Sheaf Saint Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 It occurs to me that her tragic early death is what the media wanted all along, and that is why they gave her so much attention when nobody else really gave a damn. She was a wonderfully talented singer/songwriter, I will admit, but was she really worthy of the amount of press attention that she received? I think not. All the tabloid media saw was a train-wreck about to happen, and they wanted to be there at the moment of impact so they could present their own world exclusive. Gingeletiss's point (about the disproportionate amount of press coverage her untimely demise has generated in comparison to the deaths of British soldiers killed on active duty, ostensibly defending our nation from the vastly over-exaggerated threat of terrorism) is a salient one IMO. The Mirror have run with the Winehouse story on their front page for the last four days in succession, and The Sun even had an 8-page commemorative pullout section about her the other day for pity's sake. Why should the death of a singer, talented or otherwise, be the focus of such huge front-page headlines when the story of a soldier KIA is barely even mentioned any more?
Thedelldays Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 Because Bexy, as a nation, we lap it all up and do little about it
ericofarabia Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 I agree with the sentiment of your post, but nevertheless could she f**king sing or could she f**king sing... Not on the night I unfortunately stumped up 50 quid each for me and Mrs EoA to see her in Dubai earlier this year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RKUAx5_aHE

Sheaf Saint Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 Because Bexy, as a nation, we lap it all up and do little about it It's a very sad state of affairs isn't it.
Sheaf Saint Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 the thread is about amy winehouse dieing why link her death with our brave britsh soldiers i don,t know. Because it highlights the disparity in our British culture where fame and excess is celebrated and lauded upon by the press, whilst far more important issues are largely ignored.
Thedelldays Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 It's a very sad state of affairs isn't it. What are also terrible front page stories... Things like will Cheryl cole host the US Xfactor, or who Ashley cole is ****ging or Coleen Rooney kicking off in a night club at the whore her husband was ****ging (brave Coleen stuck with her man though) It just garbage isn't it As for winehouse. Could not give a Fuk. She stopped being good years ago and became nothing more than a thing with skin.

Thedelldays Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 What is funny though. Is the young fans leaving bottles of booze and ciggys at her shrine. May as well pop up there and leave some spare needles too. lol

Special K Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 No, he said Hendrix was 'pathetic'. So clearly offended. I think you're more offended he called Hendrix a pathetic role model. Generally, I think Bexy makes a good point which sort of brings the discussion back to the threads about the Screws and the other red tops.

Generally, I think Bexy makes a good point which sort of brings the discussion back to the threads about the Screws and the other red tops. Not offended, just curious how Hendrix gets to be 'pathetic'. Why exactly is Hendrix 'pathetic' as a 'role model" in the manner of his life or death? These kinds of offhand dismissals are no different in character to the tabloid mentality that drags people across the front pages when they die, speculating about the manner of their death and glorying in the fake-moral indignation of it all.

locksheathsaint101 Posted 27 July, 2011 Posted 27 July, 2011 On the BBC news the other day the reporter said there was a 'fantastic' photo of the car bomb that had exploded in Oslo. I wondered what was so fantastic about it.
