FAIL

That stuff is not 'ale'. In fact, I'm not convinced its even from Hampshire, as advertised. More likw a factory mass produced beer if you ask me. Can't see why people actually queue up for that rubbish.

End of the day, it won't tempt me into the ground any earlier.

True, but (at risk of copy/pasting what I said in another thread) on the plus side it tastes a lot better than the other watery sh*te they sell at the ground and it's a full pint...

To be fair any 'ale' that has to be chilled and comes out of a tap rather than a pump is going to suck, but can you really see them installing all of that and luggling kegs between the bars when it runs out? Doesn't really fit with the conveyor belt nature of service so the queues would be even bigger.

If its okay for the OS to fanfare its arrival then its okay to criticise as far as I'm concerned.

They would be better to sell lager on tap and beer by the bottle. Loads of great bottled. Beers about, why fob us off with second rate rubbish. Give the sh1t to these all knowing lager louts, they'll drink any old rubbish.

Someone advising the club needs shafting royally.

Well I would consider myself to know a fair bit about ale, but I don't expect there will ever be decent beer; alcohol's a nice distraction at half-time and/or before the match but it's never a reason to go to football! Personally just plump for the least cr*p option - I've never had anything other than ****-poor beer at any football ground!

In Molson Coors the club's contracted a company that don't really 'do' any ale (bottled or otherwise), so you can say it's sneaky to label it one, but if the first pint was a sting then it's easy to avoid in future...

I liked the Singha

Singha was one of the best lager beers in the world for as long as it was brewed by the Boon Rawd Brewery in Bangkok. Ice cold on the hot streets of Bangkok it was the first beer that really made me appreciate lager. Now it's brewed elsewhere and tastes like a different beer altogether. Very average and without it's character.

Saints Ale was a bit of a let down really, no individuality, just a weak ale and not a lot of flavour.

But why anybody would complain about Singha when we had Carlsberg last year is beyond me...simply crazy. Cracking beer and i was delighted to see it make an appearance.

Beware of week ale it tends to have more than a kick than you think

I was serving real orkney ale last week at the tall ships gigs and some of the punters were worse for wear after a few pints.

Wheter it was Orkney best, island Hopper, Dark Munro, scapa special, orkney IPA St Magnus, Orkney Blast.

Trouble is so off you guys are so used to drinking fizzy beer, You well get used to drinking real ale.

Viking thats a big generalisation there chap... Im 25 and have been drinking real ale for the past 7 years, i work in a pub with 10 ale pumps so my palate is well in order on that front, but im sorry to say Saints Ale will never be a 49er or Summer Lightning. It just doesnt quite make the grade and im positive that is partly is down to its strength.

Probably Hancocks rebrand did it actually come out of a hand pull.

Those kids would think a proper hand pump was a sex aid. The little darlings would'nt hae the combined strength to pull a half litre let balone a full pint. [sAD]

Depends what you class as a 'kid' I guess! I'm only 24 but ale is my first choice at the bar if available. Pulled plenty of pints at proper pumps (nice alliteration) while at uni as I worked in the Student Union pub and there were weekly guest ales.

You should run the bars at sms then. Write to the club, I'll give you a reference. Pulling the perfect pint is like making love to a beautiful woman.

That Sir is an outrage. I did a lap of honour around the garden when I heared THERE WOULD BE GROLSCH.

rats

There was Grolsch on tap in the Dell Bar, where I chose to sample the Saints Ale, seeing as I'm unlikely to go in there again. It was alright though it just reminded me of a lighter Boddington's or Tetley's - it was never going to be anything ale-wise other than slightly thicker than the lager though. Not sure it was just rebranded Worthington's though as that was also on sale.

Can't say I often drink at the ground, there's plenty of time before and time after and I reckon I can cope without needing to get a beer during the 15 minutes in the middle too.

Can someone confirm, for certain, that Saints Ale is simply Worthingtons with a different label?

Not saying it isn't. Not saying it's bad if it is. Just asking.

Generally, the quality of beer on sale at SMS is not something that troubles me much.

The club can only basically sell drinks between 2pm and 3pm and 345pm and 4pm (or evening equivalents) on 25 days a year.

That's a total of "beer being on sale" for about 40 hours a year, compared to a pub which sells beer for about 4,000 hours a year.

Expect the latter to be more focused on quality, value for money etc etc etc etc

We asked a steward on Saturday and he told us it was Worthingtons with our label on it.

Had a pint of the 'ale' tonight - it was acceptable in terms of taste - just. But @ £3.50 I'm afraid to say it is very poor value for money. I can hardly believe there's no lager on tap - only bottles and they're £3.50 too! Weird on one hand and a rip-off on the other if you ask me.

I'm not really disagreeing with those points, but isn't £3.50 for a draught pint about standard for a pub now? Not suggesting that it's exactly the same drinking from a plastic cup on the concourse of course.

Saints Ale = rebranded Worthington tosh, complete fail

Thanks :badger: :badger: .......... did you see what I did there (Badger Badger) ;) for planting the seed for my new cunning plan.

I'm going to photocopy loads of SFC Crest badges and superglue them onto bottles/cans of Old Speckled Hen and London Pride and imagine that i am drinking Saints Ale as I listen to Whispering Dave

Of course the down side is how much of a let down it will be when I next get to SMS and try the real McCoy ;)

Exactly, so they aren't going to go to the effort of employing a proper Cellarmaster to look after the Real Ales, esp as, once broached, an ale will go within a week, quicker if it's a real live one.

Ah the days of broaching a firkin of Theakstons Best (when it first came out) and having the standpipe shoot out spraying beer and hops all over the cellar.

So, I'm afraid, you're going to have to put up with the homogenized, pasteurized, flat crap that doesn't really need any looking after.

And I guess the lager in bottles because then it doesn't start frothing and you don't get so much ullage...
