how do you even know he sees what he said as a mistake ?

I didn't say he did.

he wants to leave so it's not a mistake on his part.

Because going to the press won't make a jot of difference to whether Cortese accepts a deal or not. All it "seems" to have done is make him lose two weeks wages for breeching the terms of his contract.

What a stupid thing to write. The bit about brain not fully developed.

Why exactly?

There have been a huge number of medical studies about how teenage brains deal with decision making differently to fully grown adults. Thus to criticise a child's decision by the same criteria as you would for an adult is a mistake.

Don't subscribe to the view that OxO made a childish mistake - he knew exactly what he was doing. However, he is our player still in the red'n'white and it will be a complete disgrace if some mongs decide to be 'the big I am' and boo him.

I do wonder whether at 17 he has seen too much limelight - perhaps de Ridder has been brought in to allow Adkins the opportunity to drop OxO back into the shadows a bit? Personally I don't think he's worth the £10-£12m being bandied about, so if Arsenal want to take him on our terms then bite their arm off.

Dont agree with booing him, but also dont agree with Cheering him either he showed a lack of respect to the club and us fans by coming out with what he said, there are ways and means of going about things and running to the press isnt one!

Dont boo and Dont Cheer either!!

He is 17 years old which makes him a child. Even if he was 18/19/20/21 you should still give him leeway. We all made mistakes at that age, decision making part of his brain not fully developed and he has been poorly advised by people he trusts.

But a few weeks ago you and others were saying he is so much better than Walcott, partly due to his great decision making. Which one is it??

He's 17 FFS. Bet we all did some ill-advised things at that age.

I reckon he'll still be at the club for a while so let's get the best out of each other.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment of your post above...IF Alex wants to play in the "big boys " league he has to learn that you can't go about giving casual interviews with the press - and especially saying ....you want to leave the club.

He is not a private person in his free time, he is still an employee of the club, who have the right to OK his interviews when it affects his employment.- which I'm sure they did not .

So ..smile Alex, get over it and move on. ..and learn the lesson.

(the " un-professional" way to do it ..is to get your agent to make an " unofficial " statement to the media. The message is the same.

Only saw the Bremen game but I thought he was good, chased back and had their defenders chasing shadows at times. Always thought we should accept a good offer for him but with the chances he could create this season I hope he sticks around

...does that go for teenage murderers, too ?

should THEY not have to accept their responsibilities..?

saying we understand why ..(something happens)...is an intelligent response..suggesting we use it an an excuse ..is not !

How did he get on today?

Usual Oxo really, dangerous and a class above at times. Looked committed and certainly didn't appearing to be 'protecting' himself - got clattered a couple of times when he could've backed out.

agree. He looked like a different league of player. Would've been very interesting to see how he would've gotten on against Bilbao

Some people seem to think it's acceptable for a player to come out to the press and say he wants to leave. Some people are making excuses that he's been badly advised, been pushed into it by his dad, his agent etc. Everyone is going on about what a lovely, intellegent, level headed lad he is.

Dont fool yourself, he knew what he was doing. He knew he was risking upsetting the club, management and fans. It is not on for any player to mug off the club and fans that pay their wages like that, regardless of their age.

I wont boo him, i dont boo our own players, it's pathetic. But f*ck Alex Chamberlain, f*ck Mark Chamberlain. He obviously wants to leave so f*ck him. SFC is bigger than one player, lets go and get players that do want to be here. If he wants to go let him and his ego f*ck off and try and make it where so many others have failed.

I know some of you think singing his name and cheering him will change his mind. He'll stand there and think "they love me here, sod it, i'll stay" No amount of clapping or singing his name if going to make him stay. He obviously thinks he is too good for us now. I for one dont want anyone at this club that thinks that way.

Well put indeed............Get rid for 10m up front and be done with it...........unless of course he's not as good as he thinks he is, in which case no one will pay the price ..........What then AC? I'll look forward to your comment in the press on this as this seems to be your preffered method of communication.............

A child? He is big enough to come out and mug you off in the press he's big enough to deal with the consequences. He knew what he was doing, dont delude yourself. He said all the right things, SFC is a great club, the fans are great but now it's time, i'm good enough etc etc. That was a well thought out, manipulative statement.

From his dad/agent, I'd suspect. I doubt he himself is clever enough to tread that fine line.

I wouldn't boo him just as I wouldn't especially cheer him expecting it would make him want to stay - it wouldn't. However, I can see that booing him could well make him think "F*** it, these fans don't deserve me, I definitely want away now..."
