We have no media department. Well, no head anyway.

He quit / got pushed cos of the shambles he made of todays organisation

He quit. Due to there being a certain person he couldn't work with. Probably due to the interference...

Another yellow shirt that isn't that different from past efforts. Absolutely no motivation to pay £42 for a shirt that looks the same as the last 5 or 6 yellow away shirts. Many of the designs that people put on this forum were far better!!!

I'll be spending £40 on the limited edition Pink Chester shirt. You get the shorts and socks included and a percentage goes to the Cancer unit at the local hospital.

I don't like it much - though there's nothing really wrong with any of the constituent parts other than their utter blandness, the whole "Brazil colours" thing is a concept that was done to death in the early 1990s and shows a complete vacuum of creativity.

In short, it's dull as ditchwater and has been done to death. We're not Brazil and we have our own identity. Yellow socks is more "Saints" (though the kit would still be bland), and yellow and black would have been a much more interesting new twist.

Add to that the prospect of Saints wearing some weird non-matching mix-and-match efforts at some places now (Crystal Palace is usually a good one), not all that impressed really.

Absolutely spot on! Nice to see that there's still people on this forum who do talk sense. ;-)

Spoken like a spoilt brat. Don't buy it then precious, simples!

FWIW I think it looks very good, cool and sophisticated yet simple. Good job Umbro.

Why is that spoken like a spoilt brat??? He's spot on with everything he says and judging by his comments he won't be buying the shirt, so he doesn't need you telling him not to.

"Say Y-ellow to the new Away Kit!"

Really is like watching Brazil...

..... at a game behind closed doors.

scaled.php?tn=0&server=734&filename=y2xcs.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=640

Thoughts?

Really should have been an absolute cheapo to get to. Hopefully NC will see the light and make this so next year. A full ground at a fiver for adults and zero for kids maximises the potential that the kids will be Saints fans as we head towards the Prem rather than the big guns at the top. Marketing doesn't seem to be the clubs strong point. However if they'd like a forward thinking, wide ranging, ideas man - I'd gladly throw my hat in the ring

I'll buy it, probably like this year when they're desperate to shift them in April. Or maybe someone will buy me one for Xmas or something.

As for "spoilt brat", errrr, grow up ? It's a valid and well thought out criticism, just because you don't like it doesn't make it wrong.

He wasn't really speaking like a spoilt brat, he just doesn't like the shirt much! I think it's alright. Pretty boring, nothing out of the ordinary, certainly won't be buying it.

Obviously wern't around in 76! But do think the socks should be yellow

Yep I was around in 76. I cannot believe you are comparing to the 76 kit to be honest. It has bugger all to do with the colour but just the truly awful design.

I prefer the away kit to the home kit, I was a big lover of the sash and as happy as I am to be back in stripes, that home kit just doesn't grab me. This kit is fairly simple, although I do like a collar on a replica shirt. It's smarter.

Prior to the KO in the Second match they practiced in a 'Battleship Grey' which TBH was awaful. However, when they streamed down the Tunnel in the Yellow and Blue and into the sunlight almost everyone around us were 'in favour'. Personally I like it. What a change from the dour 'Referee Black!'

Not over enamoured with the selection of the away kit, have been saying for some time yellow & black would be a more traditional kit, and have preferred the navy/yellow combination rather than yet another yellow, shirts, blue shorts effort.

Having gone that route we make ourselves look rather feeble, trying to copy Brazil's kit. Think both Palace and even the skates may have done that one, and made laughing stocks of themselves out of it.

We Gave Football to Brazil it's only fair thry give us there strip in return :)

There is of course that to consider.

I was there in 76,the yellow blue fashion reached us in 74 I think. Yes,liked the kit then, but we have done it to death since.

it should be a rule that our second kit is always yellow and blue, and the third kit can be any old thing.

Amber (or yellow) and black should be our away kit.

In short, this is unimaginative, and better designs have been put forward on here.

Assume this to be a one year design by the way.

I agree with most of this but surprisingly do actually quite like the new kit. Maybe the plainness of it all?

Still maybe next year? The long overdue return of Hampshire's colours for the one team in Hampshire!

Almost entirely off-topic (well, the talk of third kits reminded me actually), but does anybody remember our third from around 1995-6? It was a sort of creamy/ecru and blue effort but I'm pretty damn sure it was never used in a match. Been trying to find an image or photo of it for a while.

Hate it, I've no idea why there is this misconception that the yellow and blue is so lucky, although I've not got figures I reckon that other than the 76 cup win I think it's been monumentally unlucky. Much prefer darker strips acca Keegan era and last season.

What are our traditional away colours? I assumed it was yellow.

Amber and black during the 1950's and 60's. Yellow and blue was introduced in 1974 as it was fashionable in the early 1970's (previously worn by Chelsea,Everton and worst of all ManU.)

Who actually buys socks though, not many i would guess, bit weird for grown men to buy saints replica socks.

I buy kit for training, including socks - got a load of Umbro stuff in red/black/white from last season but bu66ered if I'll pay £10 a pair at time of release ! I think the point with the socks is not that anyone wants to get the whole thing to wear up the park but that not only do the white socks not go with the rest of the kit (and I really hope the sock logos are blue or it REALLY doesn't go), but they are the difference between the usual Saints away and the rubbish wannabe Brazil lameness we've inexplicably gone for.

Yellow kits are sales death anyway, as I suspect they already know. Certainly it was well known the last time we had one, which is why they went for an all yellow change, and a limited edition one the time before. Keep the shirt the same but mix up the stuff around it to try and make it look fresh.

West Ham had an ecru and claret Pony shirt without the stripes down the sleeve, not sure that was the same season though, I'll have a look.

96/97 for West Ham, and it was all Ecru with navy collar and side panels.

You're right, the Saints one was the same season.

There are slight differences in badge/logo placement and the shape of the side panels and collar, but I'd never noticed they were so similar before.

Wow, that white and turquoise one is a blast from the past. Remember picking that and its shorts/socks up dirt cheap at the end of one season from JJB in Basingstoke. Got the goalie top from the same era at the same time - the first and only of those I've owned:

Can't have cost more than £30 for the lot.

Realised yesterday that this year's home shirt is my tenth (first was the one used 1995-7). Have only sporadically had the away ones though, when they were top-notch or reduced. It's a shame that you can only buy our apparel from two physical shops these days, it used to be fun hunting out bargains or finding long-abandoned stock.

  • 1 month later...

Received the away shirt today as an early birthday gift and notice that the badge appears to be at a wonky angle. Anyone else noticed this or heard anyone else complain of this?? Might take it back tomorrow and check against others in the shop. Surely a whole batch at least would be the same...

The main problem I've noticed with them is that the Umbro "Tailored By" label on the inside is stitched through to the back, and as the two shoulder pieces are also stitched together in the middle of the back of the shoulders you can see that the Umbro label is usually stitched on wonky through the back of the shirt. I went through about 5 of them to find one where the centre seam dissected the label stitching evenly, OCD Monkey that I am...

Haven't noticed any issue with the Saints badge, but I should think there's no consistency from one to the next.
