Saint in Paradise Posted 25 July, 2011 Share Posted 25 July, 2011 I think Bart should be No1 with KD playing in the Cup games to keep his hand in just in case Bart gets injured. .

toofarnorth Posted 25 July, 2011 Share Posted 25 July, 2011 I think the fact that this vote is so close just goes to show that we have two great keepers competing for a starting place which can only be good for the club. Has to be Kelvin for me though.
Minty Posted 25 July, 2011 Share Posted 25 July, 2011 I struggle to understand the extremes of opinion on this subject. With some of our previous keepers I could perhaps understand it more, but I really don't think there is that much between the two in terms of ability, and that Bart has a lot of potential to be our No. 1 for many years to come. At the moment, KD has possession of the shirt and thoroughly deserves it, so it is his to lose. We are lucky to have them both IMHO and have other areas of the team which need improvement or better cover before the 'keepers.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 25 July, 2011 Share Posted 25 July, 2011 I don't know what those who are calling for Bart's selection are basing that preferance on - on the odd occasions we've seen BB play you can count as many poor performances as good ones. Let him have a go in the cup games my all means, but Kelvin will start (and probably finish) the season as our main man again.
Saint Thomas Posted 25 July, 2011 Share Posted 25 July, 2011 Got to be Kelvin for me, Bart makes me nervous every time he makes a save - he just pushes the ball back in front of him instead of trying to get it to the side or anything, that'd cost us a fair few goals over the season. david in sweden Posted 25 July, 2011 Share Posted 25 July, 2011 This is just wrong. Bart has had plenty of dodgy games and his kicking is atrocious. Kelvin's kicking is miles better than Bart's. I watched him in the Man.U cup game and it looked like he had lead in his boots. on a televised game a while back (which one)..he was foolish enough to hang a red scarf high up in the netting behind him, and guess what...the opposition scored and the ball was right in line with the red scarf..not good judgment. Colinjb Posted 25 July, 2011 Share Posted 25 July, 2011 Must admit I am surprised to see Bart get so many votes. Kelvin has his faults but he is by far and away the better keeper of the two, yet Bart is Championship standard, we are very fortunate.

Colinjb Posted 25 July, 2011 Share Posted 25 July, 2011 I don't get it. The scarf was a reference point for the striker. Schoolboy error.
benjii Posted 25 July, 2011 Share Posted 25 July, 2011 If the Memorial game was used as the final selection for 1st Team Goalkeeper, it would have to be Bart. His handling of the ball at close range was impeccable,as was his coming for crosses and distribution. Kelvin was not up to it in those three key areas on Saturday. However, this was only one game and we do not know what has gone on in training or in Switerland. We should do however, after the Yeovil game on Saturday. That is true but you would have to be one almighty retard to select someone based on a 45 minute friendly ahead of someone who has been, by and large, superb for the entire last three seasons. david in sweden Posted 26 July, 2011 Share Posted 26 July, 2011 (edited) I think it's far too early to think of dumping Kelvin- just because someone's taken another look at his birth certificate. It's fairly well accepted that keepers mature much later in their careers and 35 is surely quite normal for a good keeper. I recall former Arsenal keeper Pat Jennings (turning out for N.I. in internationals) when he was past 44. Peter Shilton was still in goal for England in a World Cup when he was 40. More recent names like Kasey Keller and Maik Taylor are much nearer 40 and still playing and not forgetting Edwin van der Sar (who walked away from Fulham in his mid 30's) and then had 5-6 glorious years at Man Utd...the fact that he has now retired is his own choice and not a lack of form). I think Kelvin's form last season was one of the key factor's in our success, and to think of dumping him now is ridiculous. As for Bart as his replacement? ..I'm not totally sold on that idea, either. I know the " romance " of the 18 year old Polish kid comong to the club and standing in goal in a few games was nice, but 4 ..5 years later?...he has still only played a dozen or so games (not HIS fault) but if you are seriously considering him as a possible Premiership standard goalie ? ..I'd like someone with a better track record. TBH. I would think that (former goalie Nigel Adkins) might be thinking the same thing, too. Edited 26 July, 2011 by david in sweden
Barry the Badger Posted 26 July, 2011 Share Posted 26 July, 2011 It never fails to amuse me the hypocrasy of us football fans. We bemoan the lack of loyalty from players whilst at the same time calling for a player who has been very loyal to the club to be dropped at the first sign of a dip in form (as happened a few times with Davis last season). Perhaps players would feel more loyalty towards fans and clubs if they felt that loyalty would be rewarded with something in return.
Petersfield Saint Posted 26 July, 2011 Share Posted 26 July, 2011 I voted Kelvin, just, but people disagreeing with you doesn't mean they know nothing about football. Bart has played well in the Championship before and displaced Kelvin once before. It's hardly crazy that some prefer him. I'm happy with either now but we'll see who starts and how they get on. This; Bart's time will come and hopefully will play in the cup games but Kelvin in the league - for now at least
