it's probably more likely than to think that we're selling him... Either way, nothing in the original post suggested anything about WHY this might have happened, and even my subsequent post only illustrates that I don't know the bloke much and he seemed genuine.

But don't let that stop people having a pop, because what a forum that people have been complaining about being "boring" needs is people hearing stuff but NOT posting them, purely because they know they'll get hammered for it...

I wouldn't bother justifying yourself. You hear something, post it.

If people want to moan that's up to them.

The9 back tracking faster than an Italian tank here

You obviously thought it was true. Or had a lot of truth in it or why take the time and effort and concious decision to post it. If we all posted rumours we all here this place would be like tribal football

Egg the fact his neighbour said they were to remove anything relating to Lambert is a strange one.

Surely th9's neighbour is breaching confidentiality of his employers work. ayning they have been told to pull this that or the other.

I think his neighbour has somewhat embellished the true facts of what Th9 posted

He didn's suggest it was true - read what he said.

You need to understand the concept of a rumour.

You honestly think it isn't?

We have 3 articles on the Saints Forum, taking up multiple pages.

Ammar Jemal (speculation)

New Striker (speculation)

Looks like Chamberlain's off then (speculation)

It's a forum, what will people discuss in the off-season if they can't talk transfer rumours and any other rumours?

"What pies should we serve?"

"What music should be played?"

"What team would you pick?"

All based on rumours, hearsay and media tittle-tattle. None of which has any significant proof to it.

You see my point, it is all very samey and boring after the first couple of posts. Forums are places for opinions, thoughts and rumours. If you don't like it, bugger off and spend your time mulling over the OS and analysing everything for how "Newsworthy" or how much of a "Debate-a-bility factor" it has.

The9,

I say, you were right to post it, and it was interesting. Some people need to take their blinkers off. Maybe not necessarily for this occasion, but some people do.

If people (including me) want to post such obscure 4th hand rumours then they have to accept and be happy at the ridicule some will give it.

Yes that is right. The9 made such a good OP with such 4th hand information we are all Te better for it

May as well say I heard from my neighbour saints are going to sign Michael Owen. About as much credence in that as to the OP

but you didnt, that is the difference.

Anyone of us would have posted what The9 has, not saying it is true but having a conversation about it on here is what forums are for. Or do we now have to not post anything unless it says it on the OS? People have posted (including myself) stuff that has appeared in various newspapers and other media and how many of those have been true?

Dunno if it's been mentioned on here or what, and it's pretty vague, but here goes...

Basically I was emptying the garage today in prep for a move next week, when our neighbour wanders up and asks how yesterday went at St Mary's. We had a chat about the matches, then moved onto discussing the home kit which he's getting for his son tomorrow and the away kit which he hadn't seen.

He then said that last week his company was printing something for the away kit, and they got a phone call from Saints telling them "to stop everything, and not to feature Lambert in any way". I pointed out that Lambert hadn't played, and we both raised some eyebrows...

I have no idea what he actually does, or whether he meant "his" company or just the company he works for, and I had assumed for a minute that he was on about putting the sponsors on the front of the shirt or something as that's what we were talking about before he mentioned it, but on reflection he was talking about the away kit marketing literature, or maybe the point of sale stuff or something like that.

The home kit ad (launched on Wednesday) features Fonte, Lallana and Lambert; the away one (launched Saturday) only Lallana and Fonte.

Anyway, bit strange for him to have said that AND Lambert to not feature on the weekend or in the advert... :?

Attention seeker alert, somebody lock this thread.

Are you having a pop at our chairman with this racism? I think you need to respect the Italian who saved our club a little more....

I simply cannot believe my rumour was locked and this blatant lie is allowed to carry on.

All part of the SWF agenda slyly against the club.

This rumour has as much credibility as a non credible thing

Don't cry.

We need max clifford to come on here to give the rumour about SRL leaving the club , or being disciplined

why on earth would a member of the neighbourhood watch scheme come out with such a rumour.

PS Rickie if your watching, Your futures at Southampton besides black and white stripes don't suit you.

Im more concerned with NA comments about being in the building what has happened to the bus, rickies a scouser maybe he knicked them? Or maybe the bus has turned into a motor home. Come on Nigel whats going on at the club. Bus or Building?

Delldays

I have heard on the grapevine the navy are about to get rid of another 3 subs, is that you being made redundant or are yougoing to become shore based. I heard it from a former subby who I know quite well , He was puttting in some new plumbing in my house.

So the rumour must be true

If the source of the9 is the same as mine, which it sounds like, then it is a good one. Nothing about Lambert going, more of a disciplinary one, how many times has an injury been disguised as an internal suspension. This happened last season with the player who sorted Puncheon out in training, had a mystery injury for a couple of weeks.

I wouldn't name the source because it would cost them financially if they fell foul of NC's strict code. I expect all will return to normal soon without any media circus and kept as an internal matter.

This is the funniest thread I've seen for months

It's like the X Files - "The Truth is Out There" - but several posters are obviously intent on making a lot of speculative shi****te hit the fan anyway

His back hurts ....a little bit....

End of ...

....FFS!

As Hypo used to observe...if someone posts a negative rumour they typically get slated. But, if someone posts an equally tenuous, yet positive, rumour they typically get a "hmmm, interesting if true, thanks for posting" reply.

It's a funny old game Saint...

The difference is people like Hypo then go on to actually believe the negative rumour and try and use it as a stick to beat the club with. Even when it isn't true.

It is true that negative ones get dealt with differently then positive ones but that is just natural. As a club we are more used to being negative with all the crap that has happened. It is harder for us to accept the good times as we think there will be some implosion sooner or later which will take us back into the bad times. The sad thing is that some people (i don't think the9 is one of them) seem like they will do anything to try and create that implosion. They are only happy when things are going wrong. They want to be able to say they were right all along, it is about point scoring. And thus i wonder if they really are supporters at all because you don't see much support from them.

The reality is if you say something bad about someone you will be treated differently then if you say something positive about them. If you basically lie and make up something that changes peoples perception of someone (or attempt to) then they deserve to be called out on it. And i think this is why people are annoyed because those kinda things have happened a lot over the last couple of years. Stories with no evidence to back them up but yet must be taken as gospel. My mate Dave knew someone at the chippy who said his friend Steve saw Cortese take a **** on the fa cup winning squad photo in the boardroom, Cortese doesn't like legends apparently! Stuff like that, you know it is bull****.

Fair point I suppose, but what's a rumour if it's not something you overhear from someone else loosely based on a set of feasible circumstances ? If I'd said "Lambert's off", which was one conclusion you could have drawn from it, that would be a rumour. But what I actually did was post the detail of the conversation and let people decide for themselves whether it was something or nothing. I think in a few cases I may have given people a bit too much credit for independent thinking though.

What is the ****ing rumour anyway?

I've read the OP a few times and there is no rumour in it at all. Unless the contents of the post itself are just a "rumour". That would be odd though.

I've ascertained a fact - Lambert wasn't used in the away kit publicity. So what's the rumour?

Link to comment

The rumour is that the club, for some undisclosed reason, prevented Lambert's image from appearing in the publicity shots for the away kit.

The rest is speculation based on the premise that the above is true, commentary on the OS article, gratuitous hounding of The9, the rest shaking their heads with resigned disbelief.

That about sum it up?

LOL how has this got to 3 pages!? The guy just signed a new deal and stated he wants to end his career at saints!

The thing is though at no point did the OP say Lambert was leaving, he only said he heard that Lambert's image had been removed from the away kit promotion....
