...for the Leeds game. He's bang in form at the moment, carrying on where he left off last season. When fit he's a class act. Three goals in three halves so far in pre-season.

It's good to see so much competition for places throughout the squad, we seem to be able to put out two decent teams.

Agreed, thought he was our best player at the end of last season, not at the games today, but saw both matches in Switzerland and he was excellent in those. I'm expecting our first choice attack to be him and Lambert.

I wouldn't be disappointed with him starting at all - he's clearly a class player. I wouldn't get carried away with scoring goals in pre season friendlies though - they're so far removed from a competitive game that it's difficult to judge form. As much as I like DC and Barney I'd still like to get another striker with pace in but I guess every club will be saying the same.

I'd start with Barnard and Lambert and bring Connolly off the bench. As good as DC has been pre-season, Barnard is a top player and vastly underrated in terms of our success last season. To me leaving Barnard out would be like leaving Lallana out. He makes us tick. Having said that, DC would be a great sub to bring on against Leeds.

You are of course entitled to your opinion, but I really don't think Barnard makes us "tick", neither do I think he's anywhere near as good a player as Connolly. Don't get me wrong, I like Barnard, happy he has signed a new contract, but he doesn't have the footballing brain of a Lallana, Connolly or Lambert.

Agree. I love Barnard's desire and enthusiasm but he benefits greatly playing along side Lambert. He's all about getting a shot away and he never gets his head up and looks for a better option.

Agreed ! start off with Connolly... and have Barnard on the bench for the first hour.

Keep going until you see how it works for 5 games.

I don't think either would care if they played 45 mins. each and both got a goal.

The other factor to consider is Barnard's " unfinished issues with the Judiciary" - he still has to go to court again, I think.

Things like this must weigh on his mind, and although we (naturally) have sympathy for him, rather like the Dave Jones situation

(managing a struggling Prem. side with a court case hanging over you).... is not the best ground for a highly-focused work life.

--in this case a front line striker who needs to score every match.

If Connolly is the in-form player PLAY HIM.. every game you can..and if he stays fit and keeps scoring ..fine !

Don't force him to play " 96 mins. every game," but bring Barnard off the bench after an hour and let him prove his form and get the odd goal or so.

That way you get the best out of both players with the best "result". Connolly needs games and Barnard doesn't need the "extra " stress.

I agree that DC is a terrific player, but there is the injury issue. If only we were managed by someone with extensive physio experience.........oh, hang on ;)

Cant see LB being unduly concerned by his court stuff while he's on the pitch, tbh. My guess is that if he's available and we havent signed another striker, (which could yet happen,) he will start with RL, and DC on the bench.
